A: Can a work be considered "not written by AI" if AI was used for research and brainstorming but was not used to (re)write, edit or proofread text?

user21820I disagree with the implicit claim in Amazon's guidelines that "If you created the content yourself, and used AI-based tools to edit, refine, error-check, or otherwise improve that content (whether text or images), then it is considered "AI-assisted" and not “AI-generated.”". The fact is that pre...

@user21820 Yeah I agree with you here, for sure. Of course there's a chance that OP is downplaying how much they relied on AI, but if we give good faith and take what they say at face value, it's pretty clear that it's not even AI assisted, let alone AI generated.
I also agree pretty strongly with what you said about the distinction between "AI generated" and "AI assisted". It's a pretty useless distinction. I mean, generative AI is programmed by humans, trained on human-made work, directed by human prompts, and even the laziest creator will go through multiple revisions or different prompts until they get what they want. There's really no difference between AI-gen content is AI assisted. It's a distinction without a difference.
I'd upvote if I were in the community but I'm not :p

@JadeVanadium I actually forgot about that, which makes "AI-generated" much more like "AI-assisted" than it seems at first glance.

@user21820 Yeah, "AI assisted" is kinda a scam lmao. People know that other people have negative feelings about AI content, so they try to downplay the role of AI as much as possible. Ultimately it's just the same thing though, the only difference is how much effort the human puts in to make the thing good. Unfortunately, I don't think there's any trustworthy way a creator can reliably convey how much effort they've put in except for the viewers to just judge it for themselves.
And if the viewers have to do that anyway, then that defeats the point of making any kind of distinction. Ultimately, slapping the label "AI assisted" on your stuff, instead of AI gen, has basically exactly the same meaning as "trust me, this thing I have a vested interested in selling you is definitely good actually". It's a worthless promise of quality.
