@sv. Why do you flag old answers when community haven't yet decided on old answers?

@Rickross, BTW, nothing against your answer. It's already reputed & accepted. Hence it's ideal to be targeted. :-)
We were discussing modern works vs ancient works, & that answer was in top of my mind. My perception was that for scriptures, only ancient works is preferred.

From both the mods, now it's clear that the modern works (from modern Acharya-s) is allowed. So it's clear.

sv.
@TheDestroyer I did not flag for deletion, only flagged for banner which makes sense whether there is consensus or not. What you choose to do with my flags is up to you. BTW, officially, what is an "old" answer here? Anything in 2015 is new? Anything in 2014 is old?

@sv. It's better if we handle them after deciding. Even we didn't handle your Bhishma's flag as we don't know exact community opinion.

sv.
@TheDestroyer Ok. Good luck reaching concensus :)

A: Let's delete all old answers from early days of the site that lack any references at all

TezzI don't think all the unsourced answer should be deleted at this time. However if a question contains at least one sourced/scripture based answer, then all the other unsourced answers of that question should be deleted. Example: There is a question: Why is Lord Vishnu called Aravamudhan? I h...

Is 6 upvotes concensus? Does it become a rule?
How did you decide on "cite sources rule" - did u go by user votes or mod votes?!

4:48 AM
@sv. Current users votes.

> Current users votes.

sv.
@TheDestroyer ok, how many votes makes something a rule on this site?

@TheDestroyer, @sv. are we kidding here? :-)

@sv. I don't think we have any such rule.
@iammilind Not simply by votes. But also by discussion. Many people agree in deleting answers without sources.

sv.
@iammilind No :) I wrote a serious question on this topic. It's quite shocking it received 4 downvotes!

Q: What rules does this site currently follow? When does a highly-upvoted post become a rule?

sv. What rules does this site currently follow? Are the rules being followed here arbitrary (i.e., "subject to interpretation") or are they very-well-defined so any user can easily lookup a rule if required and dispute a mod's decision citing a particular rule? Are the current site FAQs considered r...

@sv. Voting can go drastically wrong in SE sites. You might aware of it.

@TheDestroyer, how do you decide "many people agree"?
There is no upvoted answer to following post:

Q: Official policy for deleting answers that don't cite sources

The DestroyerAs discussed in this question, most users agree with rule of backing up answers with sources. Now comes the question, what is the official procedure for deleting answers that don't cite sources? Two possible cases arise. Answers by new and active users (including answers by all unregistered u...

@sv., no you receive 5 downvotes. 1 is my upvote. I think I told you last time, to take break. :-)

sv.
@iammilind I think rules in Indian parliament are more clear than on this site thankfully :P

@iammilind We discussed in this room. Many active users agreed with deleting answers without sources. We proposed arbitrary time span and it got good response.

sv.
@iammilind Yeah, limiting myself to others answers and voting these days :)

@TheDestroyer, but once you bleed the deleting sword, you won't be able to show discussion of this room to the grieving user. Hence better you post an answer to your own Qn.
@sv. from your various posts, I sense that, you are quite crystal clear about the SE workings. Even though your this profile is limited to Hinduism.SE. But unfortunately, because of your too much of the involvment in the betterment, your contributions are devalued. (You know the "diminishing effect").

Hence, one need to get freshen up & then involve with better ideas.

4:55 AM
@TheDestroyer I seriously thought you're asking a question in that post :)
"Now comes the question, what is the official procedure for deleting answers that don't cite sources?"

@sv. I don't really understand why you posted that question. We were saying many times all rules are revised, but you asked about fate of answers with wiki even before community not deciding them.

sv.
Suggestion for future: please don't ask new questions in "official policy" posts!!

@sv. Yes. I was asking suggestions too.

@TheDestroyer, actually your post is officially a Qn only. Hence it's still not eligible to be a "rule". So either you or @Pandya, should post an answer & with its upvotes & acceptance, you may make it a rule.

sv.
@TheDestroyer Well it appeared to me that post was asking questions than clarifying stuff. Please read your post again ignoring the title.

4:58 AM
@sv. You also cited old rules and asked why are they not implemented?

> You also cited old rules and asked why are they not implemented?
@TheDestroyer, You may have right intention, but people may misinterpret as childish. You are a Mod. Plz don't compare the actions of user with yours. Good luck for your discussion. I will see you guys later.

