I don't even know what to say to that...
I'm quite shocked
From what I read at least one shooter has said 'the end is coming'
06:31
I'm heading off now, have to pack etc for visiting parents
See ya :)
Can you gently recommend discussion about this is in here? May be better than having it be in Mos?
#Dallas shooting latest: - 4 police officers killed - 3 suspects in custody - Standoff with fourth suspect Latest: http://bbc.in/29s6By9
@AncientSwordRage Sure. If the topic is brought up while I am around, I will direct people in here :)
There seems to be some feelings of contention regarding certain topics being discussed lately sparked by the political things going on in the UK. I am hoping that this can be resolved so that certain users do not feel left out or that the room is constantly off-topic.
07:11
Inevitable reaction is inevitable
Yeah, I don't really know what to say. I like to look at both sides of the issue, I guess.
@steelershark I will give you some tips on ro tools tomorrow if you like
@WadCheber Oh my. I just noticed that. Uhm, I don't even know if I want to have that responsibility.
But...sure, whatever tips you can give me would be great. I don't know if this room would even be open for that long. I don't know.
I doubt it will last long
Yeah. Maybe this should have existed after the UK thing. Maybe there wouldn't have been hurt feelings or whatever else happened in Mos. I don't know :(
07:19
All I can say is a lot of cops in this country have sown the wind.
This is reaping the whirlwind.
Alright.
Reap the whirlwind is a term derived from the proverbial phrase "They that sow the wind, shall reap the whirlwind", which in turn comes from the Book of Hosea in the Hebrew Bible, Hosea 8-7. == Historical use == It was famously used by Arthur "Bomber" Harris in response to the Blitz of 1940 when he said: The Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everybody else, and nobody was going to bomb them. At Rotterdam, London, Warsaw, and half a hundred other places, they put that rather naive theory into operation. They sowed the wind, and now, they are...
Had to look it up
Kinda like "the Chickens have come home to roost."
07:58
@AncientSwordRage Basically, "If you do something that is bound to have horrible consequences, horrible consequences are bound to happen"
Literally, it means something like "If you plant wind seeds, you'll grow a tornado"
Yeah, but going on a random shooting spree isn't solving anything, either. I get that people are upset, but you can't just target cops in general. Don't get me wrong, I frigging hate cops, but you can't just shoot a cop for being a cop...they're not all racist.
I feel awful for the families.
I'm not condoning it, just saying it was inevitable.
I suspect the shooting will just make the original problem much worse.
It's kinda like the Rodney King riots. You can't just target every white person that you see because of an ignorant jury and a-hole cops.
And I'm already feeling nauseated about how this is going to be spun politically.
You can imagine the rhetoric already.
Yeah, I don't even want to know how it will be spun politically.
Exactly. If only we could all follow that, none of this would be happening.
Can we make this the main rule for everyone now?
Second rule: make things not happen right when I wake up in the middle of the night, because I won't be able to get back to sleep.
@AncientSwordRage Oddly, I remember that being used in an old Malcolm in the Middle epi.
sode
Damn.
Fat fingers.
08:12
I have those.
They're the reason I can play bass, but not guitar.
Capy disapproves of my second rule because she's ecstatic that we're not in bed any more.
I didn't even know about this until ferret said something about it in Mos. Napoleon said something about Louisiana shooting when I was talking with him earlier, but I didn't know that it was tied to this.
@steelershark In the past two days, two black men were killed by cops - one while being arrested for selling CDs, shot in the head at point blank range while pinned to the ground; another in his car after being stopped for a broken taillight.
The Dallas shooting took place at a peaceful protest against those killings.
@WadCheber Hmmmm...I see.
Philando Castile was apparently a schoolteacher and mentor to local kids.
I don't know much about Alton Sterling.
@steelershark Ok, so RO powers, since now is tomorrow for me.

@arboviral Sorry, needed an example from Mos.

> It is a curious thing, Harry, but perhaps those who are best suited to power are those who have never sought it. Those who, like you, have leadership thrust upon them, and take up the mantle because they must, and find to their own surprise that they wear it well.
That's rather spooky. I was looking for the origin of that quote yesterday (IRL)
@WadCheber Gotcha.

