@TeXnician In context it is not possible to start the file with a blank line?
```
```
\usemodule[letter]

\starttext

\startletter
[opening={Dear Reader,},
closing={Best regards,},

\input knuth

or is it a problem with the TeX Live 2021 (updated) version?

2 hours later…
7:34 AM
Can we close a question because it is false?

7:50 AM
@Skillmon Yes

@JosephWright not sure if it is really wrong or just something hard to debug: tex.stackexchange.com/q/625890/117050

@Skillmon I suspect that question is a viewer issue or similar

@JosephWright might be, still I want to see his log first...

1 hour later…
@DavidCarlisle oh no

9:41 AM
@PabloGonzálezL Works for me with latest (yesterdays') LMTX. So probably a problem with the old MkIV version in TL2021.

10:09 AM
@PauloCereda ohh

10:42 AM
@HenriMenke Result of adding tests for pgf: I'm now sorting them for l3draw and dvips/dvisvgm :)
@HenriMenke And of course finding a few issues

2 hours later…
12:53 PM
ooh

English Jim, but not as we know it

1:13 PM
@DavidCarlisle ooh

@PauloCereda :D

@DavidCarlisle a very short pleasure, I assume

@DavidCarlisle a nice one

@JasperHabicht came and went:-)

1 hour later…
5:07 PM
@JosephWright FMi is inspired today :)

@PauloCereda ohh, cute!

@samcarter <3

@PauloCereda Yup

@PauloCereda ?
@JosephWright if you land ltkeys we'll be up to file Z in source2e

@DavidCarlisle if when

5:22 PM
@JosephWright I thought fpeval was going to take us past that (which would mean re-doing some rather ancient makeindex trickery for source2e) but I see Frank slipped that in to ltfinal...

@DavidCarlisle :)

@DavidCarlisle ^^^

@PauloCereda I didn't know you could star your own:-)

5:38 PM
@DavidCarlisle You can :)

@PauloCereda Just assume all mine are worthy of a star, no point marking it explicitly

5:50 PM
@DavidCarlisle :)

6:04 PM
@TeXnician Thank you very much, I have confirmed it, if the first lines are empty I only get
resolvers | formats | executing runner 'run luatex format': /usr/local/texlive/2021/bin/x86_64-linux/luatex --jobname="test-foo" --fmt=/home/pablo/.texlive2021/texmf-var/luatex-cache/context/a86c089b384a3076dc514ba966a1fac9/formats/luatex/cont-en.fmt --lua=/home/pablo/.texlive2021/texmf-var/luatex-cache/context/a86c089b384a3076dc514ba966a1fac9/formats/luatex/cont-en.lui --c:currentrun=1 --c:fulljobname="./test-foo.tex" --c:input="./test-foo.tex" --c:kindofrun=1 --c:maxnofruns=9 --c:texmfbinpath="/usr/local/texlive/2021/bin/x86_64-linux"
@TeXnician but if the first lines contain blanks if it compiles, the strange thing is that I'm pretty sure this was working a year ago :(

6:33 PM
@PauloCereda Do you happen to know why? I always thought that that's one of the weirdest aspects about the star feature, especially since you don't star your own repos by default...

@MarcelKrüger No idea... I don't get the idea of starring your own repo. Regarding the watch feature, I think the owner watches their repos by default...

7:28 PM
A question about TDS packaging guidelines. Should all files in a TDS structure have read permissions for "others" as well (in linux's permission terminology). I was manually installing pgfplots package for context and it failed to run. After a bit of debugging, it turns out that there are few files which had permissions to 700 rather than 744. Is that a packaging bug? (I downloaded the TDS file from CTAN)

@Aditya Packaging bug: we've taken steps in l3build to normalise permissions
@Aditya Surprised CTAN didn't complain

Thanks @Joseph. Whom Should I report this to?
CTAN or pgfplots or both?

@Aditya pgfplots is Christian Feuersänger I think
@Aditya I'd tell the pgfplots people: CTAN just host stuff

Thanks. I'll open a bug report on their github issues page.

@Aditya Probably I'll end up fixing by porting to l3build ;)

7:42 PM
:-)
@JosephWright @JosephWright If you want to send a pull request ... github.com/pgf-tikz/pgfplots/issues/413

@Aditya @HenriMenke want me to l3build-ify this?

@JosephWright I was just looking at it but there are quite a few obstacles.
pgfplots uses an awful lot of Bash and Makefiles.
Also it actually comprises two packages, pgfplots and pgfplotstable.
But documentation and code are all in the same directory.
Also pgfplots already has a comprehensive test suite but nobody knows how to run it.
It depends on ImageMagick to perform pixel comparison of output files.
Then there is also the pgfplots gallery...

7:58 PM
@HenriMenke I'd noticed
@HenriMenke I'd noticed
@HenriMenke Ooops
@HenriMenke Does Christian sort all of the releases?
@HenriMenke :)
@HenriMenke Did you notice it needs eforms to build the docs?

@JosephWright I've tried to run the testsuite before but could only get it to work on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS or something like that because there are some features of ImageMagick that have been removed or changed to fix different kinds of remote code execution vulnerabilities.
@JosephWright That's for the clickable plots.
But my GitHub Actions TeX Live setup pulls in tlcontrib.

