@MarcelKrüger don't think you need changes entries for this

I have a brain exercise for those who love both TeX and geometry. :-)

Q: How to find the location of $\frac{(H-h)(3H-2h)}{5(H+h)}$ only by using a compass and a straight edge?

Artificial StupidityI have two points on a number line $x$ and $x+h=H$. We are asked to mark the location of the third point $$ \frac{(H-h)(3H-2h)}{5(H+h)} $$ on the same number line but only by using a compass and a straight edge (a ruler without scales). How to do so?

Microsoft wants to buy TikTok... WHAT?!

9:42 AM
@JosephWright /poke

Microsoft wants to integrate TikTok into Github. :-)

10:40 AM
@ArtificialStupidity but why?

11:06 AM
@Skillmonlikestopanswers.xyz I don't know. :-)

11:16 AM
@ArtificialStupidity doesn't seem like a real deal, there is this repository which was last committed to 25 days ago and it doesn't tell anything about what its aims are: github.com/void206551/GitTok

11:29 AM
@Skillmonlikestopanswers.xyz: OK. It might be a joke.

12:18 PM
what type of font is texgyreheroscn-regular.otf?
never mind, it's the condensed font :)

@DavidCarlisle I don't understand :(

@Skillmonlikestopanswers.xyz @UlrikeFischer will help you.

@DavidCarlisle but you are the great linguist.

@UlrikeFischer naturally I can read it, but I am less helpful.

@ArtificialStupidity ?

1:15 PM
@DavidCarlisle His account is being suspended for 1 year.

@ArtificialStupidity yes that was obvious from the 1 in your link above but lots of people get suspended, I wondered why you flagged that one, from a different stackexchange group.

Sorry. No particular reason. :-)

Interesting..

1:44 PM
Why do people get suspended?

for violating the rules

Today the Swiss are celebrating their national holiday. Bär has risen to the occasion and has created a „Swiss line“ within his BearWear collection.

@UlrikeFischer ooh

Is the suspension decision public information? Can we read it somewhere?

@user12406990 no.

1:55 PM
@UlrikeFischer If you made a matching swiss army knife we could slice up the bear and have steak.
@user12406990 not exactly but only the general classification which is "low quality contributions" I know nothing about this case but math.stackexchange.com/users/175066/… shows more than a page of answers with negative total score

Interesting. Thanks!

2:30 PM
@UlrikeFischer Today is also World Scout Scarf Day

2:41 PM
@DavidCarlisle ^^^

@UlrikeFischer vvv

@DavidCarlisle you used my sword!

@UlrikeFischer :-)

@DavidCarlisle regarding swords: if we update pagesel to work with the new hooks, should it then be extracted from oberdiek?

oh my

2:59 PM
@ArtificialStupidity I did not hear about this, but quick lookup showed me complaints on another forum too, called Art of Problem Solving. (I attended their math forum for some years)

Question, I've been reading about hooks and the new implementation of this for several days. Will it affect the everyshi package? (for example)

@PauloCereda My wife has to rely on reading lips, quite a challenge with masks on

@StefanKottwitz oh :(

3:14 PM
@PauloCereda From my perspective there is only one mask and Anakin owns it :/

@PabloGonzálezL ooh you don't know the power of the dark side :)

@PauloCereda :-)

@PabloGonzálezL probably one for the team, but as far as I understand it, not for the end user, but the package will not really be loaded and instead the front-end macros will be defined to just use \AddToHook{<as appropriate>}{<stuff>}.

@PauloCereda luckily not needed in comics ;-)

@StefanKottwitz :)
@Skillmonlikestopanswers.xyz hi mr. rabbit!

3:18 PM
@PauloCereda Hi, Mr. Duck!

@Skillmonlikestopanswers.xyz <3

@Skillmonlikestopanswers.xyz I understand, I was thinking about tcolorbox, load it up behind the scenes, and it wouldn't be much fun to have a breakup here (as happened with srcfile a while ago for example)

@PauloCereda nice balls smiley ;-)

@PabloGonzálezL yes, the new latex emulates the everyshi commands and actively suppress the loading of the original package. It most cases users will not see any other effect, but in a few cases code have to be adjusted and we are currently notifying the package authors.

@Stefan sorry for the delay in replying to you, last days were hectic. Will try to reply either today or tomorrow...

3:22 PM
@PauloCereda no worries! real life and procrastination are the two important things, nothing inbetween ;-)

@UlrikeFischer Great, I was just thinking about tcolorbox and the xparse library and the environ package dependency (I think you can use +b instead), but, not all authors follow the LaTeX :(

@PabloGonzálezL I don't think that tcolorbox directly loads everyshi, but it loads pgf and this needs adjustment: github.com/pgf-tikz/pgf/issues/900

@UlrikeFischer I read sushi :)

@PabloGonzálezL but you can easily test for problems by running your document also with pdflatex-dev etc.

