@all it was nice to be back for a couple of weeks! I'll try to pop in more often, maybe answer a question every now and then, but unfortunately right now I am too busy to be here consistently (I actually sacrificed sleep and hygiene for the sake of Purim Torah...). A freilichin Purim to all!

@MonicaCellio I had a brief thought to pop back in just to get a new item for my wardrobe. But, between starting a new job as a software developer, going back to school, chavrusas, and preparing and teaching shiurim, it just wasn't in the cards. PTIJ was not really feasible either, but I couldn't resist! Hope to see you (and be seen) more in the future!

@Y  e  z you sound busy! I've enjoyed your posts in the last couple weeks here, and I really hope you can find time to visit us at least occasionally. Good luck with job and school! Those are both big changes.

@MonicaCellio They must have been saving up that post for several days now, since it's no longer the top-voted open PTIJ post; that would be which Dr. Seuss book to buy.
Apparently, I'm now an official Rabbi for the day. Does anyone have any sha'alos they'd like me to pasken?

2:50 AM
@DonielF we discussed it with them several days ago, yes. I just tweeted a reply with the Seuss question -- thanks!

Yes - a rabbi or an amora @donielf

Q: Tenth Birthday Project: Topics

DonielFIs it a bit early for this? Maybe. We'll see. Previously on MY.Meta: How about a commemorative publication? "Mi Yodeya - the first ten years" or something like that. Our other publications are themed; this one, in contrast, would be a collection of interesting and/or important questions and ...

@Dr.Shmuel Is that necessarily a contradiction?

4:09 AM
@Y  e  z I think we can safely say your short visit has had a positive impact – only two weeks of participation and already in fourth place for the year in reputation.

I’m giving out votes today! Ping me a post and I’ll upvote it! (Unless I already did, in which case, send another!)

@Dr.Shmuel What if it's a really bad post?

@alex free is free for all!

Q: PTIJ: Why is Haman obsessed with Bose?

ShokhetBose headphones are great and all, but what's up with Haman's insistence that they should get the Jews' property after his sinister plan was complete? Haman's affinity for the audio systems company is apparent in a number of places, but see eg Esther 3:13 וְנִשְׁל֨וֹחַ סְפָרִ֜ים בְּיַ֣ד הָרָ...

@רבותמחשבות Amen! Lamar too!

4:27 PM
@Dr.Shmuel on your account, that's very kind and laudable. On mine, I'm hesitant to accept your offer, given the curses and blessings in Peah 8:9. However, I think this post qualifies as "needy," compared to the hishtadlut that went into it.
... and, in a deep historic cut, I'll make a similar appeal for this answer on behalf of a friend

4:44 PM
@Isaac Take a look at the Yerushalmi on that Mishnah. It's clear that those curses only apply to one who pretends to be needy so that he gets Tzedakah. The implication is that one who pretends to be needy for jest or one who receives without pretending to be needy are not included.
Rambam in Hil. Matnos Aniyim 10:19 seems to rule this way as well: כָּל מִי שֶׁאֵינוֹ צָרִיךְ לִטּל וּמְרַמֶּה אֶת הָעָם וְנוֹטֵל
And SA YD 255:2: כל מי שאינו צריך ליטול מהצדקה ומרמה העם ונוטל
And-okay, I'll stop.

5:09 PM
@DonielF the blessing, though, is not for merely not dissembling
BTW, there's a blessing there for judging truly, so one wonders whether aspiration for that is worth setting aside when deciding to whom to give tzedaka. But perhaps it only applies in the first place to official judges, perhaps, to unify the Mishna, to those who apportion the communal tzedaka funds

@Isaac That reading would be supported by BB 8b: והמשכילים יזהירו כזוהר הרקיע וגו' זה דיין שדן דין אמת לאמתו ומצדיקי הרבים ככוכבים לעולם ועד אלו גבאי צדקה במתניתא תנא והמשכילים יזהירו כזוהר הרקיע זה דיין שדן דין אמת לאמתו וגבאי צדקה ומצדיקי הרבים ככוכבים לעולם ועד אלו מלמדי תינוקות
But then there's Megillah 15b: ולרוח משפט זה הדן את יצרו וליושב על המשפט זה הדן דין אמת לאמתו ולגבורה זה המתגבר על יצרו משיבי מלחמה שנושאין ונותנין במלחמתה של תורה שערה [אלו ת"ח] שמשכימין ומעריבין בבתי כנסיות ובבתי מדרשות

Q: Changed Questions - answer etiquette

rosendsIf, contrary to the position written up here, an asker changes a question after an (upvoted) answer is given because the asker wished to refine the question in order to get a different answer, should earlier answer be deleted (lest it garner downvotes from a later visitor who is unaware that they...