@iammilind when did i compare?
@iammilind I'm saying possible reasons why Sv's question got downvotes.

sv.
@TheDestroyer it is a wiki, please treat it like one, please stop using "you"....
Does a highly-upvoted answer such as this and this automatically become a rule? If so, when? And how many upvotes does a post need to become a rule?
When an upvoted post becomes a rule, are they publicly announced?
All valid questions .. if you don't have answers maybe CM will answer?

@TheDestroyer, It appeared that you were answering here(http://chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/36200561#36200561) to @sv.'s just above post.
Fine, I will come later.

sv.
@TheDestroyer Those questions have nothing to do with current rules being formed .. it's an independent post. Treat it like one!

5:07 AM
@sv. I think no such exact upvotes to decide.
@sv. will be added.

sv.
@TheDestroyer Both India & US have the RTI or FOIA Act, downvotes or upvotes, an RTI needs to be properly answered :)
@TheDestroyer Please add that to the answer. I take the answer as "arbitrary" then ...

@sv. if we go solely by no. of upvotes or downvotes, that will be bad decision, IMO.

sv.
@TheDestroyer Can you give some examples why it will be bad?

@sv. See how Gravity answer got upvotes. That is emotional upvoting ( many Indians and Hindus are very happy as Vedas mentioned Gravity even before newton discovering it).

sv.
@iammilind Agree. Either edit it or do a new post with no answers?
@TheDestroyer let's talk about meta posts...

5:19 AM
@sv. IMO, there should be discussion also.
@sv. what "arbitrary"?

sv.
@TheDestroyer "Are the rules being followed here arbitrary (i.e., "subject to interpretation") or are they very-well-defined so any user can easily lookup a rule if required and dispute a mod's decision citing a particular rule?"

@sv. what does "very well defined" mean?

@iammilind You are mistaken Its not a work of a modern day acharya at all..tHe book quotes from X Smriti Y Purana all the time(at least almost all the time)..In those cases we explicitly know which ancient scriptures are the source of those verses..but in few cases they don't mention the original sources..In those cases we don't know the exact scriptural sources that's all.but they are still taken from one or the other scriptures and are not the author's personal opinion..

@sv. They're not comparable

@sv. You may know, we only got good response on Sources citation rule. But yet we (community) have to revise many rules. After revising all rules, those rules are very well defined and that is the sole purpose of revisting rules.
@sv. Haha. I'm not sure about Indian Parliament but IPC rules are ambiguious.

sv.
5:29 AM
@Pandya Why not?! World runs on rules .. if rules are not good, go back and fix them until they make sense to a layman. And remove the ambiguity.

@iammilind yes, he has been joined to other sites like so & mse more than 4 years. I and The Destroyer also asking him to start with fresh but looks it didn't work. Hope your explanation may work :)

sv.
@Pandya LOL, what's fresh? History repeats itself ... needs checks in place so mods don't abuse their powers. Needs clear rules in place to remove ambiguity!

@iammilind Common SE rules are applied but there are also rules specific to this site. You can consider it as overriding methods (rules) from Parent class (Meta SE ).

sv.
Anyways, I suggest you mods take my post seriously. With a "fresh mind" .. it appears it's the mods carrying old baggage, not me!

@sv. I think you should check mods after revising all rules. :P

In fact I referenced a good post by a mod, asking why it's not a rule yet. Maybe it's the rest of the community who needs a fresh mind??!! 😉😃
Later. Bye guys ...

@sv. There's no baggage here. That question was asked when community is revisiting rules. That may be reason for downvotes (btw, i didn't downvote that question). 1st question is : "What rules does this site currently follow?" Frankly, without finalizing how can we answer this question. (Please don't take this as other way. But Just guessing reasons for your downvotes).

1 hour later…
6:58 AM
@Pandya, @TheDestroyer, Ok , what I told to @sv. was just a personal advice. He has a strong memory of various issues, hence it will be good if they are resolved. Any such person (like sv.), who keeps a check is good for community building.

The Qn posted by him on "What rules does this site follow..." is quite right. Actually, in any rulebook, the 1st rule is "how to make a rule?". So in that sense, that Qn is quite "fresh".

It will be very helpful, if either of the Mods spare some time to decide that. It's going to help the mods only IMO.
The earlier rule was, "Coz the Mod felt so", but I hope that we don't want to follow that anymore. :-)
With enthusiasm & participation of you two Mod-s, Keshav is sidelined. Which is good for the community. Keshav is good in main site. For Meta, we need objectivity & clarity.
