When's the last time Apple shipped an iPhone with a modem that's not capable of working on the forest flung networks? I know carriers are eager to ditch their frequency they assign to 3G but unless there's some massive security risk to privacy, I don't see GSM needing to be ditched for technical reasons or some tradeoff. I haven't thought much about it. Where do you presume to have 3G coverage only @JBis
My iPhone 11 Pro was on EDGE just the other week. That's not been killed yet in the USA and devices haven't evolved past this tech: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enhanced_Data_Rates_for_GSM_Evolution

@JBis globally there are still a lot of areas which are only covered by 3G or worse, so I doubt Apple will ditch support (why should they, the chipset supports it anyway)
