How to best explain that the second sentence doesn't nullify the third is this paragraph? "When two dice eliminate each other, remove them from the pool of rolled dice. Dice that the attacker rolled can only eliminate dice that the defender rolled and vice versa. All possible eliminations must be made."
I am going to put some examples in my answer later but unsure how to explain that nothing in that cancels out anything else in it

@JoeW "All eliminations between attacker/defender dice that you can make, you must make—elimination is not optional."
Replace last sentence with that?
Alternately, we could explain elimination a bit differently.

The paragraph I quoted is from a rule book so I can't change the wording

Ooh.
You're explaining a rules quote, got it.

When I get a break from work I am going to provide some examples where multiple dice are eliminated from the results but some are not because they are on the same side

Q: Why the insistence on who has the most dice after removals?

vonBoomslangIn Ninja All-Stars, combat is resolved by each player throwing the amount of dice specified by the combatants' stats and any bonuses coming from the conditions, then matched dice are removed, then the one who has the most dice remaining chooses which of their dice to be the result. Except... the...

that is the question

"When they say all possible eliminations must be made, they mean that for each attacker/defender die elimination you can make, you must make that elimination. It is not trying to say that an attacker's own dice can eliminate each other, otherwise we wouldn't have this second sentence saying they can't do that."

If you don't mind I will include that in my edit (that is if you don't beat me to it :P )

I don't play this game so I won't try to answer. Please go ahead and include that, it's why I shared it after all. :)
Don't worry about crediting me for the phrasing either, just make a good answer. :)

I don't either but it seems pretty clear in the rules
one of the things I like about the site is I can discover more games by looking up answers for questions

Same. :D
