@SwiftPushkar good info.
@SwiftPushkar Do they teach Upanishads or give summary of Upanishads?

@SwiftPushkar We can give words of Acharya as answers whatever language they are in if they provide English Translation of those words.
@SwiftPushkar Chaganti Koteswara Rao is well know Advaita Acharya in Telugu States.
Sri Chaganti Koteswara Rao is an Indian scholar known for his discourses in Sanathana Dharma. A reader of spiritual pravachanams on various puranams and epics like Srimad Ramayanam, Srimad Bhagavatham, Soundaryalahari, Lalithasahasranama strotram etc., his discourses are widely followed and are telecast over television channels such as Bhakti TV and TTD and is quite popular among the Telugu speaking people all over the world. == References... ==
@SwiftPushkar Many people listen to his Pravachanams. Even i listen to his discourses.

@TheDestroyer - Agree , no objection on that , and accepting his authority , but what i was conveying that , you tube is full of videos and can it be used as a authentic source , when giving , specific answers , can we in general trust you tube as similar to Wikipedia. Even there are objections from "Shree shree Ravishankars " answers and saying on this site. So my point is in that :)
@TheDestroyer - and not personal or prejudicial , or denial of any acharya etc.

5:29 AM
@SwiftPushkar i can say Chaganti is 100% better than Sri Ravi Shankar and he cites only Puranas or authentic scriptures but can't prove this as you don't speak Telugu.

@TheDestroyer- yes agree , that's my
@TheDestroyer - point , what i mean is that , we should give the answer in the language known to all , so that the answer will be known to all , and even to international users or users frm other states etc. And this way noone will raise objection also , i am not promoting or dening any language , since i believe in unity in diversity ,
@TheDestroyer - even i love and respect other languages as my mother t
@TheDestroyer - even i love and respect other languages as my mothertounge , i believe in all :) so pls don't misunderstand , my point is technical ..😊

@SwiftPushkar I think we may not find all required content in only few languages. This is not about language. The exact answer was found from Chaganti's video. We can provide info from other languages also, if we provide English translation.

@TheDestroyer - Thanks , i will add that in answer , 😊👍 , i am actually adding additional sources to all my answers , as to maintain quality and standard , thanks for encouragement ,bro 👍

@SwiftPushkar No need of Thanks :)
@SwiftPushkar Which book is that?

@TheDestroyer - not sure abt. Vishnu purana story , ohh that is shreemad bhagvat purana ,Hard copy , geeta press

@SwiftPushkar ohh. sorry! i thought Vishnu Purana..

@TheDestroyer - that's why , added second source as Bhagvat purana , so that at least one source will be valid

6:00 AM
@SwiftPushkar no. I thought you mentioned Vishnu Purana.. didn't see Bhagavatam..
Anyways, that has more than required sources..

@TheDestroyer - the mention of vishnu purana , is based on blog story , thats why .. its less reliable
@TheDestroyer - Here is cover

6:26 AM

@SwiftPushkar Are you planning to purchase any other books?

@TheDestroyer - Yes , 1) Vishu puran , and some books related to Vedas , Upanishdas etc.small one's Hard copies , cause i have all the e- book versions , but me and dad find it hard to read those on mobile screen , it strains eyes ,so hard copies

@SwiftPushkar ok.

@TheDestroyer - Have you seen my comment on golu dolls , which we were discussing , i found out that , the dolls are available 365 days , on one street in Chennai , but even its expansive to go there and purchase those :) there is hawker street , exclusively for selling of these dolls

@KrishnShweta Hi

6:43 AM
:)

@SwiftPushkar ohh i think i missed it.

@KrishnShweta - I think these exams ask questions related to GK , general knowledge ,abt india and world

yesterday, by SwiftPushkar
@TheDestroyer - i have collected some info abt. Golu dolls , they are available in one of Chennai's Street ,which is famous for hawkers . But its far too expensive to go to chennai frm here to buy that.and they are very costly online , and selection also is very few.
@SwiftPushkar Which street in Chennai?

