@ArthurReutenauer ah, OK, or presumably you just make the user specify it as in classic tex/dvips. OK agreed then you could credibly claim xetex could be built under the mit licence, just the texlive (and probably other) build is gpl's due to gpl extensions, at least credibly enough not to worry about it at this hour:-)

How to delete a chat room for which I am the owner?

5 hours later…
6:11 AM
@Amar I don't think you can.

yo'
@Amar abandon it, it'll freeze and eventually get deleted.

@TorbjørnT.@yo' :D that's so weird! top of the morning to ya!

yo'
@Amar I'm in a hurry so I can't explain you the reasons behind now. See you maybe tomorrow evening (or not)

6:26 AM
@yo' sure! carry on.

@Amar You can probably find a few posts on meta.stackexchange.com about this, for example

A: How do you delete a room on chat

Mechanical snailProvided that the room had less than 15 messages or fewer than 2 users that posted, it will get deleted automatically if it is inactive for 7 days. You thus don't have to do anything (other than not post) to get it deleted. If you need to ensure deletion of a room you own, you could set the chat...

@TorbjørnT. oh! thanks, I will have a look at it later.

@DavidCarlisle He's already on 140

Joseph Wright has added an event to this room's schedule.

@ChristianHupfer I thought the answers might be interesting for you. I don't know if there is a button, but you can for sure ask @StefanKottwitz to delete your account. But why?

@Johannes_B I don't need the account

@ChristianHupfer Ok.
Took me a while to answer that one :-/

@Johannes_B I hope the OP knows how to appreciate your effort. I've done already ;-)

@ChristianHupfer That took me quite a while yesterday evening.
I love and hate biblatex

10:12 AM
@DavidCarlisle Something like that, yes :-)

@Johannes_B: I am quite glad that I don't need references really.

10:23 AM
@StefanKottwitz I know get the message Bei einem neuen Thema musst du einen Titel angeben. when editing a user post. The same happens when trying to split a topic or sending a PM. Is there some error on my side?
@StefanKottwitz Ok, this time the title was simply deleted and there really was no title. Annoying anyway. :-)

Q: Useful StackApps and other User Scripts for TeX.SX

Martin ScharrerSome people might not know it, but on http://stackapps.com/ there are several applications / user scripts available which makes certain tasks easier for moderators and other users which often post helpful comments. I like to point out some of them here. Feel free to post other ones as answer pos...

The select code script stopped working a while ago, but i never had the time to investigate. I checked, it is enabled and the other scripts work just fine. Could this be a version thing?

@DavidCarlisle -- unfortunately, i have no control over whether amsmath is overhauled. goodness knows, i've complained about it often and loudly enough, but my opinion doesn't cut water with management, who have other priorities. you and @egreg and @Frank Mittelbach will all be at the tug meeting. maybe the three of you together could come up with an approach to management that says ams reputation is failing badly without this update. worth a try?

@barbarabeeton could try... (but meanwhile I'll just continue to blame you for anything that comes up, it's easier that way)
@barbarabeeton I gather you allow mathtools in ams publications? so how bad would it be if mathtools stopped importing amsmath math and just forked its own version (or imported it but redefined even more) so rather like xcolor effectively replacing color even though there was no official change to the core?

@barbarabeeton We can try.
Currently on: J. S. Bach's “Magnificat”, BWV 243

12:24 PM
@egreg and @DavidCarlisle -- thanks much. regarding mathtools, yes, that's allowed in ams publications, and works very nicely. in fact, i'm currently rebuilding the ams test file testmath.tex using it. i would seriously discourage forking it though; that would make it unworkable in ams pubs. but threatening to do so might spur the ams management to action.
what i'd really like to see is to be able to adopt most, if not all, of mathtools into amsmath (with morten's approval, of course). there are a couple of other packages that purport to "correct" amsmath, and they should be looked at as well. i started making a list long ago; i'll now give it some serious thought.
@egreg -- at least you have some good music to listen to. (at the last election here, i wasn't able to sit down -- literally! -- from the time i arrived at 6 a.m. until after the polls closed and the machine was cleared at about 9 p.m. the next day, i could barely stand at all, but no day off from work.)

