When I'm writing stuff spontaneously, such as lang-8 entries or sending an email in Japanese, as opposed to doing homework, I often try to use grammar constructions and words I'd never used before. That can take a lot of time - a metaphor I'd use is thrashing en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thrashing_(computer_science)

The author of the "boyfriend require" git repository mentions in her twitter profile that she likes 巨人 - "PHPと巨人とラーメンが好きです。" At first I hoped it meant that she liked tall men, because I'm about 1.9 metres, but based on her saying "プロ野球観戦（巨人ファン）" elsewhere, I don't think it's very likely. >_<

Care to elaborate on that metaphor? I have the same "problem" but don't see how it's similar to thrashing.. It would be more like a simple cache miss if you want to do a computer reference.

The problem (when you're writing) is that you try to use something you don't have (knowledge of how to say something) - so you need to go find it first, which takes time, right?

I meant the CPU deals with data and instructions in cache - if it's not there, it needs to fetch it from memory first, which takes time. (so yes, this like all other metaphors fail in some way, here because of the words - I'm more thinking of the acts)

Thrashing is more about throwing stuff out and taking new stuff in and generally spending more time on that process that doing anything useful with the information.

I've been debating whether to continue development on it for a while, maybe at least to fix the dynamic dates/times which are now updated in JS periodically and fix the localization of the notifications in the "Stack Exchange" dropdown which used to be displayed as an orange bar at the top of the screen etc

when it's come up on meta (meta.japanese.stackexchange.com/questions/22), I think the consensus was there's not a hard requirement for questions/answers to be in English, though it's largely been the case so far and the leading answer encourages translating them to a reasonable extent

the stack exchange interface, e.g. badge names for example like "necromancer" and "excavator" etc is fairly complicated with some specialized terms, and it's sometimes hard to know what they mean in English

and I think how to use markdown etc isn't immediately obvious (it's difficult even for some non-technical English users I'd think)

I'm thinking about re-licensing it under the Creative Commons CC0 or something so that anyone can use the translations for that kind of thing (it's currently listed as CC-BY-SA)

@taylor if you install the greasemonkey script there's a toggle in the top right between English/日本語

so it would be possible if it was installed on the site (though I don't think that's likely)

I don't know whether the official Stack Exchange localization system would allow changing between localizations

i applied for part-time and the HR person emailed me telling me i need to bring 3 references

My part time job asked for 3 "references" and I just wrote down the names of some high school friends who still lived in the area
