Q: Why is there a Vuv with a Patach in וַיִּקְרָא?

EEEWhat is the reason for the patach under the vuv in וַיִּקְרָא ? I would expect a schva.

IMO it's out of scope.

@jake You did sound pretty sleepy, but nice call about Shemuel!
@Alex Did you write those questions or was it part of a set?
@All Does anyone else mentally insert a vowel to 'msh' so that they don't have to say m-s-h? I use the short 'i'.
@IsaacMoses Shkoyach again!
Oh and thank you R' @GilStudent for your enlightening comments! You should consider registering an account as it will give you full access to the features of Mi Yodeya and help keep your contributions in one place. I look forward to seeing you around! :)

Q: "Edit tags" link is missing; is that a reputation privilege?

Monica CellioIt used to be that if I hovered over the end of the row of tags I would see an "edit tags" link. I no longer see this; I'm not sure how long it's been gone, but possibly since graduation. Is this a reputation privilege? That seems odd, since I can edit tags freely by editing the post. I see t...

@DoubleAA The game questions, you mean? I wrote them together with a family member, years ago - we used to like playing regular Tribonds, and we had the idea to create a Jewish version.

1:50 PM
@Alex I didn't get one :(
then again, I suppose that might be a good thing....
:D

2:50 PM
@IsaacMoses see meta.judaism.stackexchange.com/a/164 & comments. There's no context here of Jewish learning AFAICT

3:39 PM
All: Can you indicate your current reputation, and whether or not you see the "edit tags" link (on hovering your mouse over the tags on any question you just loaded), in this answer please?

Sam Brand on June 04, 2012

Hello. Sam Brand here. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m part of the CHAOS at Stack Exchange. I handle certain “special projects” across the network, oversee syndication, and occasionally poke my head into our communities to make sure our platform works to deliver killer content to the outside world. A couple weeks ago, I embarked upon one of these experiments.

Each day of the week (May 7 – May 11) I dropped into Google Trends: Hot Searches to find a buzzy keyword about which I could ask a question at one of our sites. I did this mostly out of curiosity; I’d never used the vast majo …

@rumtscho Thanks for letting me know!

@rumtscho thanks! Mmm, now I'm hungry. :-)

@MonicaCellio Hint: these things are easy and quick to make, I tried two versions when I didn't know that Martha had found a working one

8:21 PM
@rumtscho "Easy to make" if you're experienced enough inthe kitchen to know what "added until mixture holds together in a slightly sticky dough" means. (I'm not really.) (fortunately, the blog gives an estimated weight immediately after. :-))

Hard to believe it’s been only six months since the last moderator election on Stack Overflow…

Remember A Theory of Moderation? It talks about how moderators are the “human exception handlers” on Stack Overflow, elected to deal with those rare situations the normal community moderation can’t handle. It also notes:

The most common moderator task is to follow up on flagged posts. Every post contains a small flag link, which anyone with 15 reputation can use.

Over 200K users with at least 15 reputation have accessed Stack Overflow in the past three months. That’s a lot of folks able to raise a red flag – and a lot of them do. …

@msh210 It's my estimation, so might not be that good with the original recipe
It means that you can form balls out of it (it isn't liquid like a cake batter) but it smears at your hands while you are shaping the balls.

@rumtscho Ah, okay. Thanks! :-)

8:57 PM
@rumtscho yeah, these sound pretty easy. I assume we're going for something along the lines of the cohesiveness of matzah balls. Have you experimented with other fruits yet? (I'm thinking apricot for my first batch...)

I didn't do fruits.
I did caramel with butter, rum and marmite for one batch and roasted chopped hazelnuts for the other.
The things are really much blander than expected, like waterlogged bread, and they need lots of taste.
Try putting sugar in the water you boil them in, it helps.

@rumtscho thanks for the advice!
