@chx, I did not edit in my answer before as it was not yet upvoted. I happened to be awake at midnight UTC and saw it upvoted just after midnight
But luckily well within the 'edit your answer in' limits.

Are we actually gonna send out any of the merchandise here: travel.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/1061/… ?

user381237
Like the towel or stickers

7:56 AM
@Willeke Naaa I don't think I will participate. I am always on the road for work and the only time I have to answer is at odd hours during which the likelihood of getting upvoted and thus being allowed to stay in the competition seems to be fairly low, according to previous experience.
It's becoming a hassle more than a pleasure for me, unfortunately.

@Daniil, staff sometimes offers. Keep an eye on the Meta site and the featured questions.

8:29 AM
@Daniil Don't get your hopes up. SWAG does not get distributed very often. I have been around the site for nearly 5 years and the only time I got some SWAG is when I got elected as a moderator.
@Willeke However, what I can do, is go after Mark's bountied questions. I might not get the bounty but I can surely make these unanswerable for those competing in the answerathon. evil laughter and fade away in the dark

Q: Should visa questions be tagged with [country] or [city]?

DaniilI came across a question today, about a user asking if Indian citizens need a transit visa for Thailand (Bangkok). The questions revisions can be viewed here. It was tagged with all the necessary visa and citizenship tags. It was also tagged with Thailand and Bangkok. I removed the Bangkok tag,...

user381237
@Willeke what do you think?

user381237
2:44 PM
@JoErNanO I was saving to answer them for another ‘day’ :(

user381237
Nice meta answer by the way, agreed

@Daniil These competitions are FIERCE, mate. :P
I'm the wrench in the process. Mhuwauhawuhawuhawuhaw!

@Daniil, as I am no visa specialist, I will go with @JoErNanO's answer.
I think in many cases the users do not realize which country they find the airport which is their stop over.

3:00 PM
I know I say this approximately every six months. I know I think this at least twice a day. But dammit I do miss @GayotFow
Was looking back on the starred message historic and stumbled upon a few conversations he and I had the past few years.
Nostalgia.

I still regret never having met him, (almost but it did not work out.)

user381237
Who is he? @JoErNanO

And indeed, I do miss him hanging out as well as answering questions.

@Daniil He's a Travel.SE old-timer who passed away a year and a bit ago.
By far the largest expert on UK visas this site, or the entire internet for that matter, has ever seen.

My bad. Fixed it.

Oh. Only just realised he actually passed away, right? Not just digitally... don’t mean to offend anyone

Yeah he was ill. Don't worry you can't offend people by not knowing everything that ever happened since the beginning of time. It's pretty normal, actually. ;)

user381237
Going on six flights in October :D

user381237
Just out of interest, has anyone been on more than six flights in 2 weeks?

@Daniil 44 since the 1st of January.

user381237
3:12 PM
Max in the period of two weeks?

user381237
44 is a lot

This year it's usually two per week. Maybe 4 if I leave for the weekend. But I've done more than 6 in a week. All it takes is a not-so weird combination like MXP-MAD-EZE return. There are even weirder ones for people who like to fly cheap and spend days in airports.

user381237
Yeah :)

6 flights is just going and returning with two stop overs, I have never done it but I am sure a lot of people do that many just to get somewhere.

user381237
For me it’s 2 destinations with one stop over

user381237
3:14 PM
In the first destination

Where to?

user381237
If you look at my recent questions you can probably figure out ;)

user381237
Anyways, LHR-CDG-SVO return

user381237
STN-TLS return

Small airport (say Orkneys) to main UK airport, to main USA airport, to medium Canadian airport to small Canadian airport to lake by one of their water landing planes.

user381237
3:16 PM
And in English:

user381237
London Heathrow - Paris - Moscow return

user381237
London Stansted - Toulouse return

Are you going to Toulouse alone, with family or with school?

user381237
@Willeke sounds cool

user381237
Moscow with parents to visit family (usually go twice a year, went in February) and Toulouse with friends

3:18 PM
I have never done it but it is something Gayot Fow would have done, except he would have started from a small English (Essex or some such) airport to France or Germany, if that sounded fun.

user381237
I’ll be back in an hour. Bye @Willeke @JoErNanO !

Ciao.

See you.
@JoErNanO, are you longing for your busy but not too busy student days?

@Willeke That's true. I remember when he went on his private-jet-hitchiking frenzy and started flying from airports so small they were basically mud landing strips in the middle of nowhere.
@Willeke Oh I was way busier back then.

@JoErNanO but you could mostly plan your own time, now you have to follow what a boss wants.
Having a 40 hours a week job had its disadvantages but I at least have my evenings and the breaks for myself.

3:25 PM
@Willeke Not really. I was my own boss. There's no one stricter than yourself.

Depends on how you are. (Me no strict at all.)

Hi everyone

6:04 PM
Welcome back

user381237
I know it's your post, just wondering

I write with a lot of white in my answers to make reading easier. The edit did take out many of those, for no reason I can see. The actual edits were minor and I intend to clear up those I do see.
(I do not like people editing, certainly when they change the style I have chosen and is well thought out to make it easy to read.) The edit introduced walls of text.

user381237
Ok, thanks for the info. Makes sense

I have redone that edit, only using the real corrections, rejecting where he wanted to change the order I told things and keeping the white I want.

user381237
6:24 PM
@Willeke Have you heard of Charcoal/Smokey (a spam detector bot)?

Of course I have, part of the tradition here.
If the names had been without capital letters I would have been sure an old (internet) friend of mine had made them.

user381237
How about having it post in this room for spam detected on Travel.SE?

I never knew his real life name and I am sure that if he is active on this site it is under a new nick name.

user381237
Should i raise it on meta?

No, not in this room.

user381237
6:27 PM
Why not?

This is to chat, can be used a lot like now, (where the spam messages get lost) or little (where they would overwhelm the chat.)

user381237
For spam detected only on Travel? Or in another room?

Keep an eye on the review lists. I keep an eye on the flags.
Spam hardly ever stays more than minutes on TSE, only when almost no people are around.

user381237
What do you mean by "Keep an eye on the review lists. I keep an eye on the flags."?

Spam that is detected is flagged. Mods see those flags, (others do not.) I keep an eye on the flag messages to catch spam fast.
It is also mentioned in the review lists, I think as low quality posts. So by keeping the low quality review list cleared, you clear spam.

user381237
6:31 PM
Oh ok

Detected spam.

user381237
@Willeke Where?

Detected spam gets into that list, undetected spam is what you find in the new users list.

user381237
Ok

user381237
Have to admit, pretty looking forward to the 10k privilege

Whilst you're on, I'll give you some tag wiki approving to do if you don't mind ;)

I am going to stop, I do feel tired.
See you next time.

user381237
Ok, see you

user381237
Nice chatting to you

New answer day in 12 minutes!
I edited the wiki and reviewed @Willeke 's
Ah i see the PC brigade is all in to downvote the truth again, good job
I love how people insist on the UK and the US not being a pseudo police state... trying growing up in one and then see what's going on there.
