Welcome to Stack Exchange Podcast #51, with special guest Jeff Atwood and the usual suspects Joel Spolsky, David Fullerton, and Jay Hanlon. Today’s show was brought to you by Pan-American World Airways!

We kick off the discussion with a topic not on the agenda… which is reminiscing about who used to prepare the agenda on the old Joel & Jeff podcasts.

Site Milestones! Spaaaace is now in public beta, so you should check it out. We also closed the India proposal, after much discussion about the possibilities for location-based sites. …

@s_ha_dum Congratulations on 20k :)
Every 2nd question has (or needs) one comment: "Please show us your code and/or what you've tried so far." ... sigh

it's so nice how WP implements stylsheet queue... then doesn't use freaking queue for its own color scheme stylesheet

yep :)

3:43 PM
I signed up for doing LESS proof of concept for color stylsheets. clearly I wasn't in right state of mind and responsible for my acitons.

He! Sorry, but that was really stupid. :)

indeed
on other hand... do you want to end up with SASS?

Sidenote: As we already got login scripts hook, why not first separate that crap out and do proof of concept for the login styles? Much smaller and can be done from start to finish.

solve your problem yourself :P

And I don't really care if it's LESS or SASS. Just hope that WP will have both, so no projects gets pulled down because wp is the freaking 18% of se internetz!
@Rarst not my problem anymore. several updates later I decided to watch the ship sinking.
Just saying that it would make things much easier because of the smaller scale.

4:03 PM
I have it done pretty much, just need some LESSy thing to add

4:58 PM
that part of day when your code's license is screwed by GPL

5:13 PM
@Rarst ?

Apache License 2.0 is not compatible with GPLv2, etc, etc

muhaha

@Rarst Isn't it GPL v2 and later?

1 hour later…
6:39 PM
@kaiser GPLv2 or later -> use under GPLv3 (it's compatible with Apache 2)

@kaiser it what? the point (this time) is nothing Apache License is not making it into core ever

6:57 PM
whm's default username is root... can't change it ..seriously....

(estimated date only, no source on Meta) Links are now being parsed when flagging as Other and writing custom text. Supported link format is the usual markdown [link text](URL).

SE network updates: Closing a question will no longer incur an automatic Community downvote.

@Howdy_McGee user basis
@adii Exactly :) I will not be opting out. Perfectly happy to pay what it’s worth. @jeffr0 @nathanrice
And here is my respect for a person gone.

9:12 PM
@kaiser or maybe his profit margins make change insignificant, which would be like very respectable :)

The note I left between the lines was assigned to "happy to pay what it's worth"... which would be nothing. Or less.
“There’s is no such thing as bad publicity.”

@kaiser I think his firm does plenty woocommerce work

What the heck is "woocommerce work"?

client projects, using it

So there's "Genesis work" and "Hybrid work" and "Advanced Custom Fields work"? o_O

9:26 PM
...yes?

Man! Got a job offer today. By the list of plugins involved it would need two paragraphs before getting the chance to append "work" to it.

then don't

I really prefer just summoning all the jobs that rely on fiddling with some paid "premium" plugin under the name of "clientfucktcha job".

@kaiser No there really is, like when you renegade on your contract (kind of illegal...) :)
Its only true for small non-established brands.

Which are better named after their Polish owners, so no one can exactly remember your name :)

@kaiser hehe. But apparently if you're not well known bad publicity makes your brand known to a degree which compensates for the fact that it was for bad reasons. If you're well known already then the bad part spreads like wildfire.
I'd be interested to see what happens to their sales, though they'd never reveal anything.

Amazon

@kaiser ?

@StephenHarris guess nothing.
@StephenHarris if you're well known and have shady tactics: Amazon.

11:46 PM
@kaiser Using shady tactics doesn't necessarily mean bad publicity. A lot of people don't know / care

That's somehow true. And if not, Adii is trying to make it true. He even published a post where he promotes promoting himself for promoting his ebook.
A summary of all the guest posts I wrote last week (about branding and to support the book): http://buff.ly/13zKzBA
@StephenHarris that's it
But if you got through woo stuff on Twitter, it gets quite clear why they did a step back and rethought how they should handle it:
@scotty_webb why don’t you just keep quiet and go on with your life? surely that’s a whole lot more productive?

@kaiser Yeah that kind of meta-publicity confuses me. Does that actually work? Thomas Griffin even wrote some very open articles about how he'd been focussing on the wrong thing: coding not marketing. No doubt he's right, but doesn't admitting that kind of negate the marketing. I thought it wasn't meant to be subtle enough so you didn't think you were being manipulated...
or perhaps its a bit like placebo. It even works when you're told about it.

I wonder if adii will be at wordcamp europe

Guess that it depends on the situation. Get the wrong media coverage from the boulevard newspaper and you're fucked up. Get the best praises from New York Times and no one cares.
@TomJNowell guess he's rethinking that decision at the moment :)
But when it comes to Adii, then you quickly understand that self reflection isn't part of the game. Just look at his self description on Woo Team page:
> (...) Adii is (at the moment) a one-hit wonder with his role as co-founder of WooThemes.