Hey could anyone elaborate on the relation between the chosen encoding file *.enc in otftotfm and the font encoding which I declare in for instance my font definition file (like T1, TS1, etc.)
I couldn't get your suggestion to work @DavidCarlisle, in regard to tweaking the map file to get the right glyphs (honestly I couldn't find any reference to what you mean and otftotfm uses "AutoEnc", which isn't mentioned anywhere in the answers, which instead uses syntaxes such as "ReEncodefont", which I reckon is related to the difference between starting from afm files or otf files

@barbarabeeton Sitting down is not really an option also here, unless in periods of low turnout

12:40 PM
@egreg -- have you got any good, but unobtrusive exercises, to keep one's knees from locking up? (i gather the voters are not excited about today's election.)

@barbarabeeton yes threat was mainly what I was thinking about, although to be honest mathtools could probably redefine an awful lot of amsmath before anyone noticed;-)

@barbarabeeton Knees are not a problem; the heels are sending signals, instead.

@DavidCarlisle -- true enough about the redefinition, but even so, it would make production much more problematic here, as the (better) copyeditors do notice small inconsistencies that i wouldn't, and tracking down the reason is often very time consuming. (a couple of days ago, it took nearly half an hour to figure out that a questionable definition was actually coming from our own local config file for a document class.)

@barbarabeeton yes I know that problem:-)

@egreg -- ah. (for me, between peripheral neuropathy and birkenstocks, my feet don't usually tell me anything useful.)

12:45 PM
Now Haydn's symphony 104

@1010011010 OT1=7r T1=8r is that what you are asking?

@egreg -- too bad i don't have a feed to your audio channel. oh, well, i'll turn on some prokofiev.

@DavidCarlisle As argument to calling otftotfm there's a feature -e
It sets the encoding file

@barbarabeeton What? I suggest some Corelli, instead.

@egreg -- but at the moment, i need help staying awake. may i compromise with vivaldi?

1:00 PM
@barbarabeeton Allowed.

or --encoding=<encoding file> is the same thing i guess

2:00 PM
@egreg: we sang this today for the Feast of the Holy Trinity! youtube.com/watch?v=zlq3KNifXkw Not in German of course. :)

2:23 PM
@barbarabeeton As one of the package maintainers who's dissatisfied with the current status of AMS' TeX packages, I'd be more than happy to join the chorus to complain to the AMS management. I've been on this situation often enough and I sympathise completely.

@ArthurReutenauer -- thanks! i figure that "high-status" mathematicians are most likely to have the greatest effect, but every voice helps. i think the "attack" will best be made through the elected officers, not necessarily to the local management, and it would be best to keep my name off such a request. i'll try to arrive in darmstadt with some solid suggestions.

@DavidCarlisle: are you around?

3:19 PM
@PauloCereda off and on:-)

@SeanAllred what is that?

@DavidCarlisle Mail sent. :)

@ArthurReutenauer if the AMS attitude to their TeX packages is anything like their attitude to their desktops/workstations, I shudder to think.

@egreg
Any opera allowed? I went to see
La Bohème yesterday :-)

@ArthurReutenauer I prefer Firefox. :)
@ArthurReutenauer ooh awesome. :)

3:36 PM
I am playing with fontspec and OPentypeFonts, is there any CLI or GUI tool showing a verbose list of OpenType features?

@FaheemMitha I've never watched it (I don't watch TV, save Netflix), but it's a show called 'Community'

@SeanAllred Oh, I've heard of that one. Thanks.

4:13 PM
Going to ask for a second TUG2015 talk

There is most certainly somebody here that can tell me how I can store lists of boxes?

@PauloCereda replied:-)
@1010011010 in a box

@DavidCarlisle Got it, thank you! :)

@PauloCereda firefox moaned about it being an untrusted site then it moaned even more about jar files being scary, but I clicked "I understand the risks" and it believed me...

