On Saturday, I started working an interesting problem. The post did not receive any answer, it is old and the problem was around the function $$\large e^{-\log ^2\left(3 x-\frac{3}{2}\right)}$$ My computer crashed and I am unable to find the post again even using Approach0 (I do not remember how ...

The OP mentions that there was a plot. Would perhaps restriction to posts containing the URL imgur.com help restrict the search results?

I think this is the question you are looking for: Approximate a known function by a sum of real power function Similarities: There is a plot. There are no answers. The interval is $[1/2, 2]$. The function matches exactly. It's from 2021, not that long ago but not new either. It has the approxima...

Given a known function $f(x):[a,b]\to \mathbb{R}$. (For example, $f(x) = e^{-\ln^2 \left(3x-\frac{3}{2} \right)} \mathbb{I}_{\{\frac{1}{2}<x<2\}}$ over the support $[a,b] = \left[\frac{1}{2} ; 2 \right]$) I want to approximate the function $f(x)$, over its support $[a,b]$, by a sum of piecewi...
