Hello world. I have a question. When you say 'Ich gehe auf die Straße', it means 'I go along the street' or does it mean 'I go to the street'?
Wrzlprmft
@GofunDake Neither, it means: “I go onto the street.”

My measly English doesn't help me here. So, if I'm at street B and aiming to get to street A, can I say 'Ich gehe auf ''A'' straße'?

@GofunDake
Ich gehe zur Beispielstraße
, more likely. Possibly
in die Beispielstraße
, too. Definitely not
auf die Beispielstraße
, except for very few exceptions where the street name is understood to mean an area (e.g.
auf die Reeperbahn
).

German-vertigo mode activated. Thank you for making me confused.