@KrishnShweta - we also have one such exam , for MH state , its called MPSE , and i think such statelevel exams are there for all states.
@TheDestroyer - Yes that one :)

@SwiftPushkar But there's no address..

6:47 AM
@SwiftPushkar Yeah..... It's quite tough for me because I was never interested in these. I hope I'll do it.

@KrishnShweta - ya they are too tough and heavy compitition also , one has to prepare very hard for even to pass :)
@TheDestroyer - i think its Mylapore , i dont know much , just serched

@SwiftPushkar ok. BTW, Mylapore is famous for Kapaleeswara Temple.
Kapaleeshwarar Temple, Mylapore, Chennai (Tamil:கபாலீஷ்வரர் திருக்கோவில்,மயிலாப்பூர்,சென்னை) is a temple of Shiva located in Mylapore, Chennai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The form of Shiva's consort Parvati worshipped at this temple is called Karpagambal (Tamil):கற்பகாம்பாள்) is from Tamil, ("Goddess of the Wish-Yielding Tree"). The temple was built around the 7th century CE in Dravidian architecture. According to the Puranas, Shakti worshipped Shiva in the form of a peacock, giving the vernacular name Mylai (Mayilāi) to the area that developed around the temple - mayil is Tamil for "peacock...
@SwiftPushkar Do they provide home delivery?

@TheDestroyer - ohh , i havent visited chennai yet , but when will , visit , surely go to the temple :) ya , good temple with lake 😊
@KrishnShweta - yes , some sites do , but selection is few , and more cost also

@SwiftPushkar i studied four years in Chennai. So, i know Chennai and Kanchipuram district well.

@TheDestroyer - ohh grt .hows Chennai life , is city costly , like we do , both pune and mumbai are costly cities , even entire maharastra is more costlier than rest of india.
@TheDestroyer - is it lake or river ?

6:59 AM
@SwiftPushkar Overall cost of living is less. But Hindi speakers may feel little unfriendly due to language barrier. But you like culture and their simplicity. But climate is horrible. I find Banglore and hyderabad good but in culture Chennai takes first place.
@SwiftPushkar lake.
@SwiftPushkar Some of friends say Pune is also good.
What are those Marata Protests happening in MH? I read different views on Quora.

@TheDestroyer - yes pune is cultural capital and grt. For education but , with grt cost , like vegetables , transportation , and tax structure is more costly etc.

@SwiftPushkar But i heard no Political involvement.
@SwiftPushkar Also, Kapu Andolan in Andhra where they burned the train.

@TheDestroyer - yes all maharastrian people like visiting southern states for natural beauty , culture and temples. Its a craze among tourist to visit kerala , and south temples

@SwiftPushkar Kerala is beautiful place.

@TheDestroyer - Ya i visited once with dad and mom but i was very small at that time , so want to visit again some time
@TheDestroyer - but the protest here is silent , no violence took place etc.
@KrishnShweta - i have a very good question abt. indian.female scholar's of ancient india "Called as bhramvadinies" i can give you that questions so that you can post that on main site, if you like to ask..
@TriyugiNarayanMani - are both stotras diff. "Siddha kunjika stotras"

7:22 AM

@KrishnShweta "she(Sita) refused his advances, saying that she was like Ravana's daughter-in-law, as she was on her way to see Nalakuvara, son of Ravana's brother Kubera the god of wealth" To be clear, the "she" is the Apsara Rambha, not Sita.
@KrishnShweta "Kubera was Ravana's brother. @KeshavSrinivasan Say that's true once again... please." Yes, Kubera and Ravana were both sons of the sage Vishravas, although their mothers are different. See my answer here:

A: How did Ravana get the golden city of Lanka?

