@bmike Yep my comment on the post about software updates not needing passwords was a bit premature I guess, I didn't know about that change and can't find it documented anywhere :(

@bmike Was that downloading the Big Sur upgrade or just a point update to a machine already running Big Sur?

@grg I didn’t corner it immediately - - my hunch is it likely happened server side and not even on point so it may be hard to tell if it was based on CDN seeding roll out.

Macs already on Big Sur didn’t prompt for the password like that initially. This was an M1 mini I posted here when I noticed the new behavior.
