@DavidCarlisle ^^^ :-)

yo'
9:51 AM
@PauloCereda Yes, Sir!

1 hour later…
11:19 AM
All checks passed
@DavidCarlisle, @naphaneal ^^^ :-)
@naphaneal Just to point out there are tests already (at least for the kernel)

yo'
@JosephWright Party time?

1 hour later…
12:45 PM
@JosephWright @DavidCarlisle microtype doesn't recognize luatex ("Package microtype Warning: You don't seem to be using either pdftex, luatex, or xetex.") (Does a test for \pdftexversion, work if one loads luatex85).

ok, I give up. I get this error with only tex4ht and not with pdflatex and I am not able to figure where it coming from. It says /usr/local/texlive/2015/texmf-dist/tex/latex/caption/ltcaption.sty just before the error, and then it says:
*geometry* driver: auto-detecting
*geometry* detected driver: dvips
! Missing $ inserted.
<inserted text>
$
l.273 \EndPreamble

but when I look at my latex file, at line 273, I do not see any problem there. there is not even any math there. This is line 273 in my latex
I think this is a bug in tex4ht if you ask me. It only happens by random.

@UlrikeFischer Not surprising: needs a prod I guess (why doesn't it just look for \directlua?)

and here is line 273 in the latex file.

@JosephWright It starts the test with \pdftexversion to get "pdftex or luatex" and then continues with a test for \directlua.

@UlrikeFischer Yes, know, but testing for the used primitives directly is often the best way :-)
@UlrikeFischer Easily fixable, anyway

12:54 PM
@JosephWright @DavidCarlisle Error with pgf/tikz:
! Package pgf Error: Driver file ``pgfsys-luatex.def'' not found..
Imho a side effect from the driver change in graphics as pgf does this here
\def\pgfutil@guessdriver{
  \ifx\HCode\@undefined%
    \edef\pgfsysdriver{pgfsys-\Gin@driver}% should be right
  \else%
    \def\pgfsysdriver{pgfsys-tex4ht.def}% should be right
  \fi%
}
@JosephWright The problem is more the nesting of the tests.

1:22 PM
Anybody willing to upvote tex.stackexchange.com/questions/302921/… so we can invite the OP to the chat? A couple of votes should suffice, IIRC

2:08 PM
I found the problem! I had underscore in the title !! tex4ht fails when there is _ in the title of the document, but lualatex has no problem with it (I get no error from lualatex). very strange. any way, I removed the _ (was a typo anyway) and now tex4ht compiles it ok. more than one hour it took to find this.

2:29 PM
@UlrikeFischer I've already warned the TikZ team about that one (though had no reply)

@JosephWright \def\pgfsysdriver{pgfsys-pdftex.def} early enough works fine. I guess you already warned Heiko that ifpdf doesn't work correctly if one doesn't load luatex85?

@UlrikeFischer Oh yes
@UlrikeFischer Will email about that

2:49 PM
I am looking for a package that can read in a vcard (or some other address card format) and make the data accessible via macros. Any ideas?

3:02 PM
@StrongBad How does a vcard look like?

@egreg usually a csv

3:41 PM
@naphaneal @StrongBad if it is just a csv format, then datatool should be able to handle it

@DavidCarlisle -- i think you should be interested in the comments posted to this question: tex.stackexchange.com/q/302809/579 (and you might also want to point frank in that general direction as well.)

4:19 PM
@daleif the issue is there are tons of fields and writing parsing code would be difficult.

@StrongBad well, it would also be difficult for someone else to do it.

@daleif that is why if someone has created a package, I want to use it.

@egreg Looks like the Mac binary updates are in :-)

@JosephWright Interesting.
@JosephWright Started install

5:02 PM
Installing [1621/3217, time/total: 28:20/56:03]: latex [12692k]

@DavidCarlisle Could one extend xr to read more specific lines from an external aux-file (I want to read in lines like \savepointas{b}{pgfid2} and \pgfsyspdfmark {pgfid1}{7922962}{34719456}. Or do you know some package which could do this?

5:33 PM
Just wondering, every time I compile my dissertation the previewed pdf starts at a specific page, not Page 1. Is there any hidden bookmark on TexStudio or anything similar?

