@JackJohansson, no, but there is always a but.
if you host on linode or digitalocean you might want to migrate to another server there for whatever reason it is is much more stable if you use their DNS servers for that.

@MarkKaplun It's a dedicated server at a private datacenter. I was thinking about using a master domain as the DNS, and then using it to set the name server on the other domains.

Now you describe a more complex setting ;) If you want to basically have a name server for the other domains/subdomains hosted on other server than yes, but better make two of them.
But this is something I have never done before so don't trust me

Configuring Bind9 is time consuming and very boring when you don't have a control panel, so I was trying to skip that part :P but since the client owns the server machine and its ip is less likely to change, I guess it's safe to just forward the domain to the ip and handle the rest via vhost.
