I'm going to play devil's advocate just to explore the idea more. I think the logic of "once we've tried it, we'll likely want to keep it" is similarly relevant in the reverse situation of a hypothetical scenario of starting with a threshold of 3, and trying a threshold of 5 to check if it's better or not.
It might feel like a combination of recency bias and something else which I forgot the name of. But the experiment presented was that a executive change in some process in a workplace causes momentary increase in productivity not because that the policy change was useful in itself, but it caused workers to pay more attention to said process in the short term.
That said, I'm not against trying it out if that's what we as a whole think is good.

In macOS, is there an easy way to write furigana over a kanji in the app Pages and other apps?
Ah, just found it. It's in the context menu.
