Told you being friendly isn't that hard. To get to your problem: The point is that this seems to be for Buddypress. And Buddypress seems to use another sort of loop and that's a possible problem why it's not working. You have to dig into this one, tag it with buddypress and provide much more detail. As you know, we ain't got a lot of Buddypress devs around here.
As you haven't offered the details on what you're after, I'll try to grab them all very briefly.

@Wyck: I'm reading that post to core... but I don't understand all of it. Is the issue still unresolved? It seems some people have been using a patch that works fine (until you upgrade WP at least, where you have to find/load new patch)
@ypercube I don't know the specifics, but the major changes to improving the query were applied to patch 3.4

@Rarst Mostly as a deterrent. Removing links from the posts is useful. Stack gets crawled very quickly. You don't want their links being picked up as BLs nor do you want it to aid in their spam links being indexed quickly. Known tactic. So I do it as a deterrent until a mod comes along to clean up. I know its only a matter of minutes but I prefer to clean the thread bcoz others read it too and it looks shit. I care about that...

@Rarst Its not a waste of my time because I flag it anyway, its two seconds to edit the contents. Whether it causes a problem with the system - well maybe we need to find out right? I do it because I don't tolerate shit clogging up answers and its outright confusing to people (sometimes) when reading a thread. Sure most people recognize spam. Anyway if we can confirm it causes some glitch in the system.. cool. I'll still remove the links. Spammers don't like that. Tough luck.
@Rarst: They are similar, yes. I don't mind if mine is closed as duplicate. But the answers are opposite. And the core ticket discussion mentions a patch to keep the functionality with better efficiency.
lol, off topic mess in lessphp issue tracker on how it is stupid to use PHP for LESS and why people just don't use Node.js. Of course, I will immediately go install node.js so that my CSS works! :)
@Rarst My cap script ignores the less file and deploys the css - so no processing of the less file occurs on the server. But yup if you don't want to do that, then fine

@anu It's true I ask a lot of questions and have very little to contribute to people like you because my skills are way behind. But for the record I am working only on one project that is mine and it's not for profit.

I don't get why people get upset about people who ask questions. Like isn't that what this is for. Seems like some get really good at something and then forget once they didn't know what they we're doing.

Only asking because I have a few projects that each make use of the users table quite extensively and I was thinking that I want to simplify the way I work with users/user_meta since I am writing a lot of the same functions. @Rarst I'm doing the same as @userabuser . Often Spam stays for me visible and red (deleted), so I don't care. It's so annoying, that any edit is fine for me.

Yep, this is nasty issue that to have full WordPress environment you need to spend considerable time loading it.
I've needed much better performance (for very dynamic incremental search feature) for work and what I went with is:
Custom file as Ajax handler.
SHORTINIT constant for limited WP co...
it confuses the heck out of IDE that no longer can analyze what is defined and what is appearing out of thin air - completely compromises checking for defined and unused variables, redefinitions, etc

Stupid question - but does naming a file deprecated.php make it behave... differently...? I'm trying to include a file in 'includes/deprecated.php'. I have it duplicated as 'deprecated2.php'. The latter executes code - the former doesn't.... :/
@StephenHarris you are likely including wrong file, look up PHP include logic. you need to use absolute path or it can go include piece of WP core or whatever that shares a name if you only use name

the problem is teaching it to recognize non-PHP stuff like hooks... for this I need to make sense of how PHP is parsed by its engine and that is not quite trivial for my brains