@arboviral Baader Meinhof Phenomenon.
Cognitive biases are tendencies to think in certain ways that can lead to systematic deviations from a standard of rationality or good judgment, and are often studied in psychology and behavioral economics. Although the reality of these biases is confirmed by replicable research, there are often controversies about how to classify these biases or how to explain them. Some are effects of information-processing rules (i.e., mental shortcuts), called heuristics, that the brain uses to produce decisions or judgments. Such effects are called cognitive biases. Biases have a variety of forms and appear...
The illusion in which a word, a name, or other thing that has recently come to one's attention suddenly seems to appear with improbable frequency shortly afterwards (not to be confused with the recency illusion or selection bias).[39] Colloquially, this illusion is known as the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon.
Get your rooms right, Wad :P
@steelershark Still groggy.
:P
Hehe. I hear ya :)
Probably will be until I get my goddam meds today.
It's been a week since I had ADD meds.
My brain is foggy.
OMG. Is the pharmacy jacking you around again?
08:31
Yep.
I finally called corporate to complain yesterday.
I do $1500 in business there per month, so corporate is eager to make me happy.
Ugh. I'm sorry. Between you, CreationEdge and Mike, I am going to lose my mind with how you guys are treated and cared for.
Tuesday: For the 24th month out of the past 48, they don't have either of my ADD meds in stock. "We will have it by Thursday"
Thursday: "We will have it tomorrow"
@steelershark I forgot - you pin things by clicking the same way you would to star a message, but you pick "pin this message" instead. You can also clear stars from messages.
Oh...cool!
Okay. Got it.
08:48
Me, waiting for the coffee shop to open.
HAHAHA!!
Is that a waffle? And, is it scratching it's butt?
Yes, and apparently.
I'm him, except I don't have my coffee yet.
oooh, Dunkin Donuts opens in 7 minutes!
OMG. I LOVE DUNKIN DONUTS COFFEE!!!
We don't have Dunkin Donuts here. We have to buy the coffee in the store and make it ourselves, but I love it. It's my favorite coffee.
08:55
I love it too.
We have Dutch Bros. coffee shops here on the west coast. That is where I get my coffee if I don't make Dunkin Donuts at home. Dutch Bros. is the best!
My local mom and pop coffee place closes this month. :(
Do the baristas wear bikini tops like they do at the mom and pop places over here? ;)
I suspect they wouldn't need to close if they did.
Good point :)
09:01
Alright, I need coffee and donuts. Back in a few.
See ya.
09:24
No donuts yet.
:(
I had to settle for bananners.
I'm sorry. I hate bananas. I don't know what I would do in that situation ;)

