morning

how goes it?
only two new questions, the london question got closed
hmm the rain has arrived
got a friend coming over, having some coffee and arguing about the international supply chain
having trouble getting лютеница in sweden?
08:25
haha, no.. I actually found how to get it here, in Jönköping, no less -- a friend of mine has an uncle who is truck driver and drives to Sweden once every month or so, and even goes all the way to here (there's a large truck stop in the city).. so he can get me anything I want basically for free
these guys often sell illegally alcohol as well -- you probably know that alcohol trade is state monopoly in Sweden
the season of home-made лютеница was a few weeks ago, and now it's ready for transportation, I hear
oh yes of course
it was the first thing i ever ate in bulgaria
did you have the home-made stuff?
no the first people to pick me up hitchhiking last year gave me a jar they bought from a shop
ate some every day with bread until some mould started to grow on top and i had to throw it away )-:
08:40
indeed -- some of these do not contain much preservatives (is this the right word?) like E-whatevers, and usually don't last long after opened. This is twice as valid for the home-made thing -- a week tops

what would be the cheapest ferry from the vicinity of athens to anywhere in turkey?
I guess you need to get the ferry from Piraeus
what's a piraeus and is it cheap to get to? (-:
10:52
Piraeus is a seven-letter city in Greece :)
20 km from Athens, if memory serves
seems there are a lot of ferries going from there, but there are no direct ones to Turkey, as far as I can tell
trying to decide whether to deviate my course from here to tbilisi to go via athens so i can shop for used books
lonely planet says there is no direct ferry between Athens and Istanbul, bar some 22-hour bus ride
looks like Thessaloniki might be a better deal if you want to get to Turkey.. most options would go from there anyway
it doesn't have to be istanbul anywhere i havent been before is cool
yeah but theres only one used bookshop in thessaloniki and i've been there before (-:
is the goal to get there using the shortest possible route, or some (possibly major) deviations are an option?
11:20
the cheapest way is more of a concern

Q: What might be the cheapest ferry connection from near Athens to anywhere in Turkey?

hippietrailSoon I'm heading from Albania to Turkey to Georgia. The obvious way is to go through Thessaloniki which is a great city and I'd like to go back. But I'm considering an alternative plan of going via Athens instead. Now I don't like backtracking and I like being in new places and I like places wi...

deviating back to thessaloniki is not an option for this question but other deviations might be. deviations on the turkish side might be okay depending if i would need further ferries to get from say a turkish island to the mainland
