Community should only bump questions if the asking user still comes around.
@JasonSalaz That's my personal favorite too
@KyleCronin What buttons are you talking about?
one of these things is not like the other...
What??
/Me is confused
There is a Windows Phone ad. On an Apple website.
00:39
@JasonSalaz Oh!!!! That's what you are talking about. Yeah...that is really out of place.
01:16
@JasonSalaz Did I hide important information in the subject? I try not to. Which one?

4 hours later…
05:18
@Daniel Enabling/Disabling MouseKeys from Command Line or AppleScript. Only in the subject do you actually actually say those two things. You go right on explaining in the question.
I actually answered it with a screenshot of the keyboard shortcut checkbox, then deleted it when I realized it.
05:44
@JasonSalaz it drives me nuts when people do that in questions, but in this case my second sentence of the text is "Is there a way to run an AppleScript or terminal command that quickly turns on or off the 'mouse keys' feature under the Universal Access tab?"
06:09
@Daniel Is there really? Well, shame on me for just not reading then. Maybe I had blinders on because I thought you just overlooked the simple method.
Might I ask why you need such an alternative method?

Pretty sure my Air has an eject key, as I tested
shift-ctrl-eject on it last night.
And it's one of the new shape ones
@KyleCronin I never see these things as they are blocked by AdBlock extension: safariadblock.com
@KyleCronin Is there really a need for a Windows Phone Q&A site? Why not a Microsoft one instead, then the zune guys have somewhere to weep...

@JasonSalaz For a few projects that, unfortunately, looks like they won't work. I'm really trying to be able to programmatically simulate a mouse click. UI scripting can click an element, but can't access the current location of the mouse. Someone wrote a utility that does that, but it doesn't work under SL or Lion. I hoped that if MouseKeys were on, I could send keystrokes and they would move/click the mouse. But that doesn't work. Sending "i" types an i even with MouseKeys on.
Darn, missed it...
Missed it?
you removed an entry
sadly you replaced it before I commented
Oh, I was partway through typing, reached for the apostrophe and hit enter
The entry was the first part of the post I just posted.

@stuffe I used to use Airlock from The M.H.A. but it was broken by changes to the Bluetooth stack. Now that Rohos offers the phone option, I may check it out.
I tried the demo on a USB stick with a serial number (that is actually a read only dongle for a software product). It worked first time, and hasn't since I re-inserted it :/
16:32
'lo all! @NathanGreenstein, you around?
Evenin'
Afternoon, technically. Here at least
i've got 27 minutes left of morning! i will savor them.
@AbbyTMiller I was just getting up; I should be back in ~15 minutes
See you then?
(Sorry for my bad timing)
haha, sure, nothing urgent
HOW THE F DO I ADD DESKTOPS YOU GUYS
where did spaces go :( :(
Open Mission Control. Hit the option key, hit the "plus" gadget at the top.
16:37
Run Expose, look at the top to see the list of spaces, hover your mouse top right ish, see the + sign appear
(I assume your question applied to Lion)
Mission Control, no longer Expose
ugh you guys that was way harder than it needed to be
@stuffe is correct though in that "hovering near the top" also works.
Yours is better though, as it makes the remove space controls appear too.
it's one of those things where it makes perfect sense in retrospect, but it's impossible to find until you know where it is
spaces made so much more sense to me
16:39
I'm not sure but I think Apple has a three minute video about using Mission Control posted to their Lion tutorial site.
We shan't make you post a retrospective question...
weeps reminiscently about snow leopard
Once you get the hang of MC, it's not bad. Just different.
fear the change! ;)
Embrace the change! ;)
16:41
Embrace the fear?
If you're scared, I'll embrace you?
10.8, 100+ New Features, including iHug 1.0 which runs every time you try to use a 10.7 feature that's changed...

An anthropomorphic "Steve" emerges from the (optional) Thunderbolt hub to assure you that everything is going to be alright.
Holographic iSteve, available when Thunderbolt goes fibre optic...
Holographic hugs suck.