Keshav SrinivasanThe story of Lanka is described in detail in the Uttara Kanda of the Ramayana. (The links in my answer link to different excerpts from the Uttara Kanda.) There were three Rakshasa (demon) brothers named Sumali, Mali, and Malyavan who obtained a boon of invincibility from Brahma and then told th...

3:08 PM
@TheDestroyer Oh, I didn't know you lived in Chennai for 4 years. So have you visited a lot of temples in Tamil Nadu?

3:40 PM
@Tezz I just found a reference to Matysendranath in the beginning of Abhinavagupta's Tantraloka:

@KeshavSrinivasan I thought she was Sita instead of Apsara. OK, Thank you :)

4:06 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan oh ok..Thank you for that... actually I had also found prediction of Matsendranath in Skandha Purana...
@KeshavSrinivasan you are reading it online...? Or it is hardcopy?...

4:24 PM
@Tezz Online: s3.amazonaws.com/academia.edu.documents/37168726/… It's not a full translation though, it's just excerpts from different parts of the Tantraloka.

@KeshavSrinivasan Oh.. Ok...

@Tezz You can read the full Tantraloka in Sanskrit here: archive.org/details/tantraloka

@KeshavSrinivasan Ok... Thank You for the link...

4:40 PM
Do you people read all scriptures in Sanskrit?

@KrishnShweta I don't know Sanskrit, so I read everything in English. But Tezz knows Sanskrit.

@KeshavSrinivasan OK.

I read both in Sanskrit and English... but also get confused in some hard verses of Sanskrit... so need English translations also...

@KrishnShweta The only languages I know are English, Tamil, and Latin. And that too I can't read Tamil script.

@KeshavSrinivasan OMG!! Latin.

4:43 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan i visited some famous temples in and around Chennai.. kanchi, Mahabaleswar, Vellore.. Arunachalam and our Trichy and Madurai plan didn't work...

@TheDestroyer what is Madurai plan?...

@Tezz we planned to visit Madurai Meenakshi Amma Temple but Madurai is very much far from Chennai.. so we didn't visit.

@TheDestroyer Oh, did you go to all three Vishnu temples in Kanchipuram?
@TheDestroyer I discuss those three temples here:
1
Q: Why does Thirumazhisai Alwar say the Pandava Thoothar statue of Krishna is older than him?

Keshav SrinivasanThe Alwars (also spelled Azhwars) are a group of 12 ancient Vaishnava saints who lived in Tamil Nadu and are famous for their devotional poetry in praise of Vishnu. The collection of their 4000 poems, known as the Naalayira Divya Prabhandam, is considered by many to be the "Dravida Veda", or Sout...

@TheDestroyer oh ok... I thought it was name of some kind of plan....

@KeshavSrinivasan i think i visited. I went twice, once with friends and next time with family. But that was 3 years ago.. I don't remember names now and i was not interested much..
@KeshavSrinivasan Also, i didn't know Ekambeswara Temple is Prithvi Lingam..

4:49 PM
@TheDestroyer Have you been to Marandiswarar in Chennai? What about Thirushulam near the Chennai airport?

@KeshavSrinivasan I have been to Chennai Airport but didn't go to Temple. No. I visited only ISKCON and my friend's Peripa temple.
@KeshavSrinivasan I would wonder why it was named as Tirusulam but now understood it is Shiva's Tirusulam.
@KeshavSrinivasan My friend's family are Vaishnavas, so they would visit more Vishnu temples. Also, i was less interested at that time.
@KeshavSrinivasan BTW, Do you know scriptural evidence of Lizards of Kanchi?

@TheDestroyer what do lizards of Kanchi do...?

@TheDestroyer Yeah, it is named after Shiva's trident. Here's the temple's website: tirusulanathartemple.tnhrce.in/history.html
@TheDestroyer It claims to be the place where Brahma got rid of his sin.

@Tezz There are two lizards statues sculptured (could be Swayambhu too) to roof of temple. One is Gold and other is silver. If we touch them, then there will be no problem if Lizard falls on you.. You don't need to follow Gauli Sastra after their darshana.

