I just treat them like any other vocabulary.... learn them as I come across them

ではございません is used

です is used.
By symmetry I expected でございます to be used for "is"
Why です instead of でございます as expected from symmetry?
Or if I may ask from the other direction, why ではございません instead of ではありません ?
Also I noticed that it's not only one person. The rest of them also declare "is not" and "is" using ではございません and です.
ではございません ← ではありません ← ではない = だ → です/であります → でございます
That's the symmetry I had in my mind.