@DavidCarlisle <3 I'm a trusted source. :)

4:25 PM
@PauloCereda I think running programs that grab all your environment settings are exactly the kind of thing they are warning about:-)

@DavidCarlisle Educational purposes? :)
@DavidCarlisle: you are the one who broke arara in the first place for not using a proper operating system. :P

@PauloCereda I do use a proper operating system, the problem is that I run a linux emulation over the top of it

@DavidCarlisle :)

@barbarabeeton Let's discuss that in Darmstadt.
@PauloCereda Good one :-)

@ArthurReutenauer Sounds good: meeting is looking excellent

4:36 PM
@JosephWright I won't be there. :(
All raise! Heiko is here. :)

@ArthurReutenauer -- that's my intention. i think it may be better not on the formal schedule (i.e., not as a bof) so it doesn't get reported or a report published. i'll make a list of the "likely suspects" and let you know who they are, since you've expressed a strong interest in making it happen. (and thanks.)

5:00 PM
@DavidCarlisle well imagine I wanted to create the list, I could just do \expandafter\def\expandafter\mylist\expandafter{\mylist\box0} or something along those lines, but I could still not affect the order in which they are typeset (I can only typeset everything I guess)

@1010011010 it's not at all clear what you want, do you want a macro that holds a list of csname tokens referring to box registers (like \@deferrlist) or do you want a list of boxes which you would store in a box not a macro, and take apart with \lastbox (as done for teh list of length two in that marginpar code)

@DavidCarlisle If there was a way to take it apart with an operation named \firstbox then we'd be done. I guess that sums it up.
\mylist holds e.g. \box0,\box1,\box2, etc. which are all different, then typeset again in the same order of declaration, so \box0,\box1\box2 in the document
Where is this \@deferrlist defined? Not in the format? I couldn't find anything in google either

@ChristianHupfer Beat me by a fraction of a second with tex.stackexchange.com/q/503/17423 :)

@SeanAllred: I used tachyons to be faster than you :-P I anticpated your comment

@ChristianHupfer physics-cheater

5:10 PM
@SeanAllred: I am a physicist, I may ch(e)at that way :D

@ChristianHupfer XD

@SeanAllred: I was in a bad movie at the cinema yesterday evening, where they used tachyons: A world beyond ....
@SeanAllred: Oh, supper time here ... continue later on

@ChristianHupfer enjoy :)

@1010011010 it's defined in latex format the main list that controls the float algorithm, but that is a list of csnames each pointing at a box register, not a list of boxes.
@1010011010 if you know you need to take the first rather than last, store the boxes as a vertical list with a \break penalty between each then you can access the first by \vsplit to 0pt

@DavidCarlisle Hmm now that you mention it, I suppose a csname pointing to a box register has preference.

5:43 PM
Thanks @barbarabeeton

@DavidCarlisle \@currbox is the same as \lastbox?

@1010011010 no \@currbox is a latex defined csname (actually defined with \countdef) \lastbox is a tex primitive

Couldn't find it anywhere...

@DavidCarlisle Following the galley discussion?

@JosephWright to an extent

5:51 PM
@DavidCarlisle Have requested a second talk at TUG2015

6:10 PM
@michal.h21 if you are around, I have small question please. In the email about "Cannot determine size of graphic in svg graphics" on the tex4ht mailing list. You said first if I always use "\includegraphics[width=something]{imagename}" then I do not need to make .xbb for each svg? Then in next answer when I showed the error, you said I need to create a .xbb for each svg. So I am confused. I thought it is easier to ask you here for clarification.
Here is the thread for your information tug.org/pipermail/tex4ht/2015q2/001163.html

6:30 PM
@Nasser you need .xbb if you don't specify the image width, but when you specify the width, you don't need to know the image dimensions, specified size is used

6:41 PM
@michal.h21 Thanks, but I am using this

\documentclass[12pt]{article}
\usepackage{graphicx}
\begin{document}
\includegraphics[width=0.1\paperwidth]{2}
\end{document}

Is the above not specifying image width?
The reason I am asking, is that ebb -x foo.pdf does _not_ work on all pdf. I get errors on someof them
>ebb -x p1.pdf

ebb:warning: Streams with DecodeParms not supported.
ebb:warning: Cannot parse cross-reference stream.
ebb:warning: Error while parsing PDF file.
ebb:warning: ./p1.pdf does not look like a PDF file...

