It's always nice when we get a higher volume of MTG questions, but I kind of wish this guy could write a coherent question

So - I meant no offence to you or denigration of your work or anything; that comment was directed purely to the idea that whatever was going on, something wasn't clicking about lands to them.

(I wrote my own anwer 'cause I got the idea to point them to the quickstart guide and basic rulebook -- those helped me when I started out having no idea how certain fundamental things worked.)

I'm not sure what hteir mental model of lands is, but... best guess is, you put down lands, and you can cast a spell when you have a high enough number of lands. You can cast Herald of Kozilek when you have 1 island, 1 mountain, and 1 of anything else. Swiftwater Cliffs therefore must be an island and/or a mountain... and then that makes no sense because it isn't, so they get stuck.

@doppelgreener No worries! I agree, obviously they either didn't really try to read my answer or something was missing from it for them, and hopefully your answer covers it better.

And your guess for their mental model seems pretty plausible, certainly better than anything else I can think of.

do they still think lands get "used up" each turn? or can i cast all four herald of kozileks in my hand at the same time if i have 1 island and 2 mountains?
