Q: Tag for fingerstyle bass?

@MatthewRead Mechanically speaking, an adult could learn on either alto or tenor, but you'll probably find it's far easier to find a good quality used alto without paying too much -- all of the public schools start young students on alto.
Actually, I know one school where they have so many kids who want to play sax, they make them all start on clarinet first as a "weeder". That would also be a great choice if you've never played a reed instrument before.
