I did ^^ a little experiment with recording ^^ just through the laptop's built in mic. Turned off noise suppression which seemed to eliminate weird sound level problems. Amp is about 3 feet away, but pointed in a different direction. Maybe worth trying more direct, with less gain on the mic.
