12:03 AM
Hey, Coda updated yesterday.
They left Spelling Correction on in the Code Editor? yikes!

12:49 AM
Hmm, not on mine.
oh, but I've got old 1.7.3
does it underline everything?

1:12 AM
Wouldn't know, haven't been using coda lately
I would be willing to bet it doesn't underline things, but the iOS style pop-up spelling suggestions come up.
And uhh, in code? yeah...
And CoverScout is totally broken under Lion. I imagine Song Genie is too I just haven't tried using it yet.

Nice to see you in chat, @AbbyTMiller
Should I say good morning? What timezone are you in?

I'm on New York time

Good morning then.

so I'm getting in a few title edits for the next hour or so before we head to lunch :)
Back at you - I think? Where are you?

Seattle

excellent. my sister lives out there

2:54 PM
Nice
Today: Light wind, 60 degrees, cloudy.
Well, better than stifling heat (imo)

yeah, my sister likes to call and gloat about the weather when she sees we have a heat wave
or a blizzard
or anything, really

Haha, Seattle is moderate if it's anything.
A nice squishy climate.

"squishy" is a new climate-related adjective for me, I have to say

I probably just made it up :P
ah, got to go. see you later

have a nice day!

3:22 PM
Hi everyone!

We over at UX.SE are trying to attract more users to the chat part of our site. It seems like you all have a lot of activity in here. Any tips or tricks on how to make it more active?
We have a somewhat large user base
it just seems like no one uses chat

if you want active chat, you should check out English.SE's chat
we're a cemetery compared to them!

4:05 PM
The Bridge is usually pretty active too. =)

4:28 PM
@Nathan Rub it in why don't you :P. Stupid 90° Colorado weather :/.
English is a ridiculously active community. I constantly see ads for their questions.
I don't think I've ever known so many people to have that level of interest in linguistics.
For a language that is already their primary language, that is.

5:10 PM
@MattRockwell What is UX.se?
@AbbyTMillerΨ Well - they have a lot more dick jokes that the moderators are hesitant to kill.

@bmike that's extremely true
it gets ridiculous up in there

I've aired my opinion on english meta a few times - not sure they agree with my opinion.

@bmike user experience. ux.stackexchange.com

@bmike they seem to be a feisty lot in general, even on meta posts and in comments and things on regular questions

I love feisty almost as much as a bit of random hilarity. I try to temper it since so much context is lost on-line, but I'll certainly stir the pot in as polite a manner I can from time to time.
@VxJasonxV Got it (and thanks). user experience seems almost as treacherous for attracting on-topic questions as english for linguiphiles and entomologists
As for on - topic - has anyone heard of any Lion disasters?
It's been remarkably tame a release from where I stand.

5:17 PM
my failing keyboard shortcuts are beginning to get on my nerves.
But I Certainly don't have horror stories yet.
Also, Chrome implemented two-finger swipe for back/forward history navigation.
But now I can't scroll horizontally -_-

Anecdotal evidence I've seen is macs with bad ram are the ones that get the majority of the bad installs. (of course everyone and their brother that found out their HDD is failing is really bummed and ready to lynch Lion - but that's the price of any reinstall - when you re-write the boot routines, they better get stored and linked perfectly)
@VxJasonxV Ugh - have you had Safari bite you for filling a form then two finger swipe horizontally?
It usually nukes the text you have entered in a input window, then freezes a bit, then asks if you meant to leave that page that you left irreversibly already - and ignores your answer - text is gone and sometimes that page must be totally reloaded to work again.

@bmike I haven't touched Safari in a very very long time.

@VxJasonxV Excellent. I know many that swear by FF and also Chrome (more so than FF lately) - they never seemed worth it for me. I love that I can uninstall flash - i only launch chrome to be my flash ride on occasion I need it.
(they being those browsers for full time use)

I use Chrome's click to play media thing, and besides one exception (pdf), I like it much more than noscript or similar media blocking things.

@VxJasonxV How does the click work? I've not seen it in action - is it something that disables auto-play? (like click to flash did on safari a while back)

5:28 PM
Need to think of a site I still block.
That's how

@VxJasonxV Oh wow - i Like!

It's in the preferences.

I'll keep that in mind if I ever use Chrome more than when I really want things to play.

Preferences -> Under the Hood, click the "Content Settings" button. Under the "Plug-ins" section, choose 'Click to Play'

The extensions (greasemonkey) in chrome are really powerful and an area where safari is less capable.

@MattRockwell actually, we've struggled with this as well
we even threw together an ad to draw peoples attention to the chat room
Jul 19 at 20:18, by Nathan
Just threw together a community promo add to plug the chat room.

@MattRockwell Unfortunately, this is the post-Lion bump. Our chat room is not terribly active in the grand scheme of things. Doubly unfortunately, what event can draw UX'ers in?

looks like we're not the only ones
Android hasn't had anyone post in their chat for 45 days

 Android Enthusiasts

Welcome to the main chat room for android.stackexchange.com! H...
and they're a very well-trafficked site
I am surprised at how stable the traffic is post-Lion bump
I thought it would just spike for two or three days and go back down
but it's remained above 12.5k for the last 9 days

It was the ad that made me decide to jump in

@zevlag well then, welcome to the Ask Different Chat!
anything you want to talk about?

I have a question about deleting tags, as in, can it be done? not just removing them from a question.

8:05 PM
I think so, let me just double check
there's a moderator function to merge tags
that effectively destroys the old tag
I'm not sure what would happen if I didn't provide a tag to merge into

some sort of metaphysical implosion, i imagine :)

nod that'd work, but far above my measly 948 rep

I'm going to test it out, hang on for a bit

I created the server tag, when I should have used osx-server, and looking at apple.stackexchange.com/tags?tab=new I see many others that could be cleaned up

ah, no problem
just collect a list of tags you think should be cleaned up/merged and post it on meta.apple.stackexchange.com and tag it "retagging"
oh, and tags that aren't on any questions (like the "server" tag) automatically disappear daily
so you don't need to worry about those

8:11 PM
Oh do they?
that's nice

yeah, it's a batch process that runs once a day
and it turns out I can't merge a tag into nothingness
MergeTags(, blahblah) encountered the following exception:
either master or remove tag is blank; can't proceed

Well, I retag what I can, and I'll post a retagging request when I find some that could be merged

sounds good, we appreciate your help
also, feel free to suggest edits to the tag wikis
just keep this in mind:
0
Q: Tag wikis should not contain "Questions about"

Kyle CroninA tag, by definition, is for questions about its stated topic. Repeating "questions about" or variants thereof is redundant and looks bad.
