Except the stuff I'm working is on is reinforcement learning, and I'm not sure how easy it will be to apply rate-distortion theory to it.

@PhiNotPi 8 bits seems far too small: If I glance at something, and then pull my eyes away, I can see a far better image than 8 bits can encode

I definitely think that it depends on the type of memory being used

visual short-term memory is obviously bigger than 8 bits, but when you are doing logical/ordering short-term memory, I could see that being right

@El'endiaStarman I would definitely use this as a screensaver, especially if it automatically randomized every 20 seconds or so

@NathanMerrill it's measuring how much memory people were using to perform that particular task.
