Re: would different holy symbols work on different vampires, I just wanted to mention that in the fairly awesome Mortal Instruments series, a team of vampire hunters do have to rapidly retrofit a cell with Stars of David in order to contain a captive Jewish vampire, so there's precedent in fiction at least.
