@Secret Since your dreams are communications from your subconscious, it makes sense that they can resist the dictates of your conscious mind. Many years ago, I was in pursuit of dream lucidity, culminating in a dream within a dream where I was lucid in the inner dream, but mistook the outer dream for reality. Upon waking, I considered that a particularly elegant rejection by my subconscious of my efforts to take over command of my dreamworld.
An alternate method for bringing conscious and subconscious into communion that I've found useful is to continue the plotline of the dream when you wake up. That is to say, sit quietly and imagine what would have happened if the dream had not ended where it did. Journaling your dream, drawing it, or even acting it out can also be useful and powerful techniques.
