@DoubleAA Do I have to do something in order for the script to run? Thank you for your edit approvals and, generally, for your moderation of the site. Hatimah Tovah.

@Lee I assume it runs at some regular interval probably in the middle of the night US time. We'll see. Hatimah Tovah to you and yours as well.

@TRiG Possibly the best pun I've ever heard, but not one I'm likely to repeat myself.

@IsaacMoses There's a reason I didn't complete it here.

@TRiG You have my dule appreciation.
Huh. That's not what I meant. What's the adjective form of "duly"?

@IsaacMoses, due.

@msh210 Oh. Duh.

The question asks about Islamic practices citing a text commanding Jews to do certain things. Muslims don't follow Jewish law, so I'm having trouble seeing the connection that makes this a Jewish question. I also see four close votes, so I'm about to cast the fifth. shofarblows, can you make this more clearly about Judaism and not Islam? Are you asking if we say anything about others bringing about the moshiach in this way? — Monica Cellio ♦ 37 mins ago
@MonicaCellio, I don't get it. The question is explicitly asking about Jewish Iconoclasm. Although I voted to close, my concern is that even if he makes it more Jewish, it would still be off topic as opinion based.

Q: Is there an effective way to design a realistic religion for a world?

CAgrippaWhen building any fictional world, perhaps especially a fantasy world, the whole question of religion is bound to come up. What are the gods? What do people believe in? How and where and why do they worship? And what effects or implications will that have? Then there are the sub-questions, such ...

@TRiG Looks like interesting reading. I thought that Neal Stephenson did a thought-provoking job of this in Anathem - both for the way of life and thought of the Avout that most of the book is concerned with and for the religious mythology of the Kelx, who show up later in the book.

@Yishai the question says ISIS is doing this stuff, then says "we see similar commands in the Jewish bible and Jewish tradition called as Jewish Iconoclasm ", then asks if ISIS is preparing for the moshiach, an inherently Jewish concept. But ISIS not only wouldn't follow the commandments he refers to (they're commandments to us) but would probably sneer at them because they're for the Jews.
So I don't see how this question as worded fits. If he were asking the more general "does Judaism say anything about gentiles demolishing idolatry as part of bringing the moshiach", that would be on-topic.

6:17 PM
@IsaacMoses Should I add that to Mount TBR?

@MonicaCellio I don't read the question that way. I read it as "ISIS is doing this stuff does Judaism regard this as fulfilling a prophecy and does Judaism see ISIS as preparing for Moshiach". Who's right about the read of the question as worded is irrelevant to my point which is - if he did ask the question exactly as I phrased it, would it not be primarily opinion based?

@Yishai ah, I see what you're saying -- you're suggesting a different close reason. You may be right (need to think more about it). "Does Judaism tie destroying idols to the coming of moshiach? If so, what/by whom/etc counts?" could be workable. Anyway, if the OP edits the question we can look then. (Gotta run now.)

@TRiG I enjoyed it a great deal and read it twice (something I don't do with many books). Given what I know of you, I suspect you'd enjoy it as well. It's got tons of fascinating worldbuilding, clashes of cultures, lots of fun with language, competing philosophies, and a sci-fi adventure plot to hold it all together.

7:07 PM
@MonicaCellio Yes, I agree that if you drop the specificity of ISIS from the question, that would change the equation. But then, I don't know if the OP would even be interested if the applicability to ISIS was left to the reader.
