Apologies, but I have two exactly contradictory answers on my question with equal upvotes (judaism.stackexchange.com/questions/17881/rice-in-a-salt-shaker) anyone mind explaining what is going on to me (my hunch is that it is not allowed)
@soandos I imagine it will work itself out if you give it a little more time. People can look up sources inside, more users will bring their knowledge to the table. We'll just have to see.
@DoubleAA, thanks

Q: Does Jewish law forbid Internet usage?

Adam MoshehThe Ichud HaKehillos LeTohar HaMachane anti-Internet rally is coming up in a few weeks, on May 20, 2012. What do contemporary halakhic authorities say about the permissibility or prohibition of using the Internet? Obviously it seems like some forbid and some permit. What are the different reas...

^^^bounty is ending soon on this question...
please add a strict answer to complement the lenient one
@AdamMosheh just like how this question has both a strict answer and a lenient one

Q: Promised to name son Shimon - now husband is Shimon!?

samA woman who desperately wanted to get married traveled to Meron, the burial place of Rebbi Shimon bar Yochai, and vowed that if she found her match, she would name her first son Shimon in his merit. She indeed got married shortly thereafter, but her new husband’s name was Shimon! What should she ...

^^ All the comments are good, but I like mine best. :-)

@msh210 And I, mine. ;-)
@AdamMosheh You may not know that the Ashkenazi custom is to not name after a living relative.
@msh210 (I meant my first comment.)
@AdamMosheh Or maybe you do know that.
In any event, the asker should have explained as much in the question. I've left a comment now saying so.
19:08
@ShmuelBrin - I would have to ask her again to be 100% certain, but I remember that one of my aunts told me a few years ago that my grandmother's family is descended from Jews who were forced to flee from Spain because of the Inquisition to stay Jewish. My mother's family obviously does have many Ashkenazi minhagim, but I think they are in fact partially Sephardic. (at least spiritually if not genetically) — Adam Mosheh 51 secs ago

@msh210 Why did you delete your answer to the early shabbat question?
@DoubleAA Which? Link, please?
@DoubleAA Oh. Because the Ig"M there really doesn't say what that Web site says it says. (As the comments point out.)
@msh210 Ahh.
Do you think those questions should be merged?
@DoubleAA No.
@DoubleAA yeah. I upvoted GG's answer to the earlier question, because Rabbi Neustadt himself is a source, but I don't feel like citing it myself.
@DoubleAA One is about meat, the other about wine. People may not know they have the same rule. (Heck, maybe some hold they don't.)
20:04
@msh210 But couldn't we just edit the word wine into the older one and then close as dupe? And on the off chance that someone distinguishes it will be dealt with in an answer? Just to be a little more organized.
@Mod can you merge into per its tag wiki?
I want to improve this question... Any advice, rabotai? — Adam Mosheh 5 secs ago
@DoubleAA I think that it deserves a separate category. There are many questions regarding on Mi.Yodeya.
@AdamMosheh Bring it up on meta. Existing policy is too combine them. You can ask for a change.
20:35
@BaalShemotTovot Baruch HaBa!

20:53
@DoubleAA Done.
If we ever do reinstate it as a separate tag, it should be maasar-kesafim or something, not maaser-kesafim.
@msh210 "Maaser-kesafim-or-tzedakah"?
@DoubleAA We could. By all means vote to close. I won't pull rank on this (i.e., use a binding closure vote). (I would probably vote to close it.)
@AdamMosheh We have a tz'daka tag; I forget its name offhand.
@AdamMosheh you may find judaism.stackexchange.com/a/11362 interesting
@msh210 - 41 days ago I also found it interesting because that is when I upvoted it.
21:07
@AdamMosheh ;-)
@msh210 Is yydl no longer active? It is the only answer, and it is comprehensive. He should make it the best answer.
@AdamMosheh His profile says he was last seen here July 17, so he seems to be around.
@IsaacMoses Does anyone think that the reason for this is because M.Y users search for questions using google and click on them more often, which is why they come up more often? Or is it probably because outsiders are agree that the information found on our website is very valuable?

Q: Should the tag "heterodox" have subcategories?

Adam MoshehThe heterodox is used for non-Orthodox movements. Would it make sense to create a separate Reform tag and a Conservative tag?

I'm not sure why we didn't have a baraita tag until now.
@MonicaCellio I thought it said June... nvm
@AdamMosheh I really doubt we need it. In that question, for example, doesn't the Kusim tag suffice?
@msh210 Masechet kusim? ()
@AdamMosheh That one.
@msh210 the masechtot ketanot are baraitot. but what if someone asks a question about a non-mishnaic tannaitic statement in the gemara?
21:48
@AdamMosheh Then tag it with the appropriate meseches tag, or other relevant tags. The only reason I can think of using a b'raysa tag is for a question about how the b'raysos were redacted or what-have-you -- and probably not even then -- and I don't think we have any such.

Q: Rating of Users

Adam MoshehUser #2 is IsaacMoses. Why are numbers such as 1, 4, 6, and 8 missing? Perhaps IsaacMoses is the #2. Low numbers should be in high demand. Can't users request to switch to the lower numbers to save URL space because the other users previously disactivated their accounts? E.g., sports teams have p...

Q: How should we handle pluralistic posts?

Monica CellioDuring the Town Hall Chat Isaac Moses asked the following question: Consider a Question "I'm injured, so I can't walk to synagogue this Sabbath. What can I do to connect my prayers with those of the community?", an Answer "According to the Conservative Movement, you may drive to synagogue. Dr...

@msh210 Which post; where?
We have gotten a lot of suggested edits from anonymous users today.
@DoubleAA Yes, that's surprising. I'm assuming (occam's razor) that they're coming from one person who's browsing our site, rather than a bunch of different people. If so, I wish we had a way to invite him to create an account and join us.

Q: Shomronim and Halakha

Adam MoshehDo the Baraitot brought down by Masechet Kutim and other random halachot in the Talmud that were said about "kutim" apply to the 750 remaining Samaritans in the world today (who currently live in Eretz Yisrael), or are these people just as "non-Jewish" as all non-Jews are? Cf. Second Kings chpt....

@DoubleAA I think I should answer meta.judaism.stackexchange.com/q/1299 with "If it asks about A or B and answers discuss A and B then..." and then edit the question from "A question asks about case A. All the answers..." to "A question asks about case A or case B. All the answers...". :-)
@msh210 Just make sure it's clear you mean A xor B.

Q: Generalizing a specific question

Double AAA question asks about case A. All the answers explain the rule with respect to cases A and B which have the same rule (or at least no one has yet to find a distinction).