Installing [3217/3217, time/total: 01:02:33/01:02:33]: zxjatype [142k]
Time used for installing the packages: 62:34

thats over one hour! quite a lot

@G.Bay It's a 4.3 GiB install and the server I fetched TL from is not among the fastest.

yo'
@G.Bay for installing about 4G of data? not so quite :)
@G.Bay ummmm ..... yes, obviously? :D

lol, I thought it was 142k, lmao

yo'
5:41 PM
@G.Bay only the last package. You see, there's 3217 of them (of varying size of course)

> luatex --version
This is LuaTeX, Version beta-0.95.0 (TeX Live 2016)

Thing in texstudio is that I dont have any bookmarks on my documents, but still when I compile main... shows me a specific page, weird.

yo'
@egreg I should do that too, to break all my code :D

@G.Bay Perhaps some setting for hyperref?

@egreg Maybe, but i'm looking at the code and there's nothing special, except some chemical reactions
Opening in external viewer is ok, shows me first page as usual

yo'
5:45 PM
@G.Bay does it open on the page that corresponds to the position in your code? If so, it could be synctex

@yo' It's a multiple file document, subfile package, and the preview opens on a specific page when I compile the main. Let me google that synctex

6:10 PM
@yo' oh, thats a nice feature if I remove the -synctex=1 it doesn't load to that specific page... so I think you hit the spot. Now i need to figure it out how to fix.

6:24 PM
@egreg welcome to my world
@UlrikeFischer I found out the other day @egreg had copied xr to copy citations possibly could think of a more generic scheme. Often of course you could just input the external aux file rather then selecting individual commands, it all depends..

6:49 PM
@DavidCarlisle I don't dare to input the aux -- to many side effects possible.

yo'
@UlrikeFischer create your own auxiliary file then?

@yo' The commands are from pgf/tikzmark. I'm trying to reproduce positions from one document in another.

yo'
@UlrikeFischer ah ok. Well, then maybe extract only the necessary lines using an external tool like sed?

1 hour later…
8:25 PM

yo'
(removed)

yo'
@ChristianHupfer cat xii.tex

@yo': Another ORLY book will have Jar Jar Binks on the front cover ;-)

@yo' so rude

yo'
8:31 PM
@DavidCarlisle me? rude? why would you think so...

@yo' If you were a linguist like me used to many languages you would not find the plain TeX style hard to read just because you are more used to latex.

@yo': My personal favorite ;-)

@ChristianHupfer ^^^ Look at that.

@Johannes_B crosspost: tex.stackexchange.com/questions/303235/compile-timed-out

@UlrikeFischer Nice. I like crossposts. Thanks for reporting.

8:40 PM
@Johannes_B Which error message?

@egreg is that from the pretest (I just updated from cstug and binary is still 0.80?)

@ChristianHupfer a message from sharelatex.

@Johannes_B Ah, I spot the error: Using ShareLaTeX is the error ;-)

@ChristianHupfer Not really. Those online editors are actually quite good. Sure, you can confuse them, but that is a user fault.

@Johannes_B I don't like them

8:47 PM
@ChristianHupfer i don't use them.

@Johannes_B My line implies your one (for me) ;-)

@ChristianHupfer I think implying that by using an online editor and templates you can get started more easily with LaTeX is wrong. The more users with a low understanding, the more bad code will distribute.

@Johannes_B I don't think that some large image is the problem -- I doubt the user is able to create one -- imho it is faulty code, e.g, I can see two \begin{cases} and no \end{cases}.

@Johannes_B Yes, users share bad LaTeX

@DavidCarlisle Yes, pretest

8:52 PM
@UlrikeFischer Surely. The guys from sharelatex will look at the problem and correct it. and the user is satisfied. A support site like this one (or LC) depends on the info the OP gives, which will be stressing for the OP and any helpers leading to frustration. I think, from a UX POV just hitting the direct and on site help button is better than asking here.

@egreg maybe I just need to wait a bit cstug is showing 16 hours on tug.org/texlive/mirmon

@ChristianHupfer Can i get that email address? shareBadLatex@terror.org?

@Johannes_B I would be careful with terror addresses ;-)

@DavidCarlisle Maybe the binaries for cygwin have not yet been updated

@egreg yes I wondered about that, anyway I'm at my parents sorting out real life so can't do much with it this weekend anyway.

2 hours later…
10:36 PM
@egreg \nosomething :-) thanks

@DavidCarlisle \noexpand\begin{tabular} looked funny. ;-)

@egreg mind not really on tex today..
