Quack!

@PauloCereda <insert sound of a rabbit here>

@Skillmon ooh a rabbit :)

1 hour later…
9:57 AM
@StrongBad Thanks for your suggestion. I considered that, however I doubt the question would be useful for future visitors of this site, as the body of the question does not have any relation to the problem.

10:30 AM
@CarLaTeX Dearest finally here came the rain after a dry month. Now I have a free hour and afterwards I will continue until 14:10 for Mathematics and Physics.
@Moriambar All right apart from the extreme tiredness of research and the lessons of Mathematics and Physics. They are very good educated guys but they study very little.
@CarLaTeX Can I ask you a question? How does the system no longer give me the chance "Approve or reject 100 suggested edits"? Before I had the chance I always stayed at 77
@egreg @DavidCarlisle @PauloCereda @ChristianHupfer @JosephWright, @StefanPinnow @Ignasi Good morning everyone from Sicily. Here the weather is bad and finally after a month it rains. So I eat all the fresh seasonal fruit. I prefer red oranges :-)
@TeXnician, @TorbjørnT., @Andrew, @Bernard @Mico Good morning also to you.
@Johannes_B Hi, and good work

10:54 AM
@Sebastiano I don't know, perhaps you have reached 100 edits

11:06 AM
@Sebastiano You can choose which badge to track by clicking the cog wheel.

@CarLaTeX no :(

3 hours later…
2:06 PM
So @DavidCarlisle is using MINIX. :)
Also, quack!

@PauloCereda I am, yes. (I got fed up of using GEORGE on the ICL 1900) but is that a reference to dr who?

@DavidCarlisle: and Tanenbaum is mad: cs.vu.nl/~ast/intel :)
Isn't this the bloke from the German Christmas song?
Das Tanenbaum, das Tanenbaum, la la la la kartoffel
Something along those lines. :)

@PauloCereda ooh an embedded web server, if only we'd have gotten texlive embedded in hardwear...
@PauloCereda too many spaces

@PauloCereda The background music for your next video talk?

@StefanKottwitz ooh I could give a Christmas talk about TeX!

2:13 PM
@PauloCereda I have some macros....

@DavidCarlisle I blame Joseph for this
@DavidCarlisle ooh and a partridge in a pear tree?
@DavidCarlisle: I believe this video predates your joining in this site: vimeo.com/33923293

where is @egreg? we need an answer posting on the main site
you have redefined \normalsize to add six spaces every time it is used. add % to the end of each line in the definition. — David Carlisle 37 secs ago

2:40 PM
@DavidCarlisle You, surprisingly, have found out the issue. ;-)

2:51 PM
@samcarter: Any further 'squeeze the elephant into a suitcase' questions? ;-)

3:02 PM
@samcarter it was more the user is breaking the rules and should be warned. Also you wrote an answer that you think has value. We don't want to lose those contributions

1 hour later…
4:32 PM
\RequirePackage{iftex} \RequireLuaTeX
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{fontspec,unicode-math}
\setmainfont{STIX Two Text}
\setmathfont{STIX Two Math}
\begin{document}
Surprise: $1\not\to0$.
\end{document}
Well, that surprised me, at any rate.

Any font experts around?
I'm trying to figure out which serif font gets called under \usepackage{tgheros}
and how to use one TeX Gyre font for serif and a different one for sans

Well, tracing it, I see all sorts of expl3 stuff that I don't know how to read. Perhaps I need to ask a Question.

@HaraldHanche-Olsen I'd quack in despair. :)

@PauloCereda :) It typesets \mathchar"3236. That much I can read, at least.
@PauloCereda Well, heading home now; will investigate/quack/ask more later.

4:47 PM
@HaraldHanche-Olsen Have a nice return back home!

@PauloCereda Thanks. It's close enough to walk. No shaky bus for me!

@HaraldHanche-Olsen \not coming out as 6 is a recurring feature with unicode-math

@DavidCarlisle Aha. Any known cure?

@HaraldHanche-Olsen Unicode is mean no idea. :)

@PauloCereda Heh. Well, now I am really going. As I said, no shaky bus, but perhaps shaky legs: There is a possibility of ice on the road.

4:57 PM
@HaraldHanche-Olsen Our two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency

@DavidCarlisle And nobody expects it. :)

@PauloCereda speaking of which did you notice my mastery of Spanish an an answer this afternoon?

@DavidCarlisle no, link please. :)

@HaraldHanche-Olsen I know this. I only need to find the right posting. Ah @DavidCarlisle already found it.

A: How to use authblk in spanish?

David CarlisleThe german option of the package just does \DeclareOption{german}{\renewcommand\Authand{, und }% \renewcommand\Authands{, und }} But that is the only language option provided. So in the preamble after loading the package you can do \renewcommand\Authand{, y } \renewcom...

5:02 PM
@DavidCarlisle Classy answer. :)

@RilinShen no the latex format date on the lines after that , something like LaTeX2e <2017-12-01> patch level 99 ` — David Carlisle 22 secs ago

@ChristianHupfer None that I know of, but I was not really around the main site today, so who knows?
@StrongBad I wrote a flag and described the situation. Let's see

any miktex users around to give a better comment here:
I don't use miktex but if you update the system in the miktex package manager you will get a format from 2017 not 2011 — David Carlisle 1 min ago

@DavidCarlisle difficult without more data. There could be any mix of old and new packages and the format could be in the user tree or the admin tree.

@UlrikeFischer yes:-)

5:19 PM
@DavidCarlisle I just got a document (from a lyx document) with graphic pathes like this \string"Abbildungen/XYZ 1.0/abc cde 1.0\string".jpg. But got only complains because of the dot (and grffile with multidot help).

@UlrikeFischer you should be using:

@RilinShen no the latex format date on the lines after that , something like LaTeX2e <2017-12-01> patch level 99 ` — David Carlisle 22 secs ago

@DavidCarlisle will it handle this \string"...\string" thing?

5:35 PM
Is here a bibdesk user somewhere?

Hey again all, I have another semi-weekly "I don't understand how this works" query
I'm trying to overlay a PDF to fill in a form using this answer of Martin's
Is there a way I can make the node coordinates relative to the top-left of the page, rather than the bottom-left?
(MWE is basically his MWE- I'm starting with that to see how it works)
changing \shift={(current page.south west)} to north.west didn't work as expected, so I am wondering if the anchor is the one to change (which would make sense given the meaning of anchor)

5:58 PM
@DavidCarlisle Thanks, that did it. Anyhow, I had forgotten about \nrightarrow. And I see that I can use builtin magic: \newcommand\nto{\nrightarrow}, and then \not\to uses it.

6:27 PM
@UlrikeFischer I expect so (I assume that's just there to avoid babel shortcuts)

@DavidCarlisle Yes, but as you planed to integrate the quotes I was wondering if "double" quoting would led to problems.

@UlrikeFischer not sure (final version't not integrated yet so still some variability, certainly the macros need to remove any " before adding the outer ones, so it's a matter of whether you do that before or after expanding the \string...

3 hours later…
9:18 PM
@DavidCarlisle You should consider doing an art exhibition - there are so many great works on this site :)

A: svg package in xelatex

David CarlisleYou don't say what error you got, this worked for me with xelatex --shell-escape \documentclass{article} \usepackage{svg} \usepackage{fontspec} \setmainfont{Arial} \begin{document} a Á Γ → \fbox{\includesvg{drawing.svg}} \end{document} In case you feel inspired by the artwork and wish to...

@samcarter I'm expecting a call from tate modern