Tactile feedback in V2
Planned obsolescence.
Or there'd be no reason to upgrade!
"Say, did you get iSteve 3? He pat's your head AND rubs your stomach!"
But not as disturbing as an Internet Kiss.
Oooh, just found a bug
on SE
@AbbyTMiller Back, what's up?
Okay, off to lunch now that I've left you with that disturbing thought.
Laters folks.
Bye :)

Later
just wondering (as a follow-up to your photo editors blog post) if you have any experience with Acorn, vs Pixelmator @NathanGreenstein
i just got nagged to buy a license for Acorn and i'm wondering if i should switch
o great photo editor king
Briefly--I have Acorn and like it better for some stuff, but Pixelmator's content aware retouching FTW.
I've never used Acorn, I'm afraid. I didn't test it because it was a lot pricier than Pixelmator and GIMP, a little outside my budget.
(Sorry to jump to the front of the line Nathan, but I'm out the door.)
yeah, i had a free trial that they i guess discontinued or buried, but my freeloadin' days are over
16:49
I'd love to get it some time in the future, and if I do i'll update the blog post
It looks like a promising contender, especially for designers
yeah, i have liked it so far
i don't $50 like it though :P
Haha, yeah
For most people, Photoshop's nowhere near worth the price
oh nowhere near it
i think pixelmator's the perfect solution for most people
Definitely. And it really is a beautiful app
I had a V1 license (well, have), but never liked it as much as P, although I hear the new version is much better arstechnica.com/apple/reviews/2011/10/…
P3 of the link I sent is a comparison page, includes PS Elements which is likely more in the same ballpark re competition
16:56
i'm very prejudiced against photoshop elements because it always made the machine i ran it on move soooooooo sloooooooooowly
Elements was another that I wanted to include
But, $100
Hopefully, we'll soon be a big enough blog that we can request free copies of apps :)
@AbbyTMiller Mac or PC?
@NathanGreenstein Speaking of the blog, how do I get involved, and can I cross post something that I might like on my personal blog on Ask Different if it's suitable?
@NathanGreenstein MBP
@stuffe Ping us in the Blog chat room to get involved. You can definitely cross post something.
Awesome to hear that you're interested!
The more community involvement, the better. Exponentially.
No fun :(
It made my parents' PC slow too
yeah it was very frustrating
this was my mid-'09 MBP, i'm sure it would be better on a newer machine, but still
17:02
They've also got a Mac App Store version, and I assume Apple wouldn't have approved it if it did anything too bad.
aright, new question. favorite FTP client?
I use ForkLift, which is a Finder replacement that has nice FTP stuff built in.
For FTP only, I recommend Transmit
oo, i think i had a license for transmit at some point in my life
gotta find it
Panic's stuff is always great
+1 transmit
17:13
just kidding, it was transmission for BT that i had (and still have)
I KNOW YOU ALL WERE WONDERING
@AbbyTMiller Also a nice app :)
(Had me looking for an album called Transmission by BT for a minute...)
Gotta go, laters.
17:32
+1 Transmit also. (@ the local, bloody mary, "competition chili", iPad. Life is good).

Q: Image Uploading to Web Service from iOS

stuffeI often want to make a picture available on the internet, without wanting it as part of my Twitter stream or Facebook account etc. For example, posting a screenshot to a thread on here. I'm happy for the pic to be public, but don't necessarily want it to be associated to me if people stumble ac...

@stuffe I'm not using iOS lately, but I assume the answer isn't Safari? Can you not insert photos in a post directly through the site in the iOS interface the same way you can through the desktop version of the site?
19:56
I think that was a bad choice of example. Say on another forum without image upload (or one with a limit where all pics are linked to you) would be better, I basically want to anonymously throw an image up and abandon it, not on my account, not in my name, but uploaded, reduced to a max size for preference, and in the minimum of steps to just give me the URL back asap
