@El'endiaStarman How can vectors refer to mosquitos in this example?

9:33 AM
@flawr looks like HRE's internal borders
> Traditionally in medicine, a vector is an organism that does not cause disease itself but which spreads infection by conveying pathogens from one host to another. Species of mosquito, for example, serve as vectors for the deadly disease Malaria.

@flawr Oh geez, I can't believe I missed that part of the joke.

A bulbous bow is a protruding bulb at the bow (or front) of a ship just below the waterline. The bulb modifies the way the water flows around the hull, reducing drag and thus increasing speed, range, fuel efficiency, and stability. Large ships with bulbous bows generally have twelve to fifteen percent better fuel efficiency than similar vessels without them. A bulbous bow also increases the buoyancy of the forward part and hence reduces the pitching of the ship to a small degree. Bulbous bows have been found to be most effective when used on vessels that meet the following conditions: the waterline...

so did I :)

I never even thought to wonder about those.

There is a lake where they still use a few steamboats where a (dangerous, and probably not very legal) sport emerged among the local youth, where they try to "surf" on these bow parts. And I wondered what these things actually are for ever since I first saw guys trying to surf these things as a kid.

An anti-shock body (also known as Whitcomb body or Küchemann carrot) is a pod positioned on the leading edge or trailing edge of an aircraft's aerodynamic surfaces to reduce wave drag at transonic speeds (Mach 0.8–1.0). == Wing trailing edge == Most jet airliners have a cruising speed between Mach 0.8 and 0.85. Wave drag can be minimized, for aircraft operating in the transonic regime (Mach 0.8–1.0), by having a cross-sectional area which changes smoothly along the length of the aircraft. This is known as the area rule, and is the operating principle behind the design of anti-shock bodie...
Mildly related concept for aircraft.

TIL that too!