@UlrikeFischer Oh, I thought it was tcolorbox who was carrying the package :(
@UlrikeFischer And (relative to tcolorbox) it can be suggested to change environ to +b and to change the way it loads xparse. If I read correctly, it is not necessary to explicitly load xparse (only necessary if you use deprecated arguments)

3:36 PM
@StefanKottwitz Thank you for informing this. :-)

@UlrikeFischer that's what we said we'd do: pull any updated package out so I guess yes.

@PabloGonzálezL yes, but this not really a pressing issue. xparse isn't yet in the main latex, so loading it explicitly for now is fine.
@DavidCarlisle ok, you could create the new repo directly if you want.

@UlrikeFischer OK, one last query, ltfilehook is equivalent to the utilities provided by filehook/scrlfile?

@UlrikeFischer You can tell Henri it was your idea:-)

@DavidCarlisle do you think he is using pagesel somewhere?

3:44 PM
@UlrikeFischer no idea but I was thinking of this (actually a false description but whatever) listserv.uni-heidelberg.de/cgi-bin/…

@DavidCarlisle yes I know about the problem, just wondering if it would an actual problem here. But we can warn him before we update. It will take some days anyway until the last page problem is sorted out.
@DavidCarlisle I could add issue #1 "it doesn't work" ;-)

4:02 PM
@UlrikeFischer it's all yours (unless I forgot a step, seems a while since I was doing that every other day:-)

4:36 PM
@UlrikeFischer are these expected?

Oh it's just ! (../l3backend-pdfmode.def and TS1 showing in the log

@DavidCarlisle yes, at least in the one test. Should be ok, but I can check them later.
@DavidCarlisle but the package offers "wrappers around hooks", so I guess one should look what it actually does and perhaps update it too.

5:11 PM
@PabloGonzálezL not completly, not every command has been reimplemented. Better read the docu for the details.

Mac users: a bash script that I've been running for years now stopped working with the error Operation not permitted. I'm sure this is some weird MacOS security issue, but I didn't do anything that I know of to change things. (OS 10.14) Any suggestions?
It's not a path problem, because I'm running it from within the directory it is in.

@AlanMunn is it the script itself or a command it's running that is blocked?

@UlrikeFischer I was on it, I got stuck in "\CurrentFile (there is no expl3 name for it for now)" :) , the xsim package could remove a dependency with this new utility

@DavidCarlisle It's the script itself. If I run the command inside the script, it works.

5:29 PM
@DavidCarlisle new implemention of hopatch:
\NeedsTeXFormat{LaTeX2e}
\ProvidesPackage{hopatch}%
  [2020/08/01 v1.4 Wrapper for package hooks (HO)]
  \providecommand\IfFormatAtLeastTF{\@ifl@t@r\fmtversion}
\IfFormatAtLeastTF{2020/10/01}{}{\input{hopatch-2016-05-16.sty}}
\IfFormatAtLeastTF{2020/10/01}{}{\endinput}

\newcommand\hopatch@AfterPackage[1]{%
  \@ifpackageloaded{#1}{%
    \@firstofone
  }{%
    \AddToHook{package/after/#1}%
  }}

\endinput

@AlanMunn 10.13.6 here, how can I test and help?

@AlanMunn what does ls -l say, is the x-flag set for the user who should execute the script?

@DavidCarlisle ooh Oberdiek task force

@AlanMunn but does it throw the error on a specific line of the script (while executing that command), or before the script even really starts?

1 hour later…
7:10 PM
@UlrikeFischer yes I had a quick look before dinner and I assumed it was obsoleted, should I pull it out as well?

@DavidCarlisle I searched on ctan and found two packages using hopatch: hycolor and yathesis (from Dennis). So probably in a year or so one could simply remove it. But for now I would suggest to update as above (the code doesn't do exactly the same as the current hopatch, as it always execute directly after the package. The old code someone delayed until begin document, but imho it shouldn't really matter).

@UlrikeFischer in its own repo or update within oberdiek (I think pulling it out makes it easier to drop later)

@DavidCarlisle yes (but then we really need to warn Henry ;-))

7:30 PM
@UlrikeFischer done

@Skillmonlikestopanswers.xyz @PauloCereda Something weird with the MacOS "quarantine" attribute. Simply saving the script as a new file made it work. xatrr -l on the file shows com.apple.quarantine: 0086;5f25a06e;BBEdit; so I think somehow the OS got confused that BBEdit was using the file (which it was, but that has never been an issue before.)
@Skillmonlikestopanswers.xyz @PauloCereda And the new file is currently open in BBEdit, but the quarantine stuff doesn't show up. So I still don't really understand what happened.
@Skillmonlikestopanswers.xyz @PauloCereda Looking into this a bit more, it thinks that it's an executable by an unknown developer. :)

@AlanMunn you should have used emacs (@PauloCereda will confirm)

@DavidCarlisle I'll choose to ignore that remark. :) But independent of that, the file has been edited by BBEdit forever with no issues, and I have no idea what changed.

@DavidCarlisle I will look after dinner (and I won't tell what I'm cooking)

3 hours later…
10:54 PM
@DavidCarlisle this hopatch tests are mad, they sat all sorts of chars to invalid and so they now all break because the file changes. I will look tomorrow how to adapt them.