3 hours later…
12:40
Holy crap. The last suspect was killed by giving a bombproof robot a bomb and blowing it up in front of the suspect.
I guess that's what happens when you shoot cops. I don't know.
@WadCheber Have they released any details on the Dallas shooters yet?
@steelershark The escalation is going to get bad.
@Skooba Yeah. It's going to get bad unless they do something about it pretty quickly. It has the potential to turn into and LA riot situation like we saw after the Rodney King verdict.
@steelershark and its like why Dallas? the other two incidents didnt even happen in TX
@Skooba Yeah. Weird. I don't even know.
user132126
12:58
Are we talking about Brexit GBP drop and China yuan devaluation here, or just the shootings?
@Skooba Not really. The dead one said he was angry at white people, angry at Black Lives Matter, etc, and wasn't affiliated with any group.
There were four, including one woman and one dead man.
@CreationEdge just the shootings it seems right now
@WadCheber what i am seeing is the suspect who is dead shot himself. where did you get the bomb robot thing from?
The other 3 are not talking.
@Skooba Chief of police. Spoke about 20 mins ago.
@WadCheber that just sounds like something out of call of duty.... crazy
(CNN) -- The suspect that was killed after a standoff with Dallas police was killed by a bomb that authorities detonated, Dallas Police Chief David Brown told reporters Friday. "We saw no other option but to use our bomb robot and place a device on its extension for it to detonate where the suspect was. Other options would have exposed our officers to grave danger. The suspect is deceased as a result of detonating the bomb," Brown told reporters.
Dallas police chief: we used a robot to detonate a bomb next to the suspect, killing him. He did NOT shoot himself.
The backlash is going to be horrific.
Former Illinois senator tweeted a threat against Obama and BLM, then deleted it.
13:05
Why? Dude was randomly shooting people. Why would there be backlash?
He wasn't randomly shooting people. They set up an ambush. He said "I wanted to kill white people, especially cops"
@steelershark between the 2 shootings elsewhere and now the targeting of cops. cops are going to be even more on alert and ready for a fight.
people need to realize this and not put themselves in situations. the cops also have to understand that people are upset and show restraint.
Former Illinois congressman. My bad.
In other news, former congressman is presumably being investigated by the Secret Service. :P
@WadCheber Uhuh
cops should just go on strike. let people play out the purge for a couple days and then when they are begged to come back, wait another 2 days
13:09
@Skooba NYPD tried that. Crime dropped.
No one begged for anything.
Everyone enjoyed it.
I'm all about The Purge :P
@WadCheber well if no (or less) arrests (or just general police activity) are being made then yes the statics will show "crime dropped"
@WadCheber Yeah, but there had to be some sort of a stand-off or something. Especially after 3 cops and 7 were already wounded and then making a statement like that...
@Skooba No, actual reports dropped.
Everything was fine.
Police reports? :P
13:11
@steelershark Calls to 911, etc.
It was a "slowdown".
Oh, c'mon! You can't say that "Everything was fine" in a city like New York. Wut?
@WadCheber well if you know they wont respond... handle it yourself
Murders dropped off, calls to 911 dropped, etc.
@steelershark One of the safest cities in the country.
I personally am not waiting 8 minutes to begin with
yeah they did clean NYC up... RUDY RUDY RUDY
13:13
Hey, I'm all about no cops, either. I would just assume everyone just take care of themselves.
@WadCheber maybe in the short term, but long term affects would are still unknown and I believe that that rate would not sustain itself
@Skooba Goalposts: moved.
@steelershark There was a standoff.
That's not what will cause the backlash
The event as a whole will.
People will die.
Racists will gloat.
Calling pharmacy. Preparing to have an embolism.
That counts as news, right?
{puts on tinfoil hat} It is all just a ploy to confiscate our weapons and destroy the second amendment!!!!!!
On hold already.
This bodes ill.
@WadCheber with the pharmacy?
13:19
Yar.
hold is the middle name
let us know if we need us to call the police
I'm going into Godzilla mode.

I vote "no" to everything.

"Suspect last seen behind counter, gobbling controlled substances like tic tacs"
'Suspect heard screaming "BRING ON THE LLAMAS!!!"'
and then we are talking about you as another statistic
it will be a sad day
Nope. I'll eat so many uppers and downers that I'll become immortal.
That's how it works. Ask @steelershark. She's a nurse. She knows.
"NJ man eats so many prescription pills that he becomes a demigod"
sounds more like Thaddeus' territory, if anyone would know how to become a demigod it would be him
Hahaha! Yep. That's how it works. Wad will be immortal.
Nope. Wad is waaaaaay more of a demigod than Thaddeus would be.
well... time to hit up the pharmacy out here.... someone will have to challenge Wad
just have to see who ends up on light/dark side
or maybe we both become dark and fight for total control
13:43
With the "Wad" stories that I have heard, I am not sure anything good can come of him raiding a pharmacy :P
"Good"? No.
"Interesting"? Guaranteed.
interesting is better than good
HAHAHA!! LOL!!
13:47
the splatter effect made me think that was blood the first time i saw that for a split seconds until my brain registered the whole picture
I love it when Beevis goes ape sh*t!
I wonder how many people will be visiting their local "sporting goods" stores today
@WadCheber not counting drones?
When have drones been used to kill in the US?
In US history is a very different statement than inside the US
Blah blah zzzz
until it happens because the executive branch is abusing its power

Happens all the time. Everywhere... my hometown this time. Although this was a white guy and he is still alive
@Skooba Huh? You mean police shoot white people, too? I had no idea. We only hear about the black shootings...weird :S
they killed a white guy last week in la too
unarmed
@steelershark it is actually surprising he didn't get 30 bullet holes after what happened in Dallas
never hear about that tho
@Himarm You're just talking crazy now, Himarm!
:P
@Skooba Well, because he's white. Duh.
;)
17:53
Police try to arrest young white boy... attempts unsucessful
@Skooba HAHAHA!! OMG. HILARIOUS.
