Good morning everyone :)
Happy new year :)

1 hour later…

I'm having problems with move_uploaded_files on a windows server ...
the code works flawlessly on linux
move_uploaded_file(): Unable to move 'C:\Windows\Temp\php2532.tmp' to

@R1ddler it is usually a permission problem. double check that the web server can write to your uploads directory

1:51 PM
It can, I read somewhere that I should change the temp folder to be in the same doc root as the site
but I tried doing that in php.ini and it doesn't change

2:16 PM
that sounds like BS. The temp directory is a system wide one and should not be bound to one specific site

Interesting. I thought widgets / everything not posts run outside of the loop.

How do you avoid this overall?

6:22 PM
From reading the comments it sounds like you can avoid it by passing a known post ID. Maybe get_option( 'page_on_front' ) or page_for_posts
During the sideload, in most cases, the post ID doens't matter as much as just getting it into WordPress.

So, I am looking at this answer: https://stackoverflow.com/a/23410472/6784817

I am just wondering, does this apply to the Twenty Seventeen theme? Because I tired it and it seems to have removed all of the gallery images.

@WalidMujahid it's a generic answer, we'd have to load up the twenty seventeen theme and test it there to check, but you might as well do that yourself
just keep in mind that 'removed all of the gallery images' isn't very descriptive, e.g. I can't tell if it breaks the images, or if it shows an empty gallery, or if the images are there but don't show visually

@TomJNowell "I tired it and it seems to have removed all of the gallery images.". I had put in the functions.php and the images disappear from where they are inserted in the pages

so it looks like you didn't finish debugging
you should inspect the locations where the galleries were supposed to be in the browsers dev tools
else how do you know which issue it is

I see
I will do that then

it could be that all the gallery images are there, and loading, but because the markup is different they don't show
or, no images are shown at all, and they make no appearance in the gallery markup
or they're there, but the markup is mangled and broken
they might be mentioned in the error console too

I see. I did not know to consider those possibilities.
Thank you

browser dev tools are your best friend :)