@TheDestroyer Oh ok... thanks for information...

4:59 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan Ohh.. never know. Also, i visited some Shiva Temple during Mahasivaratri..

@TheDestroyer what is Gauli Sastra...? Is it same as Sakun Sastra...?

@Tezz Gauli Sastra deals with "Good and bad omens, when a Lizard falls on our body"
@Tezz I think they are located in Perumal koil or Varadaraja Swamy temple.

@TheDestroyer oh ok... so ... Gauli Sastra is a part of Sakun Sastra...

Varadharaja Perumal Temple or Hastagiri or Attiyuran is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in the holy city of Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, India. It is one of the Divya Desams, the 108 temples of Vishnu believed to have been visited by the 12 poet saints, or Alwars. It is located in a suburb of Kanchipuram known as the Vishnu Kanchi that is a home for many famous Vishnu temples. One of the greatest Hindu scholars of Vaishnava VisishtAdvaita philosophy, Ramanuja is believed to have resided in this temple. The temple along with Ekambareswarar Temple and Kamakshi Amman Temple in Kanchipuram...
@Tezz Don't know.

@TheDestroyer Sakun sastra deals with good and bad omen... (in general) ...not particular... so all branch related to omen comes under it...

5:03 PM
@Tezz See that PDF

@TheDestroyer OK...

Hey hiii to all 😊

Hi...

@KeshavSrinivasan Where is story of Varadaraja Swamy temple mentioned in Scriptures?

@Tezz @TheDestroyer @KeshavSrinivasan @KrishnShweta - 🙋👍

5:08 PM
@SwiftPushkar - 🙋👍- 🙋👍- 🙋👍

@SwiftPushkar Namaskaram..
@KrishnShweta I have read mostly scriptures in English.. and rarely saw Sanskrit verses. But i am learning Sanskrit now.. after getting Sufficient knowledge, i will start Upanishads.

@TheDestroyer - yes , namaskar , vannakam :) i think we should have namaskar smile on Android os , wht you people think , just like this one 👏

@TheDestroyer I'm not sure what scripture discusses the story of Varadaraja. But this web page claims that there is a hymn to Varadaraja in the Narada Purana: srimannarayana108.blogspot.com/2014/05/…
@SwiftPushkar Vanakkam

@SwiftPushkar Actually that is Hi5 smiley..
@KeshavSrinivasan Such a famous temple must be mentioned in Puranas.
Ohh.. it is divya desam also. Wow.. i visited one Divya Desam..

@TheDestroyer @KeshavSrinivasan @Tezz - Yes

5:15 PM
🙏 this emoji..ok. I thought some other smiley..
@SwiftPushkar

@KeshavSrinivasan @TheDestroyer @Tezz - who is your people's "kulaswamini" , devi ?

@TheDestroyer Yeah, it is a Divya Desam, and that too it has special importance to the Sri Vaishnava sect. The deity of the Varadaraja Perumal temple told Ramanujacharya the famous Aaru Varthaigal or six instructions: indiadivine.org/content/topic/…

@SwiftPushkar yes it would be nice... only hands doing Namaskaram...

@Tezz @TheDestroyer @KeshavSrinivasan - Namaskara mudra

@SwiftPushkar what is Kulaswamini devi...?

5:17 PM
@TheDestroyer You've also been to Tirupati, that's another Divya Desam.

@KeshavSrinivasan ohh... ok.

@SwiftPushkar My dad's Kuladevata is the Prasanna Venkatachalapathi temple in Gunasilam:
Gunaseelam Vishnu Temple(Abhimana Sthalam) is a Hindu temple dedicated to Vishnu located 20 km (12 mi) from Trichy, in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located on the banks of river Kollidam. A visit temple is believed to be a curative to the mentally challenged people, who are taken to the temple and kept in the temple premises for 48 days. At the end of the 48 days it is believed that their illness is cured by the grace of the presiding deity, Prasanna Venkatachalapathi. The temple has set up a mental health rehabilitation centre that has the official stamp of the Tamil Nadu Government...

