This gutenberg issue github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/5667 is just amazing. After a year of development the team starts to actually think about things that should have been thought about before the first line of code was written.

Your guess is as good as mine as to when they will actually notify the community about such a breaking BC change. (not that I think that the option should be there at all, not if wordpress want to be a CMS and not a frontpage clone)