So I need to avoid using .xbb files.

@Nasser so you need to specify the size for such images, and leave it for images that works

@michal.h21 so you are saying that \includegraphics[width=0.1\paperwidth]{2} does not specify image size? that is why I still need .xbb? In this case, this will not work for me I am afraid, since many pdf files do not work with ebb -x.

@Nasser no it is specifying the size, you don't need to use xbb for that

@michal.h21 Ok, I am more confused now. But this is what I said. It fails without .xbb as I said in the mailing list. I get
l.6 --- TeX4ht warning --- Cannot determine size of graphic in 2.svg (no Boundi
ngBox) ---

then you said I need .xbb in the mailing list. I was following your instructions.
@michal.h21 here is the mail for your information
http://tug.org/pipermail/tex4ht/2015q2/001164.html
So the question is, if \includegraphics[width=0.1\paperwidth]{2} _does_ specify image size, why do I get TeX4ht warning --- Cannot determine size of graphic in 2.svg (no Boundi
ngBox) ---
?

@Nasser it doesn't specify the natural size of the image (which is what is needed) width= is a scale operation to scale from the natural size to the requested size, but that means that either the system needs to be able to determine the natural size, or you need to specify it with eg bb= 0 0 200 700 or whatever

6:56 PM
@Nasser you get this message, but it should work if you have right configuration for image inclusion. see tex.stackexchange.com/a/213165/2891 for some helper macros

@DavidCarlisle I see, thanks. So since I use "width=scale\paperwidth" for all my images, it means that I still need .xbb. OK. But this is a big problem, since ebb -x image.pdf does not work for number of pdf files I have. Please see error above.
Can I ask question on the main site about the ebb errors I am getting? Is this latex related?
@michal.h21 thanks for the link. I am looking at it. But it shows the example doing \includegraphics[width=600pt]{figs/toc} I do not want to hardcode the size. I want to use scale. After I get the warning with \includegraphics[width=scale\paperwidth]{2}, the image is not scaled in the HTML. I do not want to use hard coded size. Will the macros you show in your link resolved this issue or does one still need to use hardcoded specific size?

@Nasser it should work, at least it works on my test files

@michal.h21 Ok, I will try it now. I assume you mean this macro:
\Configure{graphics*}
{svg}
{\Picture[pict]{\csname Gin@base\endcsname.svg
\space style="width:\CalcRem{\Gin@req@width}em;"
}%
\special{t4ht+@File: \csname Gin@base\endcsname.svg}
}

Your code is too advanced for me, I just copy it and paste it, I really do not know what it does. Will try it. I hope it works, I want to avoid using .xbb files.

@Nasser yes, I mean this. plus definition of \CalcRem macro

7:11 PM
@michal.h21 it worked!! You are genius. I still get the warning, but it does scale ok in the HTML ! I will now try this in my main .cfg and build. This is great, now I do not need to make .eps files and will just use pdf and svg and remove the extension from the image file when including it. This simplifies things alot. thanks again for your help.

@Nasser OK, feel free to also describe your setup on the mailing list, so it is not lost

@michal.h21 I am making one self contained document that describes all of this, and how to use make4ht and all these things and will add it to my tex4ht cheat sheet. Ofcourse will reference your help there. There are too many little things to get right, and we really do not have one self contained document that explains all these in one place, so this is what I am working on now. Will email you link when done so you review it.

@Nasser it sounds nice, let me know then

@michal.h21 sure will do. thanks again.