@HenriMenke Sure, my point is it's not in TL :(

I've drafted GitHub Actions for last year's merge window but it didn't get in: github.com/pgf-tikz/pgfplots/pull/392

@HenriMenke Ah, that's problematic
@HenriMenke Hmm
@HenriMenke Perhaps this one needs more than a quick look

@Aditya I think Christian packs the TDS and CTAN archives by hand, so file permission errors easily slip in.

8:10 PM
@PauloCereda lol

@HenriMenke Quite true
@HenriMenke Do you want me to try to get this working with l3build? Or is it not worth it. I'm not sure I'll make the end of the week: FMi has tasks for me

@JosephWright I don't think it's realistic to get the done by the end of the week, including converting the testsuite and without that there is really not much of a point over my existing rudimentary Bash+Makefile wrapper in GitHub Actions.
I hope at least that gets in on this iteration.
Then I might also feel a little more compelled to actually look at bug reports for pgfplots.
@JosephWright However, if you feel like it, you are welcome to l3build-ify the other pgf-tikz repos: pgf-pie, pgf-umlcd, pgf-umlsd. That should be pretty straight-forward.
Also I'd like to get the l3build CTAN upload working.

@HenriMenke Ask @DavidCarlisle, he wrote that part
@HenriMenke OK, I might look at that
@HenriMenke Ah, sure

@JosephWright Another request for you would be to please give a talk about l3build at a future user group meeting. The only l3build resources I know of right now are the manual and 2014 TUGboat (which shows outdated syntax).

@HenriMenke Noted :)
@HenriMenke I'll think about an updated TUGboat
@HenriMenke There's a short section going into TLC3 :)

8:22 PM
@JosephWright TLC3?

@HenriMenke The LaTeX Companion, 3rd Ed.

@JosephWright When is going into print? Same time as LaTeX3 is released?
3

@HenriMenke :)
@HenriMenke Frank thinks it will be done around the summer

@JosephWright He didn't say what year.

@HenriMenke :)
@HenriMenke I've seen some of the drafts, I think it's going to be 2022
@HenriMenke I have to write some stuff, er, tomorrow
@HenriMenke All as PRs?

8:25 PM
@JosephWright Or just send me the build.lua files, so you don't have to sort out all the GitHub Actions workflow rubbish.

@HenriMenke I'll see how I get on :)

@JosephWright I could look... (@HenriMenke)

@JosephWright I like the TDS because it allows me to pop TEXMFHOME=/path/to/package and hack away but I'm not overly attached to it, so if it makes sense to flatten things out that's fine.
@DavidCarlisle I just need to know where those fields go inside build.lua: github.com/pgf-tikz/pgf/blob/master/.github/workflows/…

@HenriMenke I can work with lots of structures :)

@JosephWright because you're a chemist

8:34 PM
@DavidCarlisle Sounds about right

@JosephWright and with actions ;-)

l3build takeover it is

@JosephWright I still don't know. Is there now a new environment variable I can use to set the installation texmf?

@UlrikeFischer Not yet ... I guess for the next release
@UlrikeFischer I'd always just use --texmfhome (it's how I do the expl3 updates for LaTeX2e, for example)
@UlrikeFischer All the feature requests
@UlrikeFischer l3build was only meant to be a simply piece of Lua ;)

@JosephWright famous last words ...
@JosephWright well I currently install lots of packages with l3build install, it would be quite a nuisance to always have to give a root explicitly (quite apart that it would give a mess if I forget it, or use the wrong one).

8:55 PM
@HenriMenke I should test but untested I think you need a table like this in build.lua and then l3build upload --debug should do something reasonable (debug option makes it use a http POST echo service rather than CTAN)
uploadconfig = {

@JosephWright -- Please do.

@HenriMenke sort of tested ^^ it seems to have picked up an announcement and version number from the git repo, and has plausible entries for the rest
@HenriMenke although you might want to put all or some of those fields (especially the email), in a local lua file not under git so that anyone cloning the repository can't easily or accidentally upload to ctan.

@barbarabeeton First, stuff for Frank, @UlrikeFischer's feature requests, ...

@JosephWright ^^ Will's tryrequire feature request

9:15 PM
@DavidCarlisle Oh, that too
@DavidCarlisle I keep trying to recruit @PauloCereda, as he's from the Land of Lua, but he's a busy duck :(

@HenriMenke probably you know it already, but about the imagemagick permission problem... askubuntu.com/questions/1081895/…

@JosephWright @PauloCereda would rewrite the whole thing in kotlin

It's a kind of recurring thing in a lot of apps, I have to "fix" the policy files twice per year...

@DavidCarlisle Well yes but ...

@DavidCarlisle and add colors and birds to the docu ;-)

9:21 PM
@UlrikeFischer and rename it bowerbird or some such

9:37 PM
@JosephWright -- No problem (I hope). Deadline for the next issue isn't until the end of March.
@DavidCarlisle -- I'm kind of fond of the blue-footed booby.

@barbarabeeton I wanted something with a "build" connotation

10:14 PM
@DavidCarlisle -- Okay. I'll think of something. Some woodpeckers are very good carpenters. And eagles keep adding to their nests from year to year, until they're so big and heavy that they can even bring the tree down. (But mud dauber wasps might be even more relevant.) Beavers aren't birds, but they're great builders. I'll keep thinking.

@barbarabeeton I doubt the name will be used so don't think too hard:-)
