@KrishnShweta @SwiftPushkar You can start chat-room for your (personal) discussion. The topic of this rooms is discussion related to Hindu_Philosophy.
@KeshavSrinivasan ok; I'll... By the way I've just edited the question by removing "s" followed by vedanta-schools. (Unnecessary plural like Vishishtadvaitas).
10:33
@Pandya Hi :)
@William Yes. People used to follow them in Ancient India. Dharmic life, Dharmic Artha (Righteous earning), Dharmic Kama (fulfilling desires with Righteousness) and Moksha (mingling with eternal truth). Nowadays, people hardly follow this.

@KeshavSrinivasan Have you any information/idea about hinduism.stackexchange.com/q/14808/277?
By the way What do you think about Vedanta without Brahman Sutra? /cc @Tezz @TheDestroyer
From wikipedia:
> However, the cryptic nature of aphorisms of the Brahma Sutras have resulted in the formation of numerous Vedanta schools, each interpreting the texts in its own way and producing its own commentary.
14:05
@KeshavSrinivasan Do you know where Markandeya and Shiva story is mentioned in Puranas?
15:02
@Pandya Look at what Wikipedia says: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adi_Shankara#Works "Shankara also authored Upadesasahasri, his most important original philosophical work. Of other original Prakaranas (प्रकरण, monographs, treatise), seventy six works are attributed to Adi Shankara. Modern era Indian scholars such as Belvalkar as well as Upadhyaya accept five and thirty nine works respectively as authentic."
@Pandya So scholars say that somewhere between 5 and 39 of the 76 Prakarana works are authentic.
15:30
@TheDestroyer The story of Shiva saving Markandeya from Yama isn't mentioned in any Puranas, it's just a folk tale. The only Puranas that even mentions Shiva appearing before Markandeya is the Srimad Bhagavatam: vedabase.com/en/sb/12/10 But it doesn't mention Shiva saving him from Yama or anything.
@TheDestroyer The main story involving Markandeya that does have a basis in Hindu scripture is the story of him witnessing the Mahapralaya and seeing Vishnu floating on a banyan leaf.
@TheDestroyer However the Skanda Purana does have a story where Shiva rescues the king Shweta from Yama by killing Yama and then bringing Yama back to life. That's the closest thing to the Markandeya story that appears in Hindu scripture.
15:47
@TheDestroyer By the way, here is the temple where Shiva is supposed to have rescued Markandeya:
Thirukkadaiyur (Thirukadavur) is a temple town on the east coast of Tamil Nadu, about 300 km south of Chennai and 15 km north of Karaikal. The original temple, Thirukkadaiyur Mayanam now called Thirumeignanam, built in c. 11th century, was ravaged by sea and is in ruins now. Another temple on an identical plan was built later and is now worshiped by people who pray for long life. == Legend == === Mrikandu === This is one of the holy places of Saivism today. Legend has it that Mrikandu, a sage and devotee of Lord Siva, prayed to God to bless him with a son. God appeared and gave him a ch...