@SwiftPushkar Our Kula Devata is Ankamma Tallli, a Village diety, believed to be one of the Sapta Matrika, fierce form of Shakti.
@SwiftPushkar What about yours?

@Tezz - family variant of form of devi , which is our family deity etc. Which is unique to family , i cant explain you that term in exact words here , ..

@Tezz Your Kula Devata is Pasupathinath right?

5:21 PM
@SwiftPushkar My Mom's Kuladevata is the Veeraraghava Perumal Temple in Thiruvallore, which I discuss here:
8
Q: What scriptures describe Vishnu marrying a rebirth of the golden Sita statue?

Keshav SrinivasanI'm currently visiting India, and I just went to my Mom's Kula Devata, the Veeraraghava Perumal Vishnu Temple in Thiruvallore. Many things have happened in this location over the ages, including Vishnu reteaching the Vedas to Brahma after he forgot it due to his fifth head being cut off (which I...

@TheDestroyer @Tezz @KeshavSrinivasan - Renuka devi from "Mahurgad" a town in my state , mother of shree parashurama, our kuladavata , devi , and ganesha from dad's side ,:)

@SwiftPushkar My mom's Kula Devata is Malyadri Swami or Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy at Malakonda, one of Nava Narasimha Kshetras.

@SwiftPushkar my Gotra is Bhardwaja... @TheDestroyer Pashupatinath is Kula devata of our country or Rastra deva... our Kula Devata is somewhat conplex type.. There are 5 deities..... names like... Siddha, Jestha, Kanistha, etc...

Mahur or Mahurgad is a town and religious place in Nanded district of Maharashtra, India. Mahur is the birthplace of Hindu God Dattatreya. Atri Rishi and Sati Anasuya lived here. Bramha, Vishnu and Shiva once got a news about Anasuya that there is no one more pious and pure as her. To test her piousness they arrived under the garb of asking Alm (bhiksha). When she brought it, they asked to serve them while being naked, she realised by her power that she is under a test. She made them a three headed child & fed them. This became Dattatreya, the unified God. There are three mountains in Mahur. The...

@Tezz Finally, who is that complex one? Shiva?

5:23 PM
@Tezz @TheDestroyer - ok :)

@TheDestroyer no, they are divine beings...like some Siddhas...

@SwiftPushkar i know that Anasuya story which is quite famous.

@SwiftPushkar Oh, there's a temple to Renuka on the outskirts of my mom's native village of Poondi, as I discuss here:
0
Q: What scriptures describe Parashurama's mother's head being attached to a low-caste woman's body?

Keshav SrinivasanI'm currently visiting India, and as I was leaving my native village of Poondi (which I discuss in my questions here and here), I passed by a temple which was built at a location visited by the goddess Mariamman. Mariamman is a goddess worshipped primarily in Tami Nadu. Her temples are kept on...

@KeshavSrinivasan @Tezz Is there any way to trace lineage with Gotra?

@KeshavSrinivasan - ohh ok :) there is one temple of shree parashrama in my state also :)

5:28 PM
@SwiftPushkar @TheDestroyer I think there are multiple places that claim to be the birthplace of Dattatreya.

17
Q: Why isn't Parashurama worshipped like the other Vishnu Avatars?

Ankit SharmaVishnu Avatars like Rama and Krishna get worshipped in all main regions of India. But why doesn't Parashurama get worshipped that much? Is there some reason for it? Parashurama is the longest-serving Avatar of Vishnu. He is even said to be living in the mortal world and will train Kalki avatar. S...

@SwiftPushkar

@KeshavSrinivasan - ya one is "Kardalivana"

@KeshavSrinivasan Yeah.. know that..

