Hi! This isn't really strictly about Japanese language but I thought perhaps it might be okay to ask in the chat.
I just wanted to ask about how to end/start an era in Japan. 1989 is both Heisei 1 and Showa 64 so I wondered how people born in 1989 decided which one to use. I read in Wikipedia that "1989 corresponds to Shōwa 64 until 7 January".
Does this mean if I was born on January 7, 1989, I'll use Showa 64. But if I was born in January 8, 1989 then I'll use Heisei 1?

Here they mention a girl who was filling a high school application and was confused because there were only showa 63 and heisei 1 options.
According to the article technically that would be showa 64, yes, but many people don't take that seriously and just say "aha, you mean you were born in heisei 1".

I have one question, I talk to this one japanese person who is temporary living in my town
whenever we talk through LINE and I say something like 「こんにちわ」 she replies 「おつかれ」
even though we still have the whole day of work ahead of us, I thought otsukare was mainly after your job was done
maybe I got the wrong idea?
