@Derpy yee

@SimplyBeautifulArt is that thing actually as limiting as players and youtubers say?

3:54 PM
@Derpy it's "limiting" mostly to people that play the game too much lol, it doesn't affect people that just chill so much
Saying it's limiting isn't quite right I feel, the entire game (as of now) is beatable in like a week if you really try

4:13 PM
think that is because the game was just launched - could get better on that problem if the updates add new places and things to do. In a way wouldn't be any worse than a MMORPG that launches with few end game zones - after a while it will catch up.
The idea that I got from the videos though is that the resin system actually limits you from doing content because you need to spend this resource to do stuff.
Play a dungeon? Resin. Improve weapons? Resin. Face a boss? More resin.
In that sense, it seems quite limiting because it means that as soon as you finish the resin you are stuck, unable t

4:27 PM
@Derpy No, it's mostly to get better upgrades to your gear and stuff, all of this can be done without fighting bosses or going through dungeons simply by exploring around, but it's just slower.

4:42 PM
@SimplyBeautifulArt I see, but that still mean that you can't play a dungeon when you want if I understand correctly?

@Derpy For a select few yes. The way most of them work is you can fight the boss or do the dungeon but need resin to pick up the rewards.

@SimplyBeautifulArt wondering. Do you get to see the reward before spending the resin?

@Derpy Yeah the possible drop rewards for everything is shown beforehand to my knowledge.

@SimplyBeautifulArt Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. Possible would mean that boss could drop item A, item B or item C with some random chance. Suppose you want A - are you forced to spend the resin before or after getting to know if the boss actually droped A this time?

@Derpy before, but the thing is the drop pools are very small for each and it's not like there's "rare items" where you have to kill the boss 10 times to have a reasonable chance at getting it... it's more like the boss drops that 9/10 times but you need 10 of them for an upgrade.
I made those numbers up but that's the idea

4:51 PM
@SimplyBeautifulArt well, at least is not like the old Thunderfury from WoW - drop chance under 0.01 if I recall the stories I read.

lol yeah
The "terrible" drop rates are from the gacha system mostly, which is where they make money.

@SimplyBeautifulArt yep , I read about that too.
Weird choice to go gatcha for the type of game they are making.
It's one of the few rare cases where I would even go as far as wondering if the "whale fishing" strategy is actually the more profitable one.
They could easily sell the game and dlc characters packs.

Well gacha was something that they started with before genshin impact was even a thing
It's moreso surprising that the game has really reached out to such a global audience that isn't very familiar with gacha
idk if it's more profitable or not, but I can only imagine they are making a pretty good amount of money so far
Someone said the following about the gacha: "It's a game with gacha attached. Usually you find gacha with a game attached instead."

5:14 PM
@SimplyBeautifulArt are you familiar with the JRPG gaming market on console?
Want to know why it became popular? Most JRPG are somehow lazy on the backgrounds/world.
This one... has an open world that some compared to Zelda. While the gameplay is not Zelda at all, you basically have an open world anime JRPG.
Very few of those.
Only things like Xenoblade come to mind.
Things like the Atelier series... Tales series... have usually nice characters but sometimes are lacking on the actual backgrounds.
And surely you don't get to jump or glide around.
In a way, this game looks like an open world "Secret of Mana"

Yeah sure

I mean, compare with Sword Art Online Alicization. Quite recent, still .... is that thing grass?
I like JRPG, but some are quite lazy.
And mind you, I don't search ultra-high resolution like FF7 remake for example. Just art. Only real competitor to Genshin on that front that I can think of right now is Ni No Kuni, which manages to look like an actual anime starting from the characters to the actual backgrounds. But Genshin still has the "open world" thing.
In a way, it reminded me of the cancelled old MMORPG Peria Chronicles
Would have been nice to see that one actually getting released. They planned to include some sort of ingame editor for creating new items, clothes and so on.
Probably got stuck while thinking how they would then moderate such user made content.

5:34 PM
sure

5:49 PM
oh, was checking for more comments about resin on youtube. Some youtubers seem to have posted videos in the latest few hours about community managers actually replying to some post about resin on the game forum
Pretty standard things like "forwarding to the devs" but it is something I guess.