@TheDestroyer - yes , seen that q. :)

@SwiftPushkar but he is worshiped..

5:31 PM
@TheDestroyer - Dattatrya ? Yes very lot in Maharastra , but i don't know abt other states , or paradhurama? Parashurama is worshiped by few

@TheDestroyer Yes, associated with each Gotra is a set of Pravaras which tells the sequence of rishis you're descended from. Like I'm Vadhula Gotra, and my Gotra Pravaras are "Bhargava, Vaitahavya, Savedasa". So I'm a descendant of the sage Vadhula, who is a descendant of Savedasa, who is a descendant of Vitahavya, who is a descendant of Bhrigu.

@SwiftPushkar No. Parasurama.

@TheDestroyer I discuss Gotra Pravaras here:
1
Q: Why is Vasishta listed as a descendant of Kashyapa's son Avatsara?

Keshav SrinivasanAs I discuss in this question, every Brahmana is a descendant of sages, which is why every Gotra or clan of Brahmins has an associated list of Pravaras, a list of the sages they're descended from. For instance, I am a Brahmin belonging to Vadhula Gotra, and my Pravaras are "Bhargava, Vaitahavya, ...

@KeshavSrinivasan But how to know my lineage.. Is there any scripture that has list of gotras?

@TheDestroyer - he is mostly worshipped in "kokan" region by kokanastha bhramin. But here on Desha or deccan he is not worshiped , even don't have temple's of shree parashurama

5:35 PM
@SwiftPushkar ohh.. ok. Answer that question.. He is worshiped.

@TheDestroyer Yes, the Matsya Purana discusses Gotras. Also many Shrauta Sutras discuss Gotras.
@TheDestroyer What is your Gotra?

@KeshavSrinivasan "Mudurilla"..
@KeshavSrinivasan I read Matsya Purana chapters.. but i couldn't figure it out.

@TheDestroyer The Matsya Purana and Shrauta Sutras only discuss Brahmana gotras. But you're not a Brahmin.

@KeshavSrinivasan ohh.. Scriptures are partial :P

@TheDestroyer Haha, it's just that Gotras and Pravaras are more important to Brahmanas because we have to recite them during Sandhyavandhanam and all that.
@TheDestroyer In any case, assuming you're a Kshatriya, you just need to find out whether Mudurilla gotra belongs to Suryavanshi kings or Chandravanshi kings.

5:40 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan ok.. I never saw my friends doing Sandhyavandanam.. i have 2 close Brahmin friends who were my roommates.

@TheDestroyer That's just another sign that it's the Kali Yuga.
@TheDestroyer Are you sure it's spelled Mudurilla? Nothing seems to come up on Google.

@KeshavSrinivasan Yeah.. it is "Mu du rilla" only

@TheDestroyer @KeshavSrinivasan - Here in Maharastra we have two diff. Variants of bhramunical sect.1 ) Deshastha or from deccan paltu 2) kokanasta or from coastal region , just like , taddakali & vaddakali etc.

@KeshavSrinivasan Yeah.. that's interesting to know whether i belong to Surya Vamsi or chandra Vamsi.. Are warriors Kshatriyas?
I think we belong to Kshatriyas or Vaishyas.. mostly Kshatriays..

@TheDestroyer @KeshavSrinivasan - and funny thing is both are quarrelling on minor issues😂 like Tradiations
* bhraminical (spelling correction)

5:47 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan BTW, Sri M was a "Yadava King" in one of his previous births..
descendant of Krishna..
@KeshavSrinivasan @Tezz @SwiftPushkar Parthasarathy is doing Homam in Pondicherry this month.. BTW, i also visited Pondy.. He said that in his answer
0
A: Sudarshana Homam and its benefits

Parthasarathy Raghavan Sudarshana Homa Relief from unexplainable diseases and illnesses. In two instances this homam is performed-- 1.To take charge of your enemies and to relieve you from unexplainable sufferings and worries. 2. To drive away evil spirits which was kept on individual or his family. Th...

