Good morning everyone :)
I believe I have found a solution to my problem

So... thoughts on Gutenberg?

Everyone seems to be talking about it here..
Don't know much about it to comment tho
Would it be better to use a new user meta or use wp__users table for another user attribute that I would like to add. It will also appear as a field in user registration
What is advised?

Probably usermeta

Yeah I went with that
gonna use select2 for the first time

It's pretty neat

I found this could be useful for what I need ^
Thanks for introducing me to it
I've seen it before, but didn't know its name
I need exactly that from the link
allows you to select more than one thing from the select

@ChristineCooper I don't hate it but I also am not used to it yet. It'll take some growing. I am excited about all the things I'll eventually be able to build into it though so that's something.

and that's exactly what i need as the the custom meta will be an array

4:04 PM
how old is select2?

ancient

fair

Can't seem to get select2 work.. I need a multiple select but I'm only getting a normal one
using this jQuery(document).ready(function(){
jQuery('.js-example-basic-multiple').select2();
});
then in the functions.php I have this

@R1ddler On your select HTML you need multiple="multiple". Also make sure your name attribute is an array -> states[] so it will submit multiple. See Select2(pillboxes)

Yes I do have multiple = "multiple"
I don't see any errors in console
I made the changes from the link you sent me but still getting normal select
This site appears to use a scroll-linked positioning effect. This may not work well with asynchronous panning; see developer.mozilla.org/docs/Mozilla/Performance/… for further details and to join the discussion on related tools and features!

Maybe it's because you're missing the name attribute? Other than that I don't see an issue.
Maybe break your select2 out into a more simplified file, like a JSFiddle or something similar

I did add the name attribute
<select class="js-example-basic-multiple" multiple="multiple" id="docpageaccess" name="docpageaccess[]">

This all looks correct to me, maybe break your issue down into smaller pieces by removing it from your system and trying it in a plain ole' HTML file

One question about escaping data here... I usually use _e('string') and __('string') to output strings in the templates. But I've been thinking about using esc_html_e('string') instead, in case a user uses PoEdit and adds HTML to the text. Do I have to worry about that?

Clorith (core contributor) recently stressed using the esc_html ones over __ recently so I've switched over to them.

Good one. I'm thinking about moving to these too. Looks like I've been taking these stuff lightly.
