@DavidCarlisle, @UlrikeFischer String case folding now works for all of Unicode in pdfTeX; I've got to do the text functions next, plus the various deprecations and renames I feel we need
@DavidCarlisle Yes, it seems to be working: the text part will be tricky but it's more focussed (changing the string code is harder as it is needed by the kernel for loading, so if you mess that up you can't even test)
@UlrikeFischer No: I'm trying to get a more focussed approach such that \char is clearly about character tokens: this is one of the 'to do' to rename some functions
@JosephWright I don't care much about the name ;-). But it would be nice if one could generate a BOM or a duck without have to resort to bytes or local functions.
