2:51 AM
ever watch some ferofluid videos, It is crazy magnetized liquid

Yeah, those are interesting, I couldn't imagine trying to build one though
on magnetism, these dot thingies are neat. who would have though to use them to have a really zen workspace
about 1:38

nice
he is shoveling them on

just jump to 1:38. that's the zen part. the shoveling part is for comedic effect i think

useful and universial

yeah. i thought it was a really interesting idea

3:03 AM
looks like all you need is printer toner and vegetable oil, and some magnets, youtube.com/watch?v=sP0Pf4UvNnA&feature=related

don't forget the plastic/epoxy bases and a 3d printer. most epic office ever
@mateo_salta that's neat, but i meant the magnetic parts to make it dance in interesting ways

yeah, probably some kind of field. I was thinking small scale to start, I think you jumped right to the sculpture

well i start working on the hard parts first usually.

I guess I'm the opposite trying proof of concept first

Your way makes for steady progress. Mine makes for massive progress if you ever cross the hump

3:11 AM
probably comes from the design work

probably. i also try and start at the solution and work backwards instead of starting with parts and moving forwards
i think we approach problems in very different, but equally valid, ways for different reasons

yeah, testing the different parts then bringing them together, I think it inserting how different people approach things
anyways, now for a random question, that I'm collecting data on. how many pillows are on your bed?

one for my head. one for my dog

so 2, but only one for you.

yes. if i didn't have a dog i would only have one

3:15 AM
I have 4

? reasoning ?

not sure what it means yet, but I started asking everyone
once had someone that couldn't count how many they had.

i think 4 is common if two are "appearance" pillows with the fancy ruffles and all then two to make it conform to a normal two person arrangement. i think the "that many" is a desire for a beanbag bed or waterbed without knowing it

yeah, a water bed sure would solve that
so not keeping up appearances, with the two extra?

nope. nobody meaningful to impress. i think it's a spartan/utilitarian thing too. it's what is useful, so it is what is there

3:21 AM
hmm, true

i knew someone that had six pillows. 6 for symmetry, but for varying levels of firmness to accomodate joint/back problems...which i understood

did they use them all at the same time, or switch them out when needed

all six were there all the time, but some were used sometimes to elevate different things to adjust posture
i, on the other hand, can sleep on a wooden floor with a balled up leather jacket for a pillow...so...

leather is nice and smooth
that wouldn't be a bad pillow

yep. the only down-side is your face sticks to it
so it's kind of like peeling off a band-aid in the morning

3:24 AM
lol
Is your ring finger longer than your pointer finger

yes. i also have boss toes...that is index toe is longer than the rest

even the big toe
oh, I guess my other toe is longer than my big toe, never thought about it

knew someone that focused on toes for whatever reason.

hmm
is it morning or night or day, where you are at

my sleep is out of whack. it's mid-day for my sleep, but about midnight

3:38 AM
so we are on the same side of the globe, getting close to 11 over here
it's intresting seeing others that are saying goodnight, when i am on in the morning or day

same time zone give or take an hour. from the name, i'm guessing south america though. different continent

nah, don't let the name fool you

it's fine. it was also the fascination with coffee.
so on the fountain thing, what if different trays were different conductors and you charged them electrically to make the most amazing graphic equalizer ever

I use it as an excuse for bad grammar sometimes. i'm in the us,

odd thought...and me too

3:42 AM
hm, like it would conduct more, and you might be able to color them diffrently, say if it keeps the color, you could mix color toner

I wasn't thinking about color, I was thinking length of the spike/size of the blob of spikes ~= power in that band
so bass is a tray at the bottom and high treble at the top. then the size of the spike formations on each level tells you the power of that band

that would be cool

i think so. it would make an interesting dynamic sculpture that changed according to the music you feed it

just link the music signal to the magnet power, may be able to just use a high powered speaker
since they are magnets

yes, something like that...except that you'ld have to filter signal pre-speaker. it's my understanding smaller speakers doing higher pitches has to do with cone size, not really magnet size
bonus would be if you liked a particular configuration you could just loop that particular set of tones

3:52 AM
yeah, make something that looks cool, then worry about how it sounds later
then try to mix it into some form of music

or that. i have diverse listening habits, so you might have say techno generating massively different forms than opera. you could not have speaker output and just loop a sound-byte you found that works
if people started taking the idea and running with it, you might even find different people writing "transforms" that make different genres look cooler

hmm, make 80's pop look cooler...

you know what i meant

yep, just a bad habit i have

i know. it was funny. just divergent from what i meant
now THAT is an interesting idea for the next lavalamp

3:59 AM
hmm,
cool
ever hear of the Kaye effect

no, that is kind of neat though

well, its been fun, I'm going to sleep

later on

10 hours later…
2:12 PM
@jokerdino - Even got an amen out of a mod on another site...I was doing my "that must have been even more valid than i thought it was" dance

lol I saw that too. I was mostly reading the transcript.
someone being pedantic and we lost a good couple of minutes.

i'll stop burning time now. i just thought it was relatively amusing that a mod showed up and was all thumbs up on the way i was handling it

i was told if someone takes too much offense, he can get suspended too xD
@aking1012 one main reason might have been, people getting annoyed by the flurry of flags

if i had the ability to do that, that last one would have been a close call. chain flagging historical posts is less than constructive

how many flags did you actually get?
i zoned out after three

2:17 PM
many. it was 4 of 6 posts in a row or so with a couple more sprinkled on top...followed by that last historical one
if the user didn't have previous flags, 1:30 ~= 3 validated flags
afaik

hmm good I went to read the transcript to know what the hell was going on.
and yeah one flag is 30 minutes.

i jumped to transcript and say a bunch back to back, so i suspected it was someone with knickers in a twist on swearing. then a couple more tacked on later. then a historical one. it seemed more irritating than it was worth by the end

yeah.
by the time that happens, people are annoyed not by the poster but by the flagger.
brb. time to do some laundry.