@KeshavSrinivasan ohh.. How can such a famous story not even mentioned in Puranas?
@KeshavSrinivasan Actually, Chaganti says that "Shiva gives boon to Markendeya that he looks like a 16 yr old all time" but Yama misheard it as "He lives only for 16 yrs". So, i want to know Sanskrit verses.
@KeshavSrinivasan He says some Telugu Poem but i don't know where it is mentioned. It was classical Telugu and i hardly understood that verse.
@KeshavSrinivasan I think there is also a Temple in kerala.
16:31
@Pandya Well, I want to know which of my message made you think that I need a "chat-room" for my personal discussion? And I know the meaning of Hindu Philosophy.
@TheDestroyer Well, it's not mentioned in Hindu scripture, so you won't find it in Sanskrit verses.
@Pandya I agree that I ask about where they(users) live, what they do, which is general talk. As The Destroyer, SwiftPushkar, Keshav help me in understanding Hinduism, so I asked them. And once talked about cartoons as well, which was off-topic. What else made you think so, I want to know.
By the way, I'll make sure nothing will be off-topic from my side.
@TheDestroyer Yeah, Wikipedia says this temple also claims to be the spot where Siva rescued Markandeya:
Triprangode Siva Temple is a Hindu temple located at Triprangode, near Tirur, Malappuram district, Kerala. The ancient temple is situated 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) west of Tirunavaya railway station and 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) south of Tirur railway station. It is one of the most important Hindu pilgrimage centres in northern Kerala. Kokila Sandeśa of Uddanta Sanstrikal (15th century) mentions Triprangode among other major destinations in the region. Inscriptions of the Later Chera ruler Goda Ravi Varma (10th century) were discovered from the Triprangode Siva Temple. Later, the region formed a part...
Could I ask the following question: What validity do the avatar series the legend of korra and the last airbender have with hinduism?
Also is there an equivalent of Veggie Tales for Hindiusm?
16:56
@TheDestroyer@KrishnShweta@KeshavSrinivasan@William Hiii ☺
@SwiftPushkar Hi
@William As far as I know, the only connection that Avatar: the Last Airbender has to Hinduism is the concept of avataras or incarnations.
@William The main character in that show is supposed to be an incarnation of some ancient master.
@William Regarding VeggieTales, are you just looking for Hinduism-related kids shows?
@William There's a great kids show called Little Krishna about the childhood of Krishna. Here's the first episode:
17:34
@KeshavSrinivasan thank you for the response. It doesn't seem like lesson plans like I have watched so far.
17:48
@William You're welcome. By the way, out of curiosity what's your background? Are you a Hindu or are you just trying to learn about Hinduism?
@KeshavSrinivasan Just learining. Christian raised in USA
The story has gotten better
@William Oh ok, I'm a Hindu born and raised in the U.S.
@William Another good thing is the animated Ramayana movie here:
@William The first two minutes of the Ramayana movie is just credits and narration, but after that the actual story starts.
@KeshavSrinivasan Just now I watched one show on TV about Adi Shankaracharya.

Q: What exact questions were asked to Shankaracharya by Mandan mishra's wife ubhaya bharti?

user7162When Mandan Mishra was defeated by Shankaracharya, then UbhayaBbharti asked questions about grihastha ashram and about science of sex. Then shankaracharya had to go into body of a king, to be able to answer those questions. So exactly what were those questions asked by Bharti?

@KrishnShweta Oh, what language was the show in?
My doubt is, how could he enter in King's body?
@KeshavSrinivasan Hindi :)
18:03
@KrishnShweta This answer discusses the practice of Parakaya Pravesha or entering someone's body:
1
A: What exactly happens during Parakaya Pravesha?

TezzThe key to every power in Yoga comes from Samyama. If you apply Samyama to other body, then you enter that body. When the mind has attained to that state when it identifies itself with the internal impression of the object, leaving the external, and when, by long practice, that is retained by the...

@KrishnShweta Yeah. that's possible.
@KrishnShweta Ok. He gave you link.
@KeshavSrinivasan I'll take a look. Thanks.
And one more thing, Was that King expired on that time?
@KeshavSrinivasan ok.
@KeshavSrinivasan It is also said that Markandeya sang Chadrasekhara Astakam during that scene.
@KrishnShweta Yes, the king was dead at the time.
@KrishnShweta There is telugu movie on life of Adishankara.
18:06

@KrishnShweta You can watch it. This is good movie with little artistic licence.
Or you can watch 1st Sanskrit film
Adi Shankaracharya is a 1983 Indian film in Sanskrit language directed by G. V. Iyer. The film depicts the life and times of 8th century Hindu philosopher, Adi Shankara, who consolidated the doctrine of Advaita Vedanta (Non-dualism) in Hindu philosophy. It was the first film in India to be made in Sanskrit. At the 31st National Film Awards, it won four awards, including Best Film, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Best Audiography. == Cast and Crew == === Cast === Sarvadaman D. Banerjee as Adi Shankara. Sreenivasa Prabhu as Prajnaana. T.S. Nagabharana as Mrithyu. Bharat Bhuushan ...
@TheDestroyer Thanks for that link. My parents were saying me about this movie. I thought to search it :)
@KrishnShweta I watched it. It was good movie. Nagarjuna comes as Lord Shiva. Lol..
@KrishnShweta Even debate was good.
@TheDestroyer Oh, I've never heard of the Chandrasekhara Astakam.
@KeshavSrinivasan Ohh.. Chandrasekhara is eight slokas sung by Markandeya when yama caught his neck with noose.
18:10
@TheDestroyer OK...
@KeshavSrinivasan After ending Astakam, Shiva Linga which was hugged by Markandeya breaks and Shiva comes out of it hitting with left leg (as Parvati Devi got angry on yama and left portion represents Parvati) at chest of Yama.
@TheDestroyer @KrishnShweta Here's the Sanskrit Adi Shankaracharya movie with English subtitles:
@KeshavSrinivasan cool...