@TheDestroyer Yeah, warriors are Kshatriyas.
@TheDestroyer Have you ever visited the Kumbakonam area? It has tons of cool temples.

@KeshavSrinivasan No. farthest temple i visited from chennai in South direction is tiruvannamalai..
@KeshavSrinivasan ohh.. Pondy is farthest place in south..

@TheDestroyer - ohh , he mentioned in his profile that he dose homa etc. Sudarshan homa etc. , But he also stating that he saw ganesha in flames during Yagna

@TheDestroyer Oh ok. Kumbakonam has two Divyadesams, Upilliappan and Sarangapani.

@KeshavSrinivasan ok. But Kumabakonam has bad meaning in Telugu..
Kumabakonam is Scandal..

5:57 PM
@TheDestroyer Haha

@KeshavSrinivasan that's the reason Kumbakonam bank changed its name to City Union Bank...
This is what a Quora user say..
Kumbha ≈ Pot / Vessel
Kōnam ≈ Angle / Perspective

Kumbhakōnam ≈ The pot (influenced) perspective

The Kumbha may refer to the 'pot of amrut' for which the Devas and Asuras in Hindu mythology fought over.

Since the winning group of the Devas used scandalous tactics to win the pot, the word Kumbhakōnam got associated with the meaning 'scandal'.

@TheDestroyer By the way, even the actual meaning of the town name Kumbakonam is somewhat inappropriate. It refers to a Kumbam or pot which was used to preserve the seeds of all the animals during the Mahapralaya.

@KeshavSrinivasan - thats grt. Concept , just like Gene-bank

@SwiftPushkar Yeah.. He might have really seen Ganesha.. We don't know.. I think he had done Homas with full Bhakti and Nishta..

@SwiftPushkar Haha yeah

6:01 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan Yes. This is good.. but where is that Pot located?

@TheDestroyer - yes , he is of innocent nature :) i agree

@TheDestroyer The pot is currently located in the Kumbeshwarar temple:
Adi Kumbeswarar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the deity Shiva, located in the town of Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu, India. Shiva is worshiped as Adi Kumbeswarar, and is represented by the lingam. His consort Parvati is depicted as Mangalambigai Amman. The presiding deity is revered in the 7th century Tamil Saiva canonical work, the Tevaram, written by Tamil saint poets known as the Nayanmars and classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam. The temple complex covers an area of 30,181 sq ft (2,803.9 m2) and houses four gateway towers known as gopurams. The tallest is the eastern tower, with 11 stories...
@TheDestroyer I've seen the pot, it's right under the Shivalingam.

@SwiftPushkar Yeah..bit reluctant to change.. But innocent
@KeshavSrinivasan wow.. So, like other temples Kumbakonam is not destroyed during Pralaya times?

@TheDestroyer @KeshavSrinivasan - i think he is in BTW 50-60 age group

@SwiftPushkar He is 50.

@TheDestroyer - yes :) ok

@TheDestroyer No, I don't know any story of a temple existing in Kumbakonam in a previous Kalpa. The Kumbam wasn't stored in Kumbakonam during the Pralaya. Rather, after the Pralaya was over, the Kumbam landed in Kumbakonam.
@TheDestroyer It landed in the Mahamaham tank, but it was later moved to the Kumbeshwarar temple.

@KeshavSrinivasan Yeah.. if seeds are present in Kumbha, Pot must not be destroyed.. What does Pot contain now?

@TheDestroyer The Kumbam landed in Kumbakonam after Brahma took out the seeds from the pot and used them to recreate the animals.

@KeshavSrinivasan Animals or all Jivas?
@KeshavSrinivasan So, is it empty now?

@TheDestroyer Just animals, not plants or other living things.

