If I disclose my affiliation with a product am I allowed to promote it in answers?

4:55 AM
Yes @JBis
Just be sure you’re fair (or overly fair) and provide relevant answers, not canned spam. Even better is to suggest a couple products if there are others - being on topic and clear is always good.

https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/377612/how-do-i-add-folders-to-the-dock-via-terminal How is this person able to add folders to dock "manually"? I dragged, but the apps didn't move to give space to my folder.

@ankii I never use the Dock for anything but AFAIR you need to add folders in the part close to the trash icon

Ah indeed, Downloads already sit there.
Posted a guesswork answer there.

It’s not so much about twiddling with the dock, but that OP doesn’t like the results when they inject data into the structure Apple generates when users change the dock, no @ankii

May I highlight that there are three separate questions in the post (CLI way to add a folder and set its view type to fan), comments above (hide all files together), comments here (put airdrop to dock:apple.stackexchange.com/questions/331329) — ankii 10 mins ago
@bmike I edited the answer and encouraged them to write script for the same. But they are going by some long way by setting whole Desktop hidden, but all this to put Airdrop in Dock, which is not a folder in the first place, but a separate app. To hide all files, they went to SO too despite it being on-topic here.
it has become a mess, the way I see it.

Oh OP deleted the post ↑
Due to some bug, I am able to see it.

It’s not a bug. Welcome to being a privileged user
Yes - it’s a mess. As is this next question

Q: Logic board replacement or repair (for booting issue)?

user318524I have a 2012 MacBook Pro 13 inch non-retina model . The issue was ,from past one year I used to get service battery message but I still kept using without worrying about it. The OS would boot sometimes or else it would not boot at all showing flashing folder with a question mark. Then I upg...

It’s not bad if it gets edited into a really focused “off site research / opinion” question. But then it sprinkles in - is this worth it / money / subjective. And then it adds a sprinkle of “let’s try and engineer a better repair” so it’s really three questions as I see it / all mixed into “subject X - let’s discuss”

I would edit it, but only after OP does, to avoid hijacking their chance to use Review queue.

Let’s try to help if they hop in here to chat. Maybe they just want an answer that says - you need to get a new battery and a new logic board and then pay a professional to offer a warranty on the work and then decide if you can afford that service.

They removed some paras in the end.

How “the internet” is going to diagnose their specific mac better than a tech they have taken it to always boggles my mind. It’s like they don’t trust the person they can talk to and want a second opinion - but maybe that’s not the case here.

But I feel that, sometimes, very few times, Apple Support can offer bad solutions like full mother board replacement despite having some other solutions.

5:35 PM
Why is a fixed price repair a bad solution @ankii

6:26 PM
@bmike I am saying that humans make mistakes.

6:56 PM
Well of course - it’s hard to make a mistake in Apple’s repair process since there are several people that work on each repair - it really takes a concerted mess up one repair and even then, there are systems to detect / correct / adjust when that happens.
The real problem is everyone might want to spend thousands of hours of training to eek out a $12 repair - the vast majority of repairs are most efficiently done by component swap which is why Apple has been moving that direction for decades. Even the 2012 mac in question here is designed for easy sub module isolation and swap.
Basically, it comes down to what your expectation are of the person offering you service - you don’t generally interview the technician doing the repairs - that was only possible back in the initial days of the Genius Bar if you went in to a store.
Anyhow - perhaps we’re beating a dead horse - not even talking about the same thing at this point
