Q: Was Robert's rebellion built on a lie?

In S7E7: Per my understanding it was not. Robert and Starks were not aware about this. Ned only came to know (If Lyanna told him all) only in the end of the war and others were never aware. I know books have not gone that far but it will be fine if answer can provide context from the books.

@Skooba Because Martin dwelled into High Famtasy with them. Everything else is just a Middle Age Tale + Dragons. In High Fantasy, just say that the evil god is responsible for that. No need explaining. Martin's has probably noticed this misery: His fans want to know why and won't accept a Tolkien-esque that's just how it is. This is my theory why he hasn't finished the books yet.

Probaby it's just a small disagreement with the children of the forest or one thing similar that states the whole thing. As to why they exist, I don't need an explanation. At some point, you just have to accept the existance of fantastic beings (or invoke a god)

@Skooba But to be honest, the show runners have done a lot right so far. And although the new seasons are criticised heavily, they are suited for the more general audience GoT has received. Meanwhile, fantasy literature is still mostly read by us stereotypical nerds who don't bother reading a Silmarillion
