@DoubleAA I would give unclear what your asking as the close reason.
@DoubleAA how come your posting of the comment here says it's from 2 hours ago, but when I follow the link it says it's from 1 hour ago?

7:03 PM
@DoubleAA I recommend that you codify your idea on Meta Stack Exchange so that you can point to that in the future instead of a chat transcript.
@DoubleAA Looks like he just fixed it.
@YEZ Weird. I get the same thing. If anything, I'd expect the stamp in chat to be less, since that number is frozen as text when the message is posted, while the stamp on the comment is re-calculated each time you reload the page it's on. I wonder if it's two different rounding conventions.

YEZ
@IsaacMoses my thoughts also.

@YEZ Baruch shekivanti
This question's premise (that Satan exists, the Satan is a he, that Satan tried to lead Adam ha-rishon astray, that the snake was actually Satan) are not based on Jewish thought. It really doesn't belong here. — Bachrach44 3 hours ago
^^^ Worthy of discussion. (Also, note that this came from a new user who's also a new employee at Sefaria, a cross-pollination that makes me happy.)
... Part of this: Should we allow the creation of , which didn't exist previously, for this question?

Q: Comment linked "before" it was posted

YEZI managed to travel to the future, by simply following a link in chat to the comment that was linked! It was short lived, because I lost the advanced hour as soon as I went away from that page. A comment was linked in chat, with the timestamp as "2 hours ago." When I followed the link, the com...

@IsaacMoses You want to create satan? I think there's enough evil going around already without our help...
@IsaacMoses Oh you're just allowing his creation. Carry on.

@IsaacMoses on meta.se or meta.my?

@DoubleAA The latter. Please excuse the typo.

I very much don't understand how hot questions are calculated. this judaism.stackexchange.com/questions/40178/… is somehow on the network hot list. 1 answer, with no overwhelming voting going on.

@YEZ The algorithm is intentionally obscure, to make gaming it harder. I think rate of increase in views is probably part of it.

YEZ
@IsaacMoses I know it's complicated, I looked into it briefly. But in order to make it obscure it seems they also made it bad.

1 hour later…
8:56 PM
@IsaacMoses oh, nice catch. I don't think any good can come of having that tag.
@IsaacMoses oh cool (about the Sefaria cross-pollination)!

YEZ
@MonicaCellio Satan was created to facilitate the ultimate revelation of Hashem's Oneness, so that tag would lead to the ultimate good! (See da'as tevunos simanim 30 - 50 or so)

@YEZ I'll have to take your word on the citation at the moment, but whether the satan serves a purpose is distinct from whether a tag for that does. It just seems like it'll attract the wrong kinds of questions from people who think the christian view is universal. (But I guess, on the other hand, getting those questions so we can correct those misimpressions is good. Sure, I can argue both sides of a question. :-) )

YEZ
@MonicaCellio the tag would lead to the ultimate revelation of Mi Yodeya's Oneness.

9:17 PM
@YEZ ah, a classic. :-)

@YEZ @MonicaCellio Me too.

@MonicaCellio CB parshas Shelach Lecha?

[Just catching up in here and not yet caught up on site, but:] Can people please chime in at judaism.stackexchange.com/q/40143 (see the comments by myself and Yishai) or here -- or simply vote to reopen? I really, really think it's a duplicate, but apparently Yishai really, really disagrees.

@msh210 I would just rather it not be closed via the moderator power. If it garners 5 regular votes, OK. I don't agree, but it wasn't just a moderator decision. I understand the need for a moderator to quickly close questions rather than waiting for the 5 votes, but in this case it wasn't cut and dry.
@msh210 On the question, here is my point, although I don't have time to source an answer. Kavod is primarily about feeding, clothing and transporting. That is the Halacha. The original question left the possibility for that. The answer understood the issue differently, but didn't garner many votes either. The question under discussion assumes honor means things like psychological support, etc. So although they reference the 10 commandments, they don't necessarily know what that means.
@msh210 And in this case, they have divergent interpretations. So stripping away the 10 commandments, we really have two different questions about parental obligations to children in the Torah.

YEZ
@Yishai the question over there mentions kavod habrios as one possibility of the kavod required, which is not feeding and clothing.

9:31 PM
@YEZ Yes, that is what I meant by "left the possibility".

YEZ
@Yishai So they were not asking "is there a responsibility of kavod as is defined in the mitzvah of kabed es avicha" - they were asking a general question, using the word kavod in a broader sense. I don't see how this question is so different.

@YEZ They are similar, but I don't think the original question meant this, and even if that was a general possibility, it wasn't being specifically called out to be asked about.

YEZ
@Yishai I'm not sure why specifying one aspect of another question is valuable. If question A says "What about X and Y" and later question B asks "What about Y", why is question B worth anything?
if a question would ask "is the word לשחגדכ anywhere in shas?" and someone came along and asked "is the word לשחגדכ anywhere in maseches berachos" is that not a dupe just because it rules out other possibilities?

@YEZ Would you have thought that Y was included in the first question? Would it even have made you think about Y? But either way, I'm saying let the votes decide. If you vote to close that is 3.

YEZ
@Yishai I can't vote, cuz it's already closed. But I am for the closure.

9:39 PM
@YEZ I don't think the similarity is anywhere as close as that. Would you have thought of it in those terms just reading the original question?

@Yishai If the asker edits into the Q (as he/she oughta anyway) what he means, then I heartily second reopening. Feel free to do so instead of him/her.
... And then I, for one, would cut the dib'ros reference
I've gtg; excuse me. @MonicaCellio, I see you just entered. Please have a look at the penultimate post from me before this one, re judaism.stackexchange.com/q/40143? (Cf comments there from me and Yishai.)

All: I've gone ahead and replaced with . I've added it to a couple questions about Facebook, but the following one already has 5 tags and I'm not sure which one should go to make room:

@msh210 OK, I edited. I guess the comments should be cleaned up if you decide to reopen it.
@MonicaCellio ^^^^^^

@msh210 @Yishai @YEZ - I think as written the question is a dupe, but it's because it's not written quite the way the author apparently intended. Respect is not the same as honor; in comments the OP seems to be talking more about respect, understanding, maybe even love, which isn't kavod.
The question refers to the decalogue for "respect" and that's incorrect. So either the question can point out that the decalogue says "honor" (and that this may or may not be relevant), or it can drop the decalogue part and just ask about respect.
@Yishai thanks for that edit. Would somebody care to cast a reopen vote?

@MonicaCellio This one is not about social media specifically and doesn't need the tag IMO.
@MonicaCellio Done.

@msh210 ok makes sense.
@msh210 thanks.
@msh210 good point. Will do.

Anyone have thoughts on judaism.stackexchange.com/questions/40159/… or judaism.stackexchange.com/questions/40161/… (the two comments I just quoted here)?

Gotta run; ttyl.
