iirc the recipe can be anything, as long as over half is corn mash. And, of course, there has to be some way to heat it, and the Irish can tell you how well peat works for heating things.
Yea, I know peat isn't exactly the same thing, but nobody says how the vegetable matter of peat has to be partially decomposed. Horses do a good job at that.
