Speaking of the border: one guy flew more than 5,000 miles just to cross the border from Mexico to the U.S., as he couldn't use the crossing that was right there (cc @Midavalo)

I do lock those questions and answers for comments so people do post the new comments in the chatroom and not on the post, as we can not move those new comments (and usually they are either already in the comments now moved or arguments that follow on up some that are moved.
We end up having to delete comments still posted on the question, or end up with a mess of comments which are rarely adding something to the post.
If you have a comment which is really important to the answer (or question if that is locked) you can ask one of the mods to open up the comments so you can post it. In some cases it can be important. I did not see any comments of that importance in the comments moved to the chatroom but I might have missed an important one.

@gparyani, I see a lot of flown air km/miles which are not really needed. The closed border at the south of the USA is one example. The 'extra leg reduces the overall cost of the flight by a lot' is an other.
And when I talked about the stopped air and see traffic between the UK and the Netherlands someone suggested to fly via the USA, or an other country that was not blocked by COVID 19 rules at the time. Flying halfway around the world because a short flight was not possible. (I did not do it, did not need to make the travel, but would likely not have done it any case.)
