@daviesgeek Um, for something that's "not an option," it's been serving me well since version 1.0 in Panther. Way better than Internet Explorer for Mac, which is what came before it.
@DanielLawson Yes, I know but 1) You are not a web developer and 2) You have your own computer. I don't have my own, so all my bookmarks, history, autocompletion, etc. need to be stored somewhere where I can access them online and be able to move them easily from computer to computer.
That's been a challenge for me and all my data. I have to be able to move my data easily from computer to computer. Dropbox has been a lifesaver for that...
@daviesgeek Dropbox rocks indeed. For the past year, I have had my own computer, and it's awesome, but for much of the time since Safari's release, I have and frequently still do have to work on computers that are not mine. It's only in the past year that browser bookmarks, history, autocompletion, etc. have been features I've started to rely upon, and when I have to use Internet Explorer on the machine in my classroom or Firefox on the machine in my office, the system breaks.
@daviesgeek I'm old. I've had lots of different jobs in life. Developing web sites for various churches and organizations was something I did many years ago. I (thankfully) don't think any of them are still on the web in their current form.
If you've got something that works for you, awesome. I'm just saying you called it "not an option." It was way better than the options that came before it.
If you think IE for Windows is bad, try IE for Mac. :-/
Well, it does get around the malware problem.
But as far as usability goes, Safari was like a glass of ice water in the middle of the desert.
Now I fire up Chrome whenever I need Flash, but it's Safari the rest of the time.
I'm annoyed at MS for making IE 6 as yucky for web developers as they did, but almost as annoyed that it's impossible to test for without keeping an XP VM around.
I understand that they want people to stop supporting it, but for some sites that isn't an option. The least they could do is make it as easy as possible for us to make things work.
That said, I'm very happy with the direction of IE9 and 10. They're really starting to get it with those releases.
@NathanGreenstein Can you walk me through setting up an action for ControlPlane? I don't really get it and the developer site isn't much help either...
@NathanGreenstein Never mind...read help pages do actually help! =D
Okay, now I do have a question. I have two contexts set up: Home and Secondary Display connected. When I leave my house, I want the firewall to turn on. However, the way it is currently set up, when I connect a monitor, the firewall turns on. How do I change that action?
Really? What version of DockSpaces? It works great for me on 10.7.4 with DockSpaces 4.06. Also where did you download it from? The developer's website or MacUpdate — daviesgeek1 min ago
@daviesgeek Okay, I've used the app now :) I think you'll want to select your Firewall action from the list in the Actions tab and change it's Context to 'Home' and 'On departure'.
Btw, I ended up rolling my own solution to that. I wish DockSpaces was scriptable...
