Non-scientific survey: My sense is that most Ashkenazi shuls today (at least outside of Israel) use taam elyon for Aseret Hadibrot when reading parashat Yitro. I’d be interested if your experiences agree with mine?

Joel KIt would seem that original Minhag Ashkenaz was to use ta'am elyon only on Shavu'ot, but on shabbat parashat yitro and shabbat parashat va'etchanan to use ta'am tachton. @JoelK Ashkenazi, various places in the US: I don't recall anyone leining with the ta'am tachton.

@JoelK In multiple venues where I've been scheduled to read I've offered to use ta'am tachton, but have always been turned down (so far; new place coming up next week be"h). Once a rabbi even laughed at me for asking what his shul's practice is.