@KeshavSrinivasan - wht abt secure vaults in US where DNA of every spice is preserved , in case of
Apocalypse is it true

@TheDestroyer Yeah, I assume it's empty now. But it would be nice if someone did a DNA test to see if there's any genetic material left in the pot.

@KeshavSrinivasan Yeah.. but Temple authorities don't agree..

@TheDestroyer Yeah, temple authorities probably wouldn't agree. After all, the Kumbam is now serving as the base of the Shivalingam. It hasn't been moved for about 1500 years.

@KeshavSrinivasan Ohh. do we need to lift Shiva Linga to take Kumbham?

@TheDestroyer Yeah, so the priests would probably object to that.

6:18 PM
@TheDestroyer @KeshavSrinivasan - i have heard that the "Abhisheka patra" over shiv Linga is a machine of some kind , mentioned by "Varaha-mihira" its a m/c to calulate time or sonething like that

@SwiftPushkar ohh. which Temple?

@TheDestroyer - not perticular temple , but in all shiva temples , the pot from which water drops constantly fall on linga , that one. Which is kept over linga

@SwiftPushkar ohh. how is that Abhisheka Patra related to time? Never heard this.

@TheDestroyer - just heard that info. Dont know much in detail :)
@KeshavSrinivasan @TheDestroyer - will take your leave , bye to both GN/Good Day , TC , nice to chat with you people , 🌛😊🙋 .See u tomorrow

@TheDestroyer By the way, the most famous Shiva temple in Kumbakonam is obviously Kumbeshwarar, but the Shiva temple that has the most significance for Vaishnavas is the Someshwarar temple:
Someswaran Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, India. == The Stately Temple == Someswar Temple is situated in the southern portion of Sri Sarangapani temple. Legend is that the temple shared a larger space during initial construction, but later Sarangapani Temple adjacent to it occupied more space. == Transport == The nearest railway station is in Kumbakonam, about 2 kilometres from the town. The nearest airport is in Trichy. == Mahasamprokshanam == The Mahasamprokshanam also known as Kumbabishegam of the temple was held on November 2, 2...
@TheDestroyer It has a connection to the Sarangapani temple, which is one of the 108 Divya Desams. Lakshmi incarnated as Komalavalli, daughter of the sage Hema, so Vishnu incarnated as Sarangapani, which means wielder of the Sharanga bow, to marry her. As he waited to meet Komalavalli, Vishnu needed a place to stay, so Somasundari, the Parvati deity of the Someshwarar temple, allowed Vishnu to sleep on the grounds of the Someshwarar temple.
@TheDestroyer After Vishnu woke up, he went to Komalavalli and soon married her. But the Sarangapani temple shows Vishnu in the sleeping posture he had during the previous night. He is sleeping inside a chariot; he came down to Earth from Vaikuntha in a chariot, and then he parked the chariot outside the Someshwarar temple.
@TheDestroyer It's kind of similar to Tirupati; just like Varaha was the original inhabitant of the seven hills but the Adivaraha temple is now so small compared to the Venkateshwara temple, similarly Shiva was in that location first but now the Somewhwarar temple is tiny compared to the Sarangapani temple.
@TheDestroyer By the way, the Sarangapani temple played an important role in the founding of Sri Vaishnavism; see my question here:

Q: What is the secular account of the compilation of the Alwars' poems?

Keshav SrinivasanThe Alwars (also spelled Azhwars) are a group of 12 ancient Vaishnava saints who lived in Tamil Nadu and are famous for their poetry in praise of Vishnu. The 4000 verses of the Alwars were compiled by the Vaishnava Acharya Nathamuni into a book called the Naalayira Divya Prabhandam, which is cons...

@Tezz This translation of the first chapter of the Tantraloka renders the name as Macchanda, not Matsyendranath: tantrikstudies.org/blog/2015/7/31/… I don't know whether this is a case where different Sanskrit manuscripts have differences, or whether all the manuscripts say Macchanda but some translators interpret Macchanda as Matsyendranath.
